bareMinerals - Bare Escentuals

This is the first make up that
This is the first make up that I have been able to wear in 25 years. I actually think the rosacea is even better. But most important, it doesn't make me want to tear my skin off within minutes of putting it on.

Mineral Make-up
Although the coverage & application was pretty good, I found upon the first application, the product made my face itch, I thought it was because I hadn't worn make-up in so long, I just wasn't used to it. I used it daily for about 3 weeks, my skin became progressively drier, and then my Rosacea started flaring up. I was getting dry patches, redness, tightness & break outs again. The rosacea had been under control before I started using Bare Minerals. Now I'm fighting to get it back under control again & searching for another make-up, considering Belle Saison

Bare Escentuals products
I've been using Bare Escentuals for 7 months and I'm pleased with it overall. If not applied properly, the foundation gives a mask like appearance. Less is definitely more. It is the first makeup, however, that does not make my face break out. I haven't read many comments from people who had regular acne and oiliness from adolescence on and then developed rosacea. I struggle with both and it has been so hard finding products that work. I would like to try a liquid foundation in the fall, but for people with oily skin in the t-zone all year, loose powder foundation is wonderful. It does provide great coverage and you can reapply it (after blotting) without feeling like you've got an extra layer of gunk on. Since I also have ocular rosacea, Bare Escentuals are the ONLY products I use on my eyes. Everything else I've tried irritates my eyelids within 24 hours.

Bare Escentuals
I tried bare minerals a couple of years ago. I eventually gave the make up to a friend who didn't have skin problems and she liked it but not enough to keep herself in supply. I've always had sensitive skin but during and after my last two pregnancies I developed some kind of rash on my chin and then it eventually spread all the way around my mouth. It was mostly patches of dry skin that would stay red. Sometimes it would itch and other times it didn't. It was very easity irritated however and it was starting to effect my self-esteem. I finally decided to consult a doctor about it. First the doctor said it was eczema but after a steroid cream that was prescribed worsened my condition the doctor then decided that I had rosacea and prescribed metrogel, an anti-inflamatory topical gel. The metrogel did improve the rashe's appearance and eventually with continued use the itchy, burning, dry patches of skin dissepated. Now, this was 6 years ago that I first experienced this rash and I have not had a reoccurrance since. I've done alot of research on the internet about eczema, rosacea and psoriasis. The doctor insists that since the metrogel worked that I definitely have rosacea. Mind you this doctor is not a dermatologist so I am not convinced that I had either eczema or rosacea. I do however still have sensitive skin. Through my research, I found that cetaphil facial cleanser came highly recommended for problem skin. I tried it and it works wonderfully for me. I use the bar not the liquid cleanser. It has always been trial and error for me concerning make up and skin care products. I started using Principal Secret skin care products and they do not irritate my skin. They work wonderfully, I am very impressed. When I saw an infomercial for bare escentuals, I thought it was the answer to my search for a make up that would perform well and not irritate my skin. I eagerly ordered my starter kit and couldn't wait to try it. After one day of wearing it my skin was very irritated. I couldn't understand why this was happening. I'd seen testimonials on the infomercial about people with rosacea having a positive experience with the make up. I discontinued using it for a couple of days until my skin felt better. I tried it again, but at the end of the day my skin was screaming to be relieved from this make up. I also noticed that as the day wore on the make up settled in fine lines and my pores making them really noticeable. I was so disappointed and I felt like the company selling this make up was being dishonest with its customers. I did a little more research on the internet about this make up to see if any other women had experienced the problems I had. What I found was that this make up, like many other mineral and light relfecting make ups contain the mineral mica. Mica is a number one irritant for sensitive skin and rosacea. I was shocked, why would this company make such claims about how their make up was so good for any skin type. Were the people on their infomercials claiming they had rosacea and that the make up was like a miracle for them really actors? Needless to say, I am left still wondering if any other women have had similar problems with this make up and were as disappointed as I was. I did write to the owner of the company explaining what happened to me, but I never received a response from her. I still see her all time on QVC promoting her mineral make ups and feel sorry for all those hopefuls out there that buy it believing the "miracle makeup" will live up to its advertising.

Disappointing blotchy coverage
A year ago I travelled out of town to Denver where they have a retail outlet. Having seen the commercials and excitedly hoping THIS might be the coverage I needed, I went to the store and spent $175 on various powders and brushes. Despite a salesperson saying they were matching to my skintone, I applied it the next morning and could see the color was a huge mistake (too dark). I returned to the store and the manager finally agreed to exchange it for a lighter tone (they didn't have "Light" color in stock---no good reason to sell a client the wrong product). Travelled home, tried it again, and saw it still didn't look right --- too blotchy, possibly too dark, and certainly not the rosacea coverage I expected on the various patches and areas showing veining. Did nothing with it for a year. Returned to Denver on business a year later and, having already spent so much, went back to the store and asked for an even lighter foundation color. Complained about lack of coverage, so they sold me additional product ("multi-tasking" powder and a different type of brush) to brush on as a concealer. Disappointing. Doesn't cover well, not even when applying with a wet sponge one or more times. Overall, it has a drying effect, doesn't give that "perfect" coverage effect, seems to make lines and poress more visible, makes the face look "blotchy" and just generally is a total waste of the $250 I spent.

Disappointed
I too bought the Bare Minerals makeup thinking that I was doing something good and healthy for my skin. What I experienced was major breakouts all over my face. I've never had an acne problem, however, I do have sensitive skin and also suffer from eczema flare ups. After wearing the makeup I noticed little bumps all over my face and patches of eczema started to appear as well. There is definitely something in the ingredients that i'm allergic to. At first I thought it could be my skin care regimen. So, I switched my cleanser brand and when that didn't work I stopped using the Bare Minerals makeup for a week and my face totally calmed down. It's still got a ways to go before it's back to what it was prior to usuing BM. I would not recommend this line to anyone with sensitive skin.

Far from perfect.
Given my current skin condition (rosacea and seb derm) and my preferences for foundation coverage, this is the best I've found, though it is far from perfect. With some practice, one can apply it as lightly or heavily as one likes, and it covers redness fairly well without having to be heavily applied. And from a distance it looks great. However, whenever I look up close, my skin looks powdery, even with the lightest application. And if you have any dry skin or fine wrinkles, it can make those look a little crepey. The only way to solve this is to pat the face with water after application, and even that doesn't produce ideal results. Maybe I'm just picky, though, as I want my skin to look great but like there's nothing on it.

Allergic Reaction
I have been using this makeup for approximately 9 months. At first I thought it was great - I have hereditary dark circles under my eyes and the makeup did a terrific job of covering these. Although the look was powdery - I loved the coverage it provided. As time went on I started to notice red patches on my face that were also dry and scaly. I thought this was due to the winter months and increased my moisturizer use to incude emu oil and Vitamin E oil. The patches remained. I noticed that I began to have bumps on my face around my lip line area. At first I thought this was dry skin and when washing my face one night I scrubbed this area in an effort to remove the dry skin. The next morning I awoke to a large amount of tiny bumps all around my mouth and some on my the side of my face. My doctor took one look, asked me if I used Bare Minerals and told me to immediately STOP! She had already had one patient with the same allergic reaction to the makeup after months of use. She gave me some steroid cream to clear up the bumps and I bought all hypoallergic makeup, cleansers and moisturizers (the latter by Neutrogena). $200 later - Dr.'s Appnt., new makeup, new cleansers, steroid cream - - - I can safely say that I would never recommend this makeup to anyone with sensitive skin. As I look back I realize that my skin has been growing progressively dryer with an increasing amount of red scaly patches of dry skin. YUCK! I am returning the makeup along with an account of my disappointing (and expensive!) experience - I hope to get a response - but won't hold my breath. What are good cleansers, makeup, and anti-aging products for sensitive skin? HELP!

I am highly unsatisfied!!!!
I was so relieved to hear that I am not alone! I started using this makeup and was so excited at first! The 2nd time I wore it, I my face was itching like crazy! the 3rd time I wore it, right above my eyebrow began to form a huge welp!!! I was having an adverse reaction to this makeup. Afterwards my skin went into hiatis. I now have gone from very oily to extremely dry with red scaly patches on under my eyes and the sides of my nose. My pores look huge there and inflammed. And to make matters worse, I am seeing creped taughtish skin under my eyes along with a bumpy texture!!! It seemed to happen overnight. I am devasted, and don't know if it will be permant. To top that off, the makeup sucks! I was a makeup artist for years, and had hope that this would be a great simple quick fix to the same old lengthy applications. This makeup is cakey and settles in pores and when mixed with your natural oils turns to MUD! So much for natural minerals...PLEASE, IF ANYONE HAD EXPERINCED THE UNDER EYE CREPED SKIN AND RED BUMPS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR STORY IS AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING ABOUT IT! I HAVE JUST TURNED 31 JAN 2006 AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT SOMEONE CAN GO FROM HAVEING TOTALLY NORMAL SKIN TO REDNESS AND WRINKLES OVERNIGHT! HELP!!! P.S. I HAVE NEVER HAD ROSACEA!!! NOT SURE WHAT TO THINK. IT HAS TO BE BARE MINERALS. Note: i read another post about bumps around mouth, but i haven't had that problem, just eye/nose area.

Bare Escentuals Works For Me
I have been using Base Escentuals for the past seven months. While I do agree it can be drying to the skin I am over all pleased with the product. I have never been a big make up person so I only use the the multi tasking on a daily bases and that seems to do the trick for me. It does a good job evening out my skin tone and covering up bumps. The trick is using the proper brush for the task you are trying to accomplish. If you normally don't wear foundation I would reccomend saving your money and skipping the foundations and Mineral Veil. I think if you don't normally wear foundation it can look fake if you are not used to it.

in 2 weeks this RUINED my skin
i'm so grateful to have read these posts about bare minerals. i bought a bunch of products from qvc, thinking i was doing something good for my face because it was gentle. the first few days i used it, i did get complements on my skin and that i looked pretty. the makeup does cover redness very well. in a few days i felt my face was dry and tight. then i thought i was getting an acne breakout because i had pms. trying to cover the marks, i used more product, which made the problem much, much worse. i now have bumps everywhere. my skin has red itchy patches and is so uncomfortable. i have an appt. with the derm. on monday morning -- now i know this makeup is to blame. my skin was looking the best it had in a long time and now i have to start all over. please, please don't believe the lies on the infomercial if you have sensitive skin.

Bismuth Oxychloride
I too tried Bare Essentials foundation powder. About 10 minutes after putting it on, I could feel my face turning red. I have had this happen with other mineral foundations also so I did a little research to see what was the common ingredient in the makeups I tried. I discovered the "trigger" is Bismuth Oxychloride. Stay away from it and be careful. Many many of the so called pure mineral makeups list Bismuth Oxychloride right at the top of their list.

Major Allergic Reaction
I wanted to try the product because after having 3 kids my face was over sensitive. I got the product and it covered really well. However, after the 3rd time of applying it, I broke out in hives all over my body and ending up in the hospital with a severe allergic reaction. I didn't put the two together right away. After the doctor asking me if I had tried anything new, been around anything new and so on, I couldn't think of anything. So I was prescribed meds for the week. I don't take meds usually. I go the natural route, however, my throat began to swell shut and it was necessary. After about a week of being on the meds and feeling better, I needed to take my kids out and do some running around, I then applied the bare minerals, and within a couple of minutes, I broke out in itchy hives again. It was then I realized that it was the bare minerals that was causing this horrible allergic reaction. I have contacted the company and hope that they will refund my money, take the product back and stop all future shipments. I guess I will just have to see.

allergic to bare minerals
I have never been allergic to any type of makeup until I started using bare minerals. I recently went on a trip to Minnesota to visit a friend and used hers. I loved it so I decided to buy some myself. I spend $150 on bare minerals products. After returning to Arkansas a week later I started noticing red bite-like bumps slowly appearing on my face. Then my left eye lid became red and swollen. I finally realized it was from the makeup when the bumps became worse. I quit using the makeup about 2 weeks ago and my skin is finally back to normal. There is definitely something in the makeup that causes some type of allergic reaction to some people, and I have never had allergic reactions to makeup or even sensative skin for that matter. My face has always been clear and healthy.

Not so wonderful
I have dry, sometimes sensitive skin. I have developed what I believe to be eczema in the past, but my cheeks are always dry, irritated, and pink and I have begun to suspect I have rosacea. This product didn't give me the horrible reactions some women described, but it did leave my face feeling absolutely parched. Not to mention a little irritated because of brushing all that powder over my face over and over. After applying the powders, I used a moisturizing toner spray (also soothing) which usually works whenever my face starts to feel dry and/or irritated. Nothing doing! Within 5 minutes, my face felt dry all over again. Also, the inital look was beautiful, but within about half an hour the makeup seemed to settle into my pores and fine lines. I'm 25 and have always had barely noticeable pores, but this powder seemed to magnify all my imperfections.
I recommend, if this powder works for you, getting a higher-quality brush. I never used the brush they sent because it didn't feel soft at all. I found out later that their brushes don't have a very good reputation and in fact there are often problems with the bristles falling out. I much prefer a natural-hair brush that is soft and gentle.

Used to have great skin...
I am so glad to have found this info. I am only 32 and used to have great skin (about 9 months ago). That is until I started using Bare Minerals. At first, like many of you, I LOVED the product. I thought it was easy to apply, and it looked pretty natural. Mysteriously now about three weeks ago, I've been waking up with red spots on my cheekbones and severely dry skin. I've never had sensitive skin or even the slightly dryness, now I itch and when I do put make up on, it looks terrible. I couldn't figure out the cause, then I did some research and I see that I'm not alone. As of today, I will never put this stuff on my face again!

Stay Away if you have Rosacea!
I bought Bare Minerals, and I loved it -- at first. But, after a few weeks of use, I started noticing incrased redness in my face. I am extremely pale, and the pinkish undertone of the fondation that matched my skin just made my red skin look weirdly pink and shiney. I talked to someone at Sephora and was told that the odd color was because I wasn't using the mineral veil, which is supposed to create a matte finish. So, I bought that, and after 2 days the monthes of work (and avoidance of all of those wonderful foods I love -- spicey foods, hot coffee, red wine) to my rosacea under control was ruined. My face looked worse than it had in years. Why? Because the MINERAL VEIL CONTAINS CORNSTARCH!! A major "trigger."
Watch out for cornstarch. It is common in mineral makeups and in powders that are "talc free." They sell it as if avoiding the talc will be better for you skin. It's not!
Also, if you want a good quick reference for common rosacea triggers and lists of product ingredients, visit www.cosmeticcop.com. I've found it to be very helpful.

FINALLY!
Hello! I was also relieved to have found these reviews! I have recently been experiencing many of the things that everyone on here has described (like the redness, itching, breaking out, etc) and thought it was just me, my cleanser, or just fate I suppose. Now I realize that all along it could have been and most likely is the Bare Minerals...wow..I never realized before! I am going to stop using it all together tomorrow and see if I dont improve! What a horrible company promoting products that irritate sensitive skin...how could they!?!

STAY AWAY FROM BARE ESCENTUALS
Immediately my forehead itched like crazy but I dismissed it. A week later, my eyelids itched like crazy and agian I dismissed it. A month later my lips broke out into a terrible rash/irritation. The corners of my mouth became so irritated and dry, I couldn't open my mouth to eat without them cracking and bleeding. My bottom lip became swollen and oozed puss. The red bumps went around my whole lip line around my mouth. I finally realized it was the makeup.
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK EVERYONE.

Allergic Reaction
I tried Bare Escentuals starter kit for about two weeks. After the second time I used it, I noticed my skin was itchy and my eyes were itchy. I had some red blotchy rashes on my cheeks. I dismissed it, because I am prone to food allergies, but after about two weeks, I saw it occur every time I used bare minerals. I didn't have the same problem with the all over face blush - but did with the mineral veil and bare minerals foundation. I'm not sure if it's just one of them, or all of them, but I'm going to take it back and ask for my money back. Beware of any itchiness when you use it. I know it works for many people, but it definitely creates a bad reaction w/ my skin.

horrible!
I have been a professional makeup artist for over 20 years and this has to be the worst reaction I have ever seen! (on myself)
I have worked with and worn everything from the most expensive, quality make up to the cheapest no-name brands and I have to say that I am beyond disappointed with this product. I bought approx $85.00 worth of this product in one of their boutiques because I bought the hype! I thought that that I too could look flawless without wearing "heavy" makeup ....This product caused my face to itch and break out into tiny bumps around my lips and chin. I developed eczema-like spots around the eyes and bridge of my nose and large bumps on my cheeks. I tried to blame it on my moisturizer so I continued to try to use the Bare-minerals; since I had invested a large amount of money... I tried it over and over until it was obvious the make-up was the culprit! The last and final time I applied Bare Minerals I had large hives on my chin and cheeks!
The coverage is horrible and the colors are pink based so anyone with olive skin appears to have a gray mask sitting on top of their face! I cannot believe people actually purchase makeup on TV when you cannot match your skin. They have great marketing but a crappy product.

So it is the makeup...
I bought Bare Minerals a few weeks ago and initially loved the powder, but this past weekend bumps broke out all over my forehead, around my eyes and under my chin. I was certain it was a reaction to food I ate at a restaurant, but had suspicions about my makeup. Finally, after Googling the symptoms, I came across this posting. I'm going to stop using the makeup to see if my face clears. I think its the Bare Minerals.

perioral dermatitis
The rash one reader has is perioral dematitis. I developed a rash around my mouth after using Sheer Cover, and the dermatologist said it was not rosacea, but a disorder that happens around your mouth, hence the name peri-oral. The prescribed medication for this is Metrogel, which is why the rash cleared up after using it.

Triggered rosacea
I bought this make-up because I thought it would be quicker and easier to use than my usual foundation/powder combo. (I've always had pretty decent-looking skin and have never had an allergic reaction to any kind of make-up that I've ever tried.) The foundation and mineral veil did look great on, but after about an hour of wearing it, my skin started burning like someone had thrown sulfuric acid in my face. Even after washing it off, the burning sensation didn’t stop. By the next morning, I had huge red welts on each cheek and about 30 large, swollen pimples on my chin, nose and forehead – and my skin was still burning. I went to a dermatologist ASAP, who gave me a prescription cream (Elidel) to use for two weeks that stopped the burning sensation and reduced the size and color of the welts, though they didn’t completely disappear. The blemishes also healed themselves in a week or so. However, I now have extremely sensitive skin in the area where the welts were. I have heavy flushing on my cheeks and all of my usual skin care products also cause the welts to reappear. When I returned to the dermatologist for a follow-up, he told me that sometime severe allergic reactions can trigger a rosacea flare, especially in fair-skinned people. He put me on doxycycline, which I’ve been on for about a month, and it has helped with the redness and swelling. I’m hoping that with another month of treatment, my skin will return to normal (or at least somewhat close to normal). All in all, this is one of the worst experiences I’ve had, and the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with a make-up. It’s devastating to go from having normal skin to having huge red welts and profuse acne literally overnight. Buyer beware!

Eye Probelms with Bare Mineral
I started out buying 250 dollars worth of Bare Minerals and have never had any allergic reactions before except for hives with pennacillin.
I developed Giant Papillary Conjuncivitus in my right eye (my eyelid is swollen and I am very teary and irritated in the eye) and even with steroid eye drops it does not seem to go away. I suspected it was the Bare minerals face power. I have stopped using it and my eye seems to be getting better.
This eye condition is usually only seen in contact lens wearers which I do not wear. So my eye doc said it was not a "textbook" case.
There must be some mineral or something that is irritant in the makeup.

Terrible for Sensitive Skin
I feel very lucky that I didn't shell out the bucks for this stuff. My girlfriend offered to do my makeup for my wedding using the Bare Minerals that she had just started using. Thankfully we did a trial go of it a couple weeks before the wedding. She spent an hour using the arsenal she had bought and within a few hours my face was covered in small red bumps and by the next morning, patches of flaking skin. Even after cleansing my face thoroughly, my cheeks were so irriated, I wanted claw the skin off. Horrible stuff for people who have either sensitive skin or rosacea. Their marketing people are fully taking advantage of us by preying on our life long desire to have clear looking skin, great coverage, and a non-reactive product. Their claim that Bare Minerals is appropriate for even the most sensitive skin is rediculous. Buyer Beware.

Worst breakouts EVER
I used bare minerals ONCE. It felt like I had a layer of makeup, or a mask on. Not only that, all it really did was make me look like I had a tan: my skin is white as in porcelain white, no real color to it except my freckles but my cheeks are red and I hate that. I bought the starter kit for $60 from Sephora hoping it would cover up my red cheeks. Now I have the worst breakouts on my face I have EVER had. My entire forehead, my upper lip and all around my mouth is like sandpaper because there are so many bumps. ANYONE with sensitive skin SHOULD NOT use this. I went and bought some Neutrogena oil-free acne wash and it's gone down very little. Hopefully it will get better soon.

awful reaction to this make up
I started using BE about four months ago and at first, I loved it. It didn't feel heavy like most make up and it was great at covering my rosacea. I noticed that my eyes became very dry and just thought, no big deal, it's some of the powder getting into my eyes. During the summer and early fall months I didn't use the Bare Minerals everyday, but now that it's winter, I started using it more. I first noticed my eyelids getting very red, both upper and lower. I stopped using the eye shadow and continued with the face powder only. Last week my right eye became extremely red and my upper lid started to swell. I now have an infection that is so severe, I'm having to use hot compresses on my eye every two hours, antibiotic/anti-inflammatory drops every four hours and I'm on doxicycline twice a day!! The upper and lower lids are very swollen, red and itchy. The white of my eye is flaming red and it's very uncomfortable. I've been to the eye doctor three times in a week! I know it's from the minerals getting into my eyes that caused me to have such a reation. My left eye was on the verge of an infection too. Beware of this make up... I have rosacea and although it didn't bother my skin it certainly has done a number on my eyes!!!!

RUINED MY SKIN
I had absolutely perfect skin. I got the Bare Minerals starter kit for Christmas and used it 3 days before I broke out with a wicked bad rash all over my face and neck. I have had this reaction to a few other cosmetics in the past, but never this bad. I hope I can return it all!
I really hope the Bare Minerals company will stop pushing this product as safe since it is obviously far from safe for everyone! I had to take Benadryl last night and I am slathering my face in topical antihistamines to try to stop the reaction. I am still getting bumps even though I haven't used in it a couple days!!
This stuff is very dangerous!! Order the free trial kit from TV if you think you want to try this. I am really sad that my boyfriend tried hard to get me something I wanted and I really hope he has the receipt for the kit he purchased for me.
Bare Minerals is not the pure and safe product it claims to be. The reaction I am having is really really awful.
Best of luck to you all. Try a test spot before you cover your beautiful face in it!!!!

so far so good!
I just finished reading all the horrible reviews and feel fortunate that I have not had the same experience. I was very recently diagnosed with subtype 2 Rosacea and have been getting mild flare-ups on my nose for about 3-4 months now. I changed my whole skincare regime and was given the recommendation to use mineral make-up (I had to stop using my Mac make up, much to my dismay); two of my co-workers use the BE, one of them with rosacea, so I bought the starter kit in mid-December. I love how it feels (very light) and I love the coverage; I use the concealer brush on my flare ups and it does an excellent job of covering. I happen to have very dehydrated skin as well and being able to use a soft brush to apply makeup has been great for that. My skin is now considerably less dehydrated since I've started using a milder cleanser. I am currently searching for other products to complete my regime. My skin is not so sensitive though--I've never experienced itching or burning from any product. Perhaps this is why I have not had the same reactions as most BE users here?
Regardless, I will probably search for an alternate mineral makeup line once I run out of my trial kit; even though I am not currently having bad reactions I still don't like the idea of putting harsh chemicals on my face, which could in fact worsen my rosacea.

Bare Minerals Works For Me
I have been using Bare Minerals for about 10 months. It covers the redness on my cheeks and has not caused flare ups. What I like best about this product is that I can put a minimal amount on to cover the redness whereas when I used a liquid foundation it seemed as if I had to put on a lot to get the coverage. And I now seem to have fewer flare ups and clogged pores since I use less. Several other reviews mention an itchy sensation and what I have noticed is that my skin itches only when my face is sweaty or really warm. (Such as taking a walk outside during my lunch hour in the summer.) The sensation does not last long, but it is noticeable. However, since I live in the north, this isn't often a problem for me, even in summer.

Thanks for the warning
I was going to buy this product but was worried about the mineral content, as natural deodorants, especially pure crystal sticks, have bought me out in a rash before.
When I was in my forties I developed Rosacea quite badly and was on antibiotics for about a year.
This cleared my face up considerably and I also found that camomile based products kept it clear.
I'm now 60 years old and people remark on my clear skin which is amazing considering what it used to look like.
Unfortunately, the camomile tinted moisturiser that I used to wear is no longer available so any suggestions would be welcome.

CONTACT LENS wearers
I have spent a fortune on BE makeup....I use BE on a daily basis wanting more than anything for it to work like it is described. I started to notice my eyes bothering me almost everyday, I thought well it must be my contacts, I need to change them and put in new ones.. so I thought.. After replacing my lenses I still noticed this horrible irritation and burning in my eyes. I finally went to the eye doctor and he asked me if I was using Bare Escentuals makeup and of course I said yes, he said that the product has tiny gold metallic fibers in it and is damaging your eyes, when you put the makeup on, you are spreading this gold metallic powder into your eyes and it is grinding into your contacts and into your eyes. WOW I was really mad. The reason I was so upset is because Bare Escentuals NEVER DISCLOSES IF YOU WEAR CONTACT LENSES, YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT...I immediately contacted MRS. LESLIE CEO OF BE or at least one of her flunkies that answers all of her emails. They told me that both the burning on my face and my eyes was NORMAL!!!!! and it should disappear in a few days....WHAT? I COULDN'T BELEIVE IT!! and that was all the email back to me said... so again I emailed them back and said so WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST I DO TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM??? their response- well you might want to put Mineral Veil on your face before applying your foundation that should take care of the burning... WELL WHAT ABOUT THE CONTACTS AND MY EYES?? once again they replied well return the makeup then..... UNBELIEVEABLE!! Very poor resolution I AM DISSCUSED WITH THIS COMPANY AND WITH QVC FOR PROMOTING SUCH A MISLEADING PRODUCT TO THERE AUDIENCE AND CUSTOMERS...

Bare Escentuals
The one thing that I noticed from the other reviews is that everyone should try a product for themselves. It is obvious that each person could have a different reaction. I have had rosacea for about 15 years and have tried many many many different cleansers and make-ups. I used a liquid make-up for most of the 15 years and 18 months ago I decided to try bare escentuals. It has been wonderful. I don't have to use as much for coverage of the red areas. During the last 15 years I have had breakouts or dry skin patches that would itch. It seems to be weather related and also heat related to physical activity. I have never been able to fully stop this with any medication that the dermotologist prescribed. With bare escentuals I have not had any more breakouts than before and feel that I have actually had less and the redness has reduced. For me my facial cleanser and full skin care makes the difference not just my make-up. Not every make-up is for every person, but I am thankful this is working for me. I am sure that alot of the other make-ups that did not work for me would possibly work for someone else. I just had to continue to try different products to find the best one for me. Hope you will too.

Best makeup I've used!
Reading all the bad reviews, I had to add a positive one. I was diagnosed with Rosacea 9 months ago and changed my whole skin care routine as directed by the doctor. I had been interested in Bare Escentuals, so I bought the trial kit. The coverage of breakouts is fabulous, and I can wear it overnight if I must (never a good idea!) without reaction. If I put too much on, it can look crepey around the eyes (where my wrinkles are), but that's my fault.
I'm sorry for those who have adverse reactions to Bare Escentuals. I've talked to so many people with Rosacea & other skin problems who use it and love it that all of these negative reviews surprised me! I'm glad I tried it for myself, and hope others whom it might help won't be afraid to do so.

Terrible eye problem
I have always had sensitive skin, heard from a friend how great this product is and thought I would give it a try. Yesterday morning, although I had a cold, I went with my daughter to the Bare Essentials Store. After having them apply my makeup, my eyes started to itch. Thought it was from my cold - a new symptom. By the time my daughter was done trying it on and we had lunch at a nearby restaurant, I was miserable. My eyes burned, itched and started to swell. They were extremely light sensitive - I had to put on my husband's sunglasses that were left in his car that I had borrowed. Both eyes started to swell, the left, more so than the right. When we reached home, I tried flushing them out with otc artificial tears, tried cool compresses, warm compresses, my vision blurred, it was like someone had thrown dirty sand into my eyes... I woke up this morning with my left eye matted shut. Flushed both eyes again with the artificial tears. The eyelids are still swollen, still red, still uncomfortable, but better than they were yesterday. Fortunately, I was so miserable that I hadn't yet opened my product - $175 worth, and intend to return it today. If my eyes do not clear within a couple of days, I will need to see an eye doctor for medication. I, too, have rosacea, but will be happy to deal with it as I have in the past and would NEVER advise trying these products. By the way, my friend has been dabbing at her eyes for some time now and says that her doctor says she has "dry eye" and has given her medication for it. I'll be giving her a call and asking if her "dry eye" began shortly after using these products. I was so relieved to see these reports of other people's problems with these products and appreciate the time they took to write them. I read all of them, even as my eyes itched and blurred.

Unbelievable!!
I stumbled upon this webpage as i was desperately trying to figure out how after 30 years of having trouble-free skin, I was just yesterday diagnosed by a dermatologist with having something called "perioral dermititis" ---- a red rash around the mouth -- AND NOW I AM CONVINCED IT IS THE BARE ESSENTIALS. Like all the other postings, I have been using Bare Essentials for nearly nine months and have loved it. However, about two months ago, i got my first breakout around my mouth of little red bumps and near my nose. I have never had any skin disorders before. It eventually went away and I assumed it was just an allergic reaction to something. Then last week, it came back even worse than before. I went to a dermatologist who took one look and said it was classic "perioral dermatitis" and prescribed me metrogel. Unfortunately, the doctor had no real explanation for how this skin disorder is caused. I have spent days trying to research this condition, and now having read the reviews of others who have the same exact experience, I have no doubt that it is the Bare Essentials. I never had early signs so did not think it was the makeup but now conviced and will stop using Bare Essentuals tomorrow! BEWARE ALL!! Any suggestions on what to use if you like Bare Essentials but don't want to kill your skin??? HELP!!

created more trouble for me
I have tried sooo many different things. This one however I liked the way it felt once on however within a day I noticed tiny bumps all over my face. Especially on my forehead. It also took my skin which is normally oily to dry. Over an extended period of time Extremely dry! Still looking for my answer however. Trying Arboone next....

another possible problem
Hi,
I really liked using this but....
I have had the worst bumps on my chin.....they started a few weeks after I started using this product.....I thought it was just my rosacea worsening since I had heard this make up was good for sensitive skin. I am going to stop using it just in case
this is the culprit....I wish I paid more attention to when the bumps started, but I think it was close to the time I started using this.

bare mineral problems
I was just reading some of the reviews for bare minerals and I cant believe that there are people that experienced the same reaction that I had. I was eager to try this new bare minerals but a day after I tried it I noticed a huge welp and redness above me eye. I also noticed a dark circle under my eye. It almost looked like someone had punched me there. I have never had any reaction to make up before and I was upset that this had happened with a product that claims to be natural and safe for your skin. It even made my pores look like craters. Buyer beware!!!!

AN ESTHETICIAN WITH ACNE?
Yieeks..... I have been using Bare Minerals for the past year and have really loved it! This is until the last month when I have had the worst acne I have ever had.. coupled with other skin issues like redness around the mouth and tiny pustul like bumps near my nose.
At 35, I was convinced my great skin days were just ending. Not only now was I having to worry about aging skin, I now had to worry about acne and scarring! After doing everything short of moving out of my house to find the culprit I noticed, the days I was not wearing Bare Minerals, my skin looked better. There you have it. Now I'm trying to do everthing to restore the health of my skin and I'm convinced it is the Bismuth Oxychloride. I have sense moved to a makeup line called Lotus Minerals and have been happy. Good luck to you all! Remeber that you skin has an increadible ability to heal itself. Stop using the Bare Minerals and your skin will thank you. Be Well~

not impressed
I am happy to hear that it is not just me. I tried BE and was pleased at first. Then I noticed my skin became very dry and my eyes are dry, itchy and my eyelids feel tight all the time. I also noticed that my pores started to look very large, something I never had a problem with before. I seemed to need to put a lot of product on to cover the rosacea, which made all the other issues worse. Guess this is one more product headed for the trash!

Awful...like chalk
This is the worst makeup ever! I have never known I had such flaws until using this. It has broken me out all over and the "well rested" is so heavy and so awful that it's like having lead weights on my eyelids. I itch and have redness. It settles and cakes in every fine line or wrinkle. Don't believe the infomercial. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Save your money and don't be a sucker like I was!

BE Minerals
I use it... my mom, sister inlaws, aunt and now grandmother! I have always had acne problems and since I've used BE I have a much clearer complection. I always get complimented on my make-up. Everyone close to me is using BE now including my co workers. There is a trick to the coverage.... Just keep playing with it till you get the look you desire. When I first used the eye shadows I thought I was allergic to the make up because my eyelids would burn!!! BUT I switched brushes (eyeshadow brushes) to another cheaper brand and no more problems.
~Best wishes to all of you pretty faces!~

Bare Minerals
I bought the starter kit and another pot of foundation, thinking it would be a great answer to my skin, which gets shiny during the day. Within 1 day of using the products, my face broke out into tiny red bumps and scaly patches, mainly around my chin/jawline, mouth and around my eyes. I am going to return this stuff to Sephora immediately!

Bare Minerals made my skin flake, I got acne from it, and now I have a HUGE hive the size of a quarter- that is burning and itching. Has anyone ever considered a class-action lawsuit? Bismuth chloride is a harmful skin irritant that causes burns to the skin! DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. You can read all about bismuth chloride on the internet. Please respond if you've heard anything about a lawsuit.

Glad I\'m not alone!
I don't have rosacia, but I have had mild acne problems in the past, and more recently, I had to visit a dermatologist because I started getting large painful swollen bumps deep in the skin. These were further irritated because of the CPAP machine I wear at night for sleep apnea. I was prescribed a strong topical antibacterial gel, and it was working. Then I got a Bareminerals starter kit for my 24th birthday. I also happen to have pretty severe vitiligo (loss of pigmentation in the skin, so I have white patches all over my body including my face), and I was hoping that I had found something that would actually make me feel good about my face.
Well, at first i loved the makeup - it covered my vitiligo, acne scarring, and redness! It looked great! But after a few days I got a huge blemish - so I just thought it was the stress I was under (my college graduation was a few weeks away!) - so i covered it up with more bareminerals.
After a week or two, I noticed even more acne flare ups - I had five or six painful bumps on my chin...it hadn't been that bad in years. Graduation was just a day away, so I was forced to wear the awful makeup for another day. It burned my already aching skin. The day after graduation, I stopped wearing bareminerals and went back to the Revlon Colorstay (which does NOT irritate my skin). It's been about a week, and my skin is almost healed. I noticed that the stuff really clogged my pores - I have huge pores that get clogged easily, and the bareminerals made it worse!
I contacted bareminerals, and they told me I could have a refund (rather my mom could have a refund because she bought it for my b-day). They tried to tell me that it was the animal hair brushes that made me break out, not the product. I'm not allergic to animal hair!
But at least I'm getting a refund.

I am so very happy to read this. Since BE is not a product that's easy to come by in the Netherlands, I first tried mineral make up off of Ebay. The cheaper version. Had no problems with it whatsoever, loved it and used it for a few weeks ... I just recently purchased the I.D Bare Escentuals Bare Radiance and I honestly thought it was my cleanser that gave me a red rash and burning sensation for the past 2 days (been using it for 3 days). I couldn't figure out what it was. Now it turns out that the allergic reaction was to the tiny bit of bare radiance I used. Thank God I came across this before my skin could get any worse.

Bare Escentuals
I have moderate to mild rosacea. It is mild unless something starts a flare up, then it is moderate. I have been using BE for 5 years now, and I am very pleased with it. I find the coverage to be very natural looking, and love the feeling that I have no makeup on. I have read the reviews posted here, and I am really surprised. It does not trigger a flare up for me, but then we all have different chemistry. I wouldn't use it either if my skin reacted badly. Then, of course you feel angry and cheated. I am only too familiar with that feeling having recently tried a moisturizing product purported to work wonders for people who have rosacea. When it caused me to have the most horrible flare up in my life, I was just livid!! So, there's no question that you should never use it again.
However, for those who thought it felt heavy and looked cakey on their skin, I believe the problem could be the application. It takes very little of the foundation powder to do your entire face. After you get the powder worked into the brush, you tap it until you really cannot see any more powder on the brush. It is not the 2 little taps they show on the infomercial. Tap it like you are trying to get all of the powder out. Then it is ready to put on. I seldom have to put any more powder on the brush to complete my makeup. For more coverage, repeat the entire process including the brush taping. Truly, if you can see any powder on your brush it will look and feel horrible on your skin. Being used to liquid foundations, I had to practice quite a bit until I got the idea.
Again, I am sorry for all of those who had nasty reactions, it's enough to make you cry and want to hide. Once this bad experience is behind you, try other products carefully. There's probably something out there that's beneficial and not harmful to you. If not, then using nothing is better by far than the misery this caused you.

NASTY RASH !!
Thank God I found this website. I am 48 and have always had compliments on my skin, UNTIL I started wearing Bare Minerals. With all the hype on TV about it, I, too, decided to give it a try because I have very pale skin and it is hard to find a complimentary color with over the counter makeup. Yes, it went on well and it did cover well. I still had a hard time getting the base color perfect, but with all the other colors of blush, etc., I had from Bare Minerals, I finally found a system that I thought looked o.k. Within an hour, I was a bumpy, red mess and my face itched like nothing I've ever felt before. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something I had eaten, so I took two Benadryl and went about my day. After a few more hours I was still itching and couldn't stand it anymore so off the makeup came. I called the company and they said they couldn't explain what might have happened, but that the allergic reaction was probably something other than the makeup and to give it another try. They said the makeup was "hypoallergenic" after all and that they had had NO reports of any negative allergic reactions. After a couple more attempts and a bottle of Benadryl, I have given all the Bare Minerals away (to someone who can wear them successfully) and will never put them on my face again. I have red, blotchly, bumpy face skin along with a couple areas of tiny bumps with a greenish puss, of which I have never had before. My Dr. said it is definately an allergic reaction and to never use it again - none of it. I just wish the company would admit that not everyone can wear it and that it isn't the "end all" product they say it is. I'm very disappointed.

Bare Escentuals
I LOVE Bare Escentuals! This is the first make-up that I've tried that gives me anything like normal skin tone! It covers all the veins and redness and it stays on all day. It feels like and wonderful, plus it doesn't clog my pores. In fact, all those pesky blackheads seem to be going away!!!
If you use this with a good, mild moisturizer (like Avene for sensitive/rosacea prone skin), a mild cleanser (like cetaphil)...I think it works wonders.

Bare Minerals - DO NOT USE!
I bought into the hype and bought Bare Minerals. I loved it, loved the colors, etc. I was a little surprised that toxic metals could be good for your face, but disregarded any concern with all the positive publicity.
After 43 years of absolutely no complexion problems, I am now all broke out with red bumps and pimples on my entire face. It is bad. I had no idea it was the Bare Minerals and kept using it. My husband said something is definitely, I do not break out like this. He suspected it was the Mineral make-up.
I stopped using it, and have stopped getting new bumps, but will have pimple scars all over my face due to this make-up. I am also wondering if I should get a blood test to see if any of these toxic metals could have leached into my blood.
This stuff is absolutely not good for you at all. I hope this doesn't cause cancer or some permanent injury. The company founders will probably cash out their millions and run and hide somewhere.
Email me if you are interested in pursuing a class action lawsuit. I created an email address, and will create a Yahoo group so we can organize.

Want to scratch my face off
I seriously thought I was crazy! I too bought into the hype and purchased the starter kit. I loved the way it looked until my face and neck broke out in a huge red rash and began to itch like crazy! I have worn all types of make up and have NEVER had a reaction like this before. Hypoallergenic?! are you freakin kidding me? I am so glad I didn't buy the eye makeup! I tried putting the blush on my lip balm before applying (just like they do in the infomerical) and my lips swelled up so much that I looked like Angelina Jolie on steriods! Please ladies- don't put these toxic minerals on your face

Do Not Use!!!
I've experienced the same negative reactions to Bare Escentuals products that everyone has been describing. I ordered the start-up kit and immediately after applying, my skin began to itch, tighten up, and turn red. In addition, the eye make-up gave me a horrific case of conjunctivites in both eyes!!!
Stay away from these products - my skin still has not returned to normal.

Something Better!!!
A friend bought this and was raving, so I thought I'd try it. I ordered it and it was just okay. That was a few years ago, I've been reading all of your reviews and I have to say the very best coverage I get is from a very good quality, professionally matched to my skin tone, liquid foundation applied sparingly with a good quality foundation brush. If you want a lot of coverage and don't want to look like you are wearing make-up, go to the Saks counter, tell them you want Chanel foundation and a Lancome brush. The Saks make-up counter salespeople are fantastic. They don't push a specific brand, they push the very best in each line. Ask them to match it and to apply it for you. You take a TINY drop and feather it on with the brush, then pat a TINY amount of really good quality loose powder (Laura Mercier) with a velvet puff. You will be amazed! I used to use tons of product and the results were horrible! Caked, flakey, greasy, thick coverage that wouldn't last. If you use the technique of Bare Minerals with good quality products I think you'll be as amazed as I was. Oh, I'm also very sensitive to SPFs and have VERY sensitive skin and pretty moderate Rosacea (I use Metrogel and occasional V-Beam laser) and the above works wonders. I use the Biotherm Sensitive cleansers & moisturizers line. Also, don't be frightened by the cost of the products, I buy 1 $50 foundation per year. Stop spending your money trying tons of crap and just go buy the good stuff and use it the way they tell you to.

I have had the same problem with the bare mineral makeup. my face really itches. i;ve tried lilly lolo and bellepiere minerals and they both make my face itch as well as the bare minerals. i thought it was the bismuth ingredient but belle pierre hasn't got it. so i dont know what it is. my face really reacted with the bellepierre its much worse if your hot and you perspire it irrited my rosacea and gave me a rash, all these companies claim it supposed to be ok for all skin types and the ingredients are all natural but someyhing in them irritates my skin. i do feel disappointed as i found the coverage really good especially the bellepierre. it covered all my broken capilaries and rosacea but i cant bare the irritation. has anyone found a mineral that dosent irritate?

BEWARE! CAUSED CYSTIC ACNE!
I began to use this product after hearing many raves about it from friends. Prior to the use of this product, my skin had been in the best condition that I had ever seen it. I used it for about a month and a half total and noticed severe acne beginning to form. I didn't think that it could possibly be Bare Minerals considering it's supposed to be "so pure that you can sleep in it". I stopped everything else I was doing and my acne became consistently worse becoming extremely painful around my temples, my cheekbones, and my chin; I knew it had to be Bare Minerals. I stopped using the product and it took well over 2 months to heal. Replacing the acne is now scarring and hyperpigmentation. I have spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in an attempt to fix the scarring and hyperpigmentation, and now I have to spend a thousand dollars on laser resurfacing. Due to the condition of my skin (thank you Bare Minerals!), I lost my contract with Ford Models. Now that I see that countless others have suffered from like symptomes, I want to make this story known to all the hopeful individuals out there who want to believe Bare Minerals might work for them. If you have sensitive skin such as I do, do not try this product because you will regret it. I want to file a lawsuit against Bare Minerals for the repayment of all the money I have spent trying to regain my once clear skin.

Bad experience with BM
I too had a terrible allergic reaction with BM. After reading everyone else's experience it is somewhat of a relief to see I'm not th only one who had these problems. I had bumps and itchiness and by the end of the first day I knew something was terribly wrong. I only used one day but it took about 6 weeks for my face to clear up with visit to the dermatologist/steriod cream. It cost me quite a bit of money to "undo" the damage this makeup did. I would not recommend this product to anyone with sensitive skin.

happy with the product
I have so much scar pigmentation from ance when I was younger, I've tried Mary Kay-which made me too made up and cakey. I've tried Almay, Physican Formula, but the coverage was too thick. I'm very attactive and sweat alot, I don't need my make up to melt. I tried Bare Mineral and have been very happy. Actually it has improved my skin tone and complexion. I had dry skin and alot of adult acne and was so happy to see an improvement in only a couple of weeks. I've been using if for about 3 months and wouldn't go back to anything else.
I don't have rosacea or any other skin irritants. Even if the the make up says its good for you to sleep in, I don't. I wash my face very well before bed.
My experience is a positive one, I sorry to hear others have had a bad experience, then again, we all don't have the same skin type or skin irritants. Hope this review helped.

Very itchy skin
Bare Minerals gave my very bright red itchy skin after using it for only three days. So itchy that I felt like scratching the skin off my face - I mean it was very badly itchy. Also I developed bright red puffy skin under my eyes it was very embarassing. After reading what other women had to say on this site I am going to stop using BM this instant. Too bad - this product is expensive - what a waste of money. Back to using Lancome - not a perfect match to my skin color but at least it dosn't make my skin feel like it's on fire and itching.

Liked it at first
I thought that maybe my skin was going through some sort of 7 year changing period but I am so glad to see that others have felt the same way. I have had problems with my skin in the past and found that proactiv helped a lot with that. within the past year or so i started using bare minerals, i really liked it at first, but recently my skin has gone nuts. It wasn't this bad when I was 15. The humidity is pretty bad where I live so I thought maybe it was that, but seeing others having the same problem I am convinced it is Bare Minerals.

Bismuth Oxychloride
Bismuth Oxychloride is an ingredient in BE that lends the pearlescent effect. Research this mineral and you'll see not all is well just because its "non toxic". Most people that have an itchy feeling might want to look at Mica as a problem (also an ingredient in BE).

bare escentuals = bad!!!
soo.. i previously worked for lancome and loved their products but i have very sensitive skin and found occasional breakouts.. so i wanted to try bare escentuals. i've heard the lines its so pure you can sleep in it, so i took myself to a boutique and bought the kit. i have rosacea on my cheeks and very sensitive skin and found the makeup would itch my face within immediate application.. i know from working in cosmetics you skin sometimes has to adapt and the coverage was just so pretty that i really wanted it to work.. i however found that months later my skin is unusually red itchy and covered in tiny little bumps unlike pimples. everyone kept telling me this was a great product but my skin kept turning into a disaster zone! the worst my skin has ever been in my life!!! i wish i could get a refund for all the money and get my old face back! i'm just know switching to jane iredale and seeing a better difference already! i've heard color science is good too.. in my opinion anything is better than bare escentuals!

love the product
I love the stuff. Been using it for months now. My skin has never been brighter and healthy. Sorry to hear all the negative stuff about the product. But it works for me. If I had a very sensitive skin, maybe you should asked the doctors for products that are safe. Those expensive stuff at the department stores were the worst, you had to buy all that stuff that have the same ingredients at rite-aid, target or walmart....who would have thought.

Magic for me!
I'm so sorry to read all the bad reviews for Bare Minerals! It's so true that what works for some, doesn't work for all. Fortunately for me, it works miracles. I'm wondering if it doesn't have to do with the subtype of rosacea you experience. I have never had the kind with bumps or pimples. Mine has always been 'tomato face' as I affectionately call it, and over the past few years, many visible blood vessels. I was actually considering laser treatment to get rid of the blood vessels, but decided to try BE instead.
Like I said, I can't say enough about this product. You'd think they were paying me (I wish). I started out with the wrong color (medium) which they say works on most women. It made me look orange. I called the company and they sent me (free of charge) 2 jars of the lighter color (and let me keep the wrong color). It was perfect. I find that it looks much better with the mineral veil, but that's just me. I DON'T use the mineral veil around my eyes though, because it does tend to magnify my wrinkles around my eyes. I've gotten so many compliments on my skin since I started using BE. Someone even said I had peaches and cream skin, LOL. I feel awful that people are having these break-outs, especially considering that I recommend it to ANYONE and EVERYONE. I hope that no one I told experienced these reactions!

allergic reaction
The second time I put the makeup on, I started noticing my face feeling itchy. I took a walk and by the time I came home my arms and body started feeling itchy as well. Followed by my tongue swelling and mouth feeling funny. I immediately took benedryl and started searching the web for reactions to this product. I wish I would have known about this before I considered trying the product!

Itchiness
I just got the starter kit and decided to give it a try since I have nothing better to do today. It was an interesting experience putting it on and it looked pretty cool after I was done; I was pretty happy with the end result with the exception of my face feeling dry. But then about a hour or so later my face started to itch, especially in the areas where I applied more to "conceal."
Thinking I might have an allergic reaction to it, I googled "bare minerals allergies" to see if allergic reactions are common and came upon this site. The stories had me a bit worried and the itchiness wasn't subsiding. If anything, it was spreading to other areas of my face.
I took off the make-up with my make-up remover. Wow, there was a lot of make-up that came off; more so than with my regular make-up ... I guess a little does go a long way? I washed my face afterwards and water kind of stung my skin! I've never had this reaction after using my make-up remover in the past. *0.o So weird! I washed my face with my cleanser and it didn't stop itching. I did my daily face regimine (lotion and etc.) and my face is still a bit itchy. *0.o I'm hoping that the lotions will help to calm the itchiness and prevent any driness and etc. that others have experienced.
I don't know if this is due to the make-up, but other areas of my body are itching. I just thought I'd put this up since others have mentioned full body reactions to the make-up.

Horrible!
I bought this product after being told by Sephora staff that it would be perfect for my skin. My skin is extremely sensitive, very dry, and also very light, which makes the redness more difficult to cover up. I decided that perhaps it was worth the investment and shelled out $60 on the starter kit.
The first problem arose when I discovered there was salicylic acid in the primer. Salicylic is horrible for sensitive, dry skin - it dries the face out even more! So I immediately stopped using that product.
I continued on with the foundation, warmth powder, and mineral veil, in hopes that those would turn out better. The first problem was that the makeup made my face itch like crazy, and it was even worse when I was sweating. I googled the product to see if anyone else had a similar reaction and, lo and behold, it's quite common! It's due to the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride, which apparently is an irritant to quite a number of people.
The problems continued. I noticed my face was becoming extremely dry. Then the redness in my face got worse [I was finally getting it tamed with Finacea - all that work gone to waste!]. I also began breaking out severely.
After this, I decided to stop using the product and return it to Sephora. My skin is still trying to recover from the just-over-a-week stint with Bare Minerals. This saddens me, because it actually did give great coverage and was light enough for my skin, but the problems it caused far outweighed the benefits. This is not a product that should be recommended for sensitive skin and definitely not a product that should be recommended for people with rosacea!

HORRIBLE
I am 22 yrs old and have never had a problem with my skin, about a year ago i started breaking out in really bad cystic acne. i had no clue why then i started researching and found that alot of ppl were suffering from this after using bare minerals, so i quit using it and what do you know the pimples quit coming. i think its horrible they lie to you. i even called them and asked them they suggested i was allergic to the brushes. no that was not it. alough the pimples have stopped happening since i discontinued use of bare minerals, i am left with scars. i would highly recommend that ppl not use this product!!!!

didn\'t work
I tried Bare Minerals. I didn't get a rash (but I didn't use it for more than a day). I found that even their lightest color was still too dark and too yellow for my base skin tone, and no matter how much powder I applied and how long I buffed and buffed, it simply didn't cover my redness. I have tried other mineral powder foundations (Loreal and Neutrogena) and they too just don't cover the redness.

wow
About 10 months ago i got the big expensive kit from QVC (which still send me random products i dont even want and just take it straight out of my bank account) Like everyone else i was mislead into thinking it was going to be the best makeup ever. Don't get me wrong, the makeup itself works pretty good...until your face starts burning and itching and you can actually feel a layer of filth on your face like a mask. I'm still using bare minerals now but not after tonight, all this time of wondering i never thought it was BE! I always had perfect skin no acne, oiliness or dryness. However when i first started using it i had a small breakout from stopping birth control for a month, i went to the dermatologist and he gave me face wash and some gel stuff to get me thru the month. at that same time i started the BE and thought the burning and dryness were from the face wash. I kept having to use more and more BE to cover up the redness it was doing to my skin. And the Alabama heat this summer made it worse, something about when u sweat your face feels like its on fire!!! I also had crusty flakey skin around my eyes and discoloration, my eyes would water nonstop i had to buy waterproof mascara, and the creases would dry out and burn too! (lots of burning lol) After a couple of months i started to get big sore cystic bumps and these little pimple like bumps that look like you can pop them but when u try they swell up and stay for over a week then turn to scabs. I even bought mattress cover things thinking i had bed bugs (now that i think about it i was blind lol) because every morning i would wake up and there would be more whelps because you know you can "sleep in it" . well now my skin is all dry and flaky around my laugh lines and chin but at the same time the BE makes my face look wet, even tho w/o the makeup its not oily. oh and they say its waterproof....don't get me started.... if you sweat it gets this "paint-y" look and gets stuck on ur lips, you end up looking in the mirror and u have white lips. When my fiance would kiss me he would have white ashy looking lips (kinda embarrassing) and its not easy to get off for some reason. by the end of the day u end up looking like u smeared muddy water on ur face. but i blamed that on the 110 degree summer we had. i can't believe how many people have had the exact same reactions!!! i'm breaking out the old clinique cause i never had problems with it. i wish i knew exactly which one it was that is giving everyone problems because i like the warmth and the mineral veil (i have bumps on my chest tho and i put warmth there!) oh yeah and the facial cleanser felt like it was acid eating my face away lol ...it never ends. I'm glad i found all this out before my wedding i would have been such a pissed bride! i wanted bare minerals to work since i spent soooo much on it i have like 4 packages of it i haven't even opened (the whole QVC thing again).....anyone wanna buy some BE LOL! Anyways thanks for all the posts you guys saved my skin!
haha and as i say goodbye the BE infomercial comes on lol...DON'T LISTEN TO THEM I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN TO BEGIN WITH!

Roman Candle
Oh, the horror. Wore BM makeup for the second time to a job interview. A sadder but wiser girl am I. I lit up, thought it was from being nervous, but days later, and multiple face washings later, my skin is still burning. I appreciate all the comments others have made. The next time I even attempt to buy makeup, I'm going to have it applied by some nice cosmetic person and give it a day or two, instead of rushing in and spending $150 to look like Woody Woodpecker. (I got the job anyway.)

Bare Minerals
Bought this on the advise of friends who love it. After about one hour, the itching began. I wanted to love this product - but it didn't work for my skin at all. They applied the makeup at the store - and I haven't opened the starter kit yet. I'm returning it today (there is a 30 day return policy). I have somewhat sensitive skin, but no makeup I've ever tried has given me this rather extreme reaction. Seems somewhat ingenuous to advertise this as "pure" given the number of reactions people have had to this makeup. Proceed with caution on this one - it definitely has an allergin hidden in it's "natural" makeup.

great coverage, causes bumps
Like many on this forum, I bought BE because I wanted for cover the red but I have thick liquid/cream foundation. I just bought one brush and the loose foundation for my really fair skin. The coverage is GREAT, application QUICK. It requires very little product and lasts forever.
The down side is that I think it tends to accentuate your pores and it take about 15 minutes to equilibrate with my skin and not look like a mask/power.
However, many months into wearing BE it started thinking my skin looked bumpy, (just a little). But I convinced myself this it was minor and that no one else could really see it. Then at a routine Dr. visit my physician asked if she could proscribe me something of the acne on my forehead. I was horrified and asked if it was really that bad. Her response was to tell me that it was a new condition for me, sometimes our skin changes as we age, and the yes she recommended I treat it.
I did not treat it, rather I stopped using all products on my face an slowly reintroduced them (a typical rosacea suffer'spath). With out a doubt it is the BE that causes the bumps. I love the coverage and simplicity of the stuff so much that from time to time over the last several years I have pulled out the BE and tried to use it again. I only finally threw it out two months ago, and I miss it sometimes. I have tired other mineral make, particularly ones with out the fillers like mica and one other culprit I can't remember. None of these have caused skin reactions, but none give great coverage either.
- Addicted...
Incidentally, I have tired tinted Zinco by Linda Sy? Great coverage but dries out the skin above my lip.

covers the red w/o caking
I don't even want to contemplate the amount of money i've spent on makeup, primarily foundations, trying to find one that a) doesn't irritate my skin further and b) will cover up my bright red cheeks! My derm. and a plastic surgeon both recommended trying Bare Minerals and since there was a special on it ($45 for the 'starter' set), I decided it couldn't hurt.
When I first brushed it on it looked like I had applied three layers of powder, but once the natural oils in my skin worked with the minerals it really did have the advertised "flawless" finish. It took me a few tries to get the amount just right, but once I did, it looked great and I had cut about 10 minutes off the time it usually took me to get my makeup on.
The stuff lasts forever and for me, it's worth the additional price over drugstore makeup.

Cystic acne too!
I am so relieved to read these reviews. I have used Bare Minerals for 5 months - it is kind of cakey and shiny, which I don't like. But worst of all, I think now I am able to say, after reading these reviews and noting the remarkably similar experiences of others, it has worsened my acne severely! I was a long time ago diagnosed with mild rosacea (hadn't had a flare in years, until recently?) and acne, which had been under pretty good control prior to using Bare Minerals with a pimple here and there every few months. Well, I can now correlate my skin worsening back to when I started using Bare Minerals. I started getting really bad cystic acne on my chin, nonstop - meaning, I have not been free of cysts on my chin since starting the product! Also, about a little over a month ago, I started getting these weird-looking bumps on my forehead and my cheek area - they are tiny bumps, some are red and some look like whiteheads, but they are different from regular acne - I went to a dermatologist and he thought I had sebaceous gland hyperplasia. He was perplexed because I started seeing him months ago when I first started breaking out like this and he had me on doxycycline and topical medication, to no avail. My skin isn't dry like a lot of people, but oily. I am stopping this makeup tonight. What a shame--my mother and grandmother spent $150 on my birthday on all of this makeup. I am just hoping this clears up. I too used to have very nice skin (controlled very well with my previous acne medications) and now I have ugly hyperpigmentation and some scars on my chin and I'm 36 years old - how embarrassing. I'm just hoping now that I've discontinued this makeup my skin will clear. What false advertising this company employs!

Thank you
I am so thankful I have found this post. I have been searching and searching to find out why I have these horrible red dry patchy areas with bumps all the way around my mouth. I have been using BE for 6 months and thought it was the dry winter weather that was causing this. It is helpful to finally find this posting and read so many others that have had the same problem. Bye, Bye BE!

Horrible results over time
I started using Bare Minerals in the Winter of 2004. I had perfect skin, not oily, not dry, never had acne, no redness, nothing. Bare Minerals covered perfectly, made my skin look flawless, and the warmth was the perfect color. It looked like I wasn't wearing makeup. I absolutely adored it. Around the summer of 2005, my cheek started turning red, with pimple-like small bumps all over my cheek, my jawline, and my forehead. I attributed it to the heat (I live in Texas) and sweating. I did have the stinging irritation occasionally from the roughness of the brush, but I didnt think much of it. Progressively my skin got worse and worse. I have a rough, red, scaly area of skin reaching from behind my ear to under my chin, and all over my cheek. It looks terrible. I went from the girl who never had acne to the girl with the constant breakouts. Still, I attributed my breakouts to either heat, sweat, or possibly bacteria from my phone, since I had a Razr and couldnt clean it well. After graduating from college, I started working in an office, and never have to go outside. That to me ruled out the heat and sweat. I switched phones, which ruled out the phone theory. All I could possibly come up with was stress. Of course I am stressed by new jobs, moving, graduation, etc, but it just seems too much to just be stress. All this while, I have been using my makeup faithfully every day. It is the only stuff I have ever used that I actually thought looked good on me. I stumbled upon some reviews of BM where they said they had a reaction to the makeup that made them breakout like me, and I was absolutely crushed. I have been living for almost 3 years now with pain, itchiness, irritation, disgusting pimples, and plummetting self-esteem, and the whole time I have been doing it to myself! I never once considered that my makeup could be doing this to me until today. I wore it to work today! Of course I washed it off, but I just dont know how permanently my face is scarred. I am so upset, I wish I had found this site 3 years ago. I feel so incredibly foolish for buying a product, and continually using it, that has absolutely and permanently ruined my face. Now not only do I have to try to repair this damage, but I have to find new makeup, which is scary in itself! What do I do? I am considering recourse, because the way my face looks should NOT have been caused by my makeup! If anyone can help me, please contact me.

Horrible Reaction
I had heard so much about Bare Minerals and thought it would be my saving grace as I am battling tough rosacea. My face got worse-turned bright red, burned and was drier than ever--and so so painful. Like little flare ups I would get here and there from other reactions, this made my entire face flare up. It took a few days for the breakouts to start to go away and the flaky skin to moisten back to normal. A good 2 weeks before it went back to "normal."
The search continues for a product that will cover my rosacea.

Got Rash, Got My $$$ Back
I bought BE just before my husband and I left for a 4-day trip to Vegas. I purchased it from Sephora here in Canada where I live. Within two days, I noticed that my skin was becoming super-dry but chalked it up to the change in climate as well as the water at the hotel. The next day, a rash started to appear along my jaw line and on the flight back, I noticed welts starting to appear on my cheeks. As it was an overnight flight, I again attributed the skin change to environmental factors. Upon arriving home, my normally clear, fair skin was blotchy, bumpy and extremely dry. After two days with no change and an intensive amount of moisturizing (in an attempt to alleviate the dryness) I finally decided to check out any BE-related allergies online. Then I happened upon this page. I was SO happy. Not only did what was happening to me make complete sense, I also discovered that the overnight flight was NOT to blame for the slight blistering that had begun to occur on my right eyeball. It was the BE in combination with the fact that I wore 2-week lenses that was the issue. As I had already opened and used the product, I was somewhat concerned that Sephora may not allow me to return the $117 (CAN) purchase - I also bought a blusher. However, when I approached the salesclerk and briefly explained that this product was NOT going to work for me, she gladly accepted the return and refunded me my money. Although I do have sensitive skin, I suffer from no skin ailments of any sort and was very disappointed at my skin’s reaction with this product. There should definitely be a warning at the stores that sell this product indicating that BE contains both bismuth oxychloride and mica. Needless to say, I will NEVER use anything from this product line again.

yikes
I saw this product at a skin rx center and since I use and LOVE their skin medica and skinceutical products I thought I'd give it a try. The first day everything was fine, looked good face looked luminous, the second day whn I washed it off at night, my skin burned, I thought maybe it was the cleanser I was trying, the third day my throat became very sore on op and it felt like it was harder to breathe. My face itched on and off all day but no redness or bumps. I thought I might be getting a cold, but then I realized my face only itched where I'd applied the BE. I washed it off and had to take benadryl. I am 35 and have spent a lot of money including laser resurfacing and really expensive good quality skin care products to keep my skin looking perfect. I thought I was doing something GOOD for my skin since it was sold at a skin rx center. Not only is this product expensive, but I believe it is DANGEROUS. Bismuth Oxychloride? Isn't this used in NUCLEAR REACTORS? I hav never ,ever had a reaction like this to any make up and I'm FURIOUS that it is marketed as "all natural and perfect for sensitive skin". This stuff is a NIGHTMARE! THANK GOD I ONLY USED IT THREE TIMES.

Mislead
The first day I used this product I thought it was great. Then the second day I put it on and went out. Began to sweat and my face began to burn. That night when I got home I noticed small bumps and redness on my cheeks, under my eyes and on my nose. I will not use this product again. Going back to regular drug store make up. Revlon works best for me.

Bismuth Oxychloride
I bought some of the BE on the recommendation of a friend who has Rosacea and said it was great for her skin. I thought it would be a good product for me and would help my skin heal from a breakout caused by a medication switch. The first few times I used the products, it did a good job on covering the blemishes but my face would itch. I thought maybe it was the buffing with tht brushes causing it and not the makeup. After a while, I realized that the makeup would cause my face to itch even more as the day progressed and even my eyes started to feel puffy. It was not helping my acne at all. I stopped using the makeup and my skin is getting better but slowly. I checked and bismuth oxychloride is one of the ingredients in this brand of makeup. It is kin to arsenic. I guess I must be allergic because of the reaction. I checked many of the natural mineral makeups offered and most of them contain this compound. It is by no means a natural mineral. It is added as a filler to create that matte finish we crave. I found two brands online that do not use the bismuth oxychloride in their products. Everydayminerals.com offers a free sample kit with 3 foundation, 1 blush, and 1 concealer sample for the low cost of $3.97 for shipping. Larenim.com is another site where the samples are $3.95 plus shipping but you can get the makeup at whole foods and other retailers. I have some on order from both companies to see if either will work for me. Just thought I would pass the information on. The Larenim cosmetics cost about as much as the BE but the everyday minerals is considerably cheaper. Plus you only have to spend $4 to see if it is the right one for you instead of the $60 kit price with BE.

Allergic reaction
I adopted a dog the same week I purchased the Bare Minerals foundation. Within a couple of days of using the foundation, my face developed a red rash and felt very hot. At first I thought it may be some reaction to the dog, but I never had an allergic reaction to any other pet I've owned. I soon figured out it was the Bare Minerals making my skin breakout! My skin has cleared somewhat within the following weeks but I fear it will never be the same again. It feels slightly rough and has "patchy" look to it. I am hoping this will clear up with time.

Not the makeup but the brush?
I'd used other mineral makeups without and breakouts or sensitivity issues, so when I received a Bare Escentuals kit, which included brushes and makeup, I was delighted.
However, after a couple of uses, my skin began to burn and feel itchy as soon as the makeup brush touched my face. The BE website confirmed my suspicions that the some of the brushes are made with goat hair. Several allergy info websites list goat hair as a potential allergen.
As an experiment, I tried an application on one side of my face using a Taklon(synthetic) brush and the "Kabuki" BE brush on the other. Guess what? The Kabuki side itched and the Taklon side felt great all day! So before you throw out your makeup, you might just want to try using a different brush.

Jane Iredale mineral makeup
I am 32 and have always had fairly normal skin. I had heard great things about mineral make up so wanted to try it. I bought a compact of the Jane Iredale mineral pressed powder, and was initially thrilled with the coverage and look. However after only one week of use, my skin turned dry & scaly overnight. Skin started to flake off above my eyebrows and at my temples. The skin around my eyes and eyelids turned to crepe, and went very wrinkly suddenly. There were also red itchy blotches.
I stopped using the make up and the reaction settled down after a few days. Thankfully my skin is ok again now.
I see that I am not alone in experiencing this reaction from mineral make up. The major ingredient of this make up is Mica so I suspect that is the irritant.

I can't believe it!
After a month of suffering, spending money on moisturizers, slathering hydro cortisone on my skin, I finally realize that the problem is -- bare minerals! It is so validating to know that this is not my body doing something abnormal, that there is a cause for this. I started using bare minerals in May 2007. In December 2007, I flew home to Texas (I work and live in France) and noticed that I had a red dry patch on my forehead. I thought it was because I had just changed moisturizers, to a new product from a company whose other products I had loved, Shea Terra Organics. My face continued to get drier, started flaking and I developed red patches on my cheeks. I discontinued use of the moisturizer upon returning to France in January and purchased an Eau d'Avene moisturizer and a hydro cortisone cream. It helped at first, but then the condition worsened. All this time I was still using Bare Minerals every day (I added the Mineral veil shortly after I noticed the dry patches appearing because I received it for Christmas). Today I bought a new moisturizer, Embryolisse, which French women swear by. But now the skin on my eyelids is flaky, itchy and extremely swollen. On a whim I decided to google Bare Minerals allergic reaction. Thank god I found this page! I am never using this product again. I didn't think it could be my makeup because I have been wearing it for six months or more and never had a problem, it helped initially. I hope discontinuing the use of Bare Minerals will solve my problem. I am miserable every moment of the day and cannot sleep at night because it hurts so much. Someone should take action against this company for the damage it has caused us. I never had any problems other than acne before using Bare Minerals, and now I have raw patches of skin all over my forehead and cheeks, not to mention my poor eyes. I wish you all the best of luck!

Itchy, red face
I have been using Bare Escentuals for months. I initially loved the products and have quite a collection. Just within the last week, I purchased Bare Radiance from QVC, which came in a set with other stuff. I used the Bare Radiance for 2 days my face itched like crazy and my face is bright red and burns. I was not sure at first what was causing the reaction because I had also bought some new moisturizer and facial cleansing wipes at the same time. Now I know what the problem is. I contacted BE and they e-mailed me back a list of ingredients in their products. I am convinced I am allergic to the Bismuth Oxychloride. I am assuming that the Bare Radiance must have a higher concentration of this. The eye glimmers have always made my eyelids itch when I sweat but that is the only problem I have had previously. I am ordering some samples from Everyday Mineral and LA Minerals which do not contain Bismuth Oxychloride. I am disappointed because I loved BE so much before. My mom, sisters and friends all use BE! Good luck to all of you.

L'Oreal Bare Naturale
I am so glad I found this site. I haven't used BE, but I thought I would try the L'Oreal version. My skin was never terrible but very rarely great. I too suffer from the extreme dryness and burning. I never thought it could be from my makeup which contains the same ingredients as BE, but I wont be using mineral makeup anymore!
Anyone try Clinique's new Rosacea line?

not too bad, best so far
im 16 and was first diagnosed with rosacea about 4 months ago. It was really bad at first but i went to numerous dermatologists and tried different antibiotics and face gels. It was most severe around my nose mouth and eyes. The pills took it off my eyes but even the gel and pills combined didn't lessent the redness around my nose and mouth. they promised it would be gone within the month but it has been 4 months already. i am so tired of going to school and getting weird looks from people because of the severe redness and losing hope in even products professional dermatologists give me. i know its not good to use foundation or concealer and my skin is extra sensitive but its too hard to go out with so much redness. i tried alot of foundations and cremes and now im onto bare minerals. i bought the whole startup kit for $65 and have nothing to lose because my rosacea cannot be any worse than before i used this makeup anyways. The powder is drying but you need to wear moisturizer first and use only a little bit of the foundation. it covers pretty well and rubs off easily which is much better than scrubbing my face after using liquid foundation. the brushes hairs do fall off easily and the powder does fly off sometimes when applying but its pretty easy to use and quick. ive only started using it a couple of days so i dont know what the long term effects will be but so far its been ok. i dont know what to trust anymore bc there are so many products out there and i dont want to waste my time trying every one of them but for now i will continue to use bare minerals

My poor skin!
I am SO glad I found this page listing problems with Bare Minerals.
I just started using the product and within a few days my skin was doing exactly what was described here - red bumps around my mouth, scaly bumps near my eyebrows, and scaly flaky skin where I normally have very smooth skin. I was even washing this makeup off at night which I normally never do (and I know I always should). I had recently changed several things about my beauty regimen, but I had only switched to products for sensitive skin, and yesterday it hit me that it was the Bare Minerals! I never have had acne or facial problems, although I have have excema and psoriasis in the past on my hands and arms. Hopefully this clears up quick and I won't have to go to the Dermatologist for help!

Felt like shards of glass
My rosacea is concentrated on my cheeks. I decided to try Bare Minerals thinking that perhaps it would be less harsh on my sensitive skin than liquid foundation. I was very wrong. The powder felt like shards of glass or tons of tiny papercuts across my cheeks. It's similar to how it felt when a little bit of an mica-containing eye shadow fell on my cheeks during application.
My face was bright red even after I washed off the Bare Minerals and it took about 2 days for the inflammation to calm down. I'm lucky - I only sometimes get the little bumps (just bright red across my cheeks and my nose). But, the bumps surfaced as a result of using Bare Minerals (& it took 2 days for them to go away).
It makes me laugh that Bare Minerals' marketing involves the makeup being called all-natural as if everything found in nature is benign. I now use MAC Studio pressed powder. It has never irritated my skin, even in the dead of winter.

I'm allergic too
I too have been using bare minerals for about a month now. At first I thought it was great, covering the dark circles under my eyes and such. I too had the itching but I ignored it because I loved the way it looked. The problem started when my eyelids started itching and swelling. I don't put anything on my eye lids so I still didn't make the connection. I normally have super oily skin and I was happy at first when it started to dry out a little. But today after I got out the shower I noticed that the entire area around my nose is super red and itchy, and there is a very large welt under one of my eyes. I came to the web site hoping to discover that maybe it was the brushes or something. But after reading so many stories about other people with similar experiences, I am now convinced that it is the bare minerals makeup itself. I am going to discontinue use starting today and hope that everything clears up.

My skin will never be the same
I bought bare minerals thinking it would be something good for my skin, since the infomercials repeat it over and over again how great this product is for your skin and how pure and natural it is. So I buy this product and my skin is beautiful the first couple of days but I feel it itchy and uncomfortable. I figure it is my skin adjusting to a new product. Suddenly, I break-out with bumps and redness (I have never had rosacea or acne). I change my cleanser, toner, face cream (all which I had used for years). The last thing I finally got rid of was the bare minerals. Four months later my skin was finally recovering. I saw the infomercial once again and thought that there was no way this caused me to break-out. So there I go purchasing this product again thinking it would help me recover fully. I wear it for a couple of days and on the second day my face is burning and I have bumps all over my cheeks. Finally I go online and find this website. All along bare minerals caused my skin's reaction!!! Now my skin is worst than it has ever been, bare minerals needs to stop making false claims that their product is beyond ever causing harm to anyone's skin.

I love Bare Minerals
I have never been able to wear make-up, even before Rosacea. As a kid and a teenager, I suffered from dry sensitive skin. I took a risk getting the bare minerals, knowing what make up did to my face. The the face washing to remove the make-up, that only added to the problem of sensitve skin and the on set of the Rosacea. The only way to cover the rediness in the past was to put the green cake on, then the rest. I gave up on make up 20 years ago. I tried the bare minerals, it covers the red, without a lot of work. Even just the foundation covers it. When my Rosacea flares, and I get the red bumps, I have actually used the Bare Minerals to cover and calm it down. I agree though certain shades tend to make my wrinkles look deeper, but having even facial tones is worth it. I have found that you have to play with the shades and veils to find the right combination to cover.
One thought for those who have had problems. The brushes are real hair. They should be cleaned with shampoo. Could it be the brushes causing some of the issues?

Love this makeup
I have been diaganosed with rosacea for over 20 years and live in wisconsin so also get dry scaly patches in winter. This is the only make up that has not irritated my skin since I was a teenager. cannot begin to tell you how much money I have wasted on cheap and expensive make up only to have it irritate and make my skin worse. The key to Bare Minerals is less is more. Make sure you cannot see the make up on your kabuki brush before you apply this make up. I think to many people on these posts are using WAY to much mineral veil and powder. I have had itchy spots pop up on my skin daily for 20+ years and they used to show through any make up I ever used now I feel the itchy go look in a mirror and see absolutely no redness showing through the bare minerals makeup. It is incredible. Everytime I used to feel my skin itching I used to feel embarrased and have to run to the ladies room to check out how red and blotchy my skin was very embarassing everyday, but now my skin has actually reduces the amount of itchy blotchy zits I have everyday. I absolutely love this stuff. Just remember use very little and add to it. It is not like any thing you have ever used before.
I start with a light dusting of mineral veil, use the small brush with my fairly light foundation and dab on red areas, lightly, then use the large kabuki brush with a very small amount of foundation on each side of face. Then add a very small amount of blush. Do eyes and mascara, use a base on eyes so bare minerals will stay all day, I love urban decay potion as my ey shadow base. after all finished apply a very light dusting of mineral veil. Believe me this stuff works, I first bought it at sephora in las vegas last june when it was 105 in the shade and my face was a mess. went into the store looking for some sunscreen and the salesperson recommeded the Bare Minerals, after applying it my husband told me to buy what ever I wanted the results were absolutely incredible. Just remember less is more and I think half the people on this site are using it like regular makeup like I used to and just caking it on to try and cover up the nasty red.......I would send you a before and after photo but I DONT' think I can 50 years old and finally found a make up for life.

Very upset with Bare Minerals
I am 19 and have always had near perfect skin. I have never liked using liquid foundation because it feels like it is clogging my pours. So i have always been on the look out for good makeup. I saw an ad for Bare Minerals and decided that it might be the right makeup for me. I have sensitive skin and figured this makeup would be perfect since the advertisement said it would work for ALL skin types. I absolutely loved BM the first few weeks of using it. It felt light and I knew it was good for my face(though it took a few coats to fully cover dark circles) However, I started to break out like crazy on my forehead. My chin became very dry as well as the skin by my eyes. For the longest time I wondered what could have caused this breakout. Well, I figured it must have had something to do with my birth-control. I switched to a different birth control but nothing with my skin changed. I decided then that it might have something to do with this makeup. So I quit wearing it and just to be sure that the makeup caused the breakout, I applied a VERY small amount of the foundation to my left arm. A few weeks had gone by. My face was still itching terribly and my skin on my forehead was flaking off when i itched it. I had also developed a rash on my left arm. I had completely forgotton that I had applied makeup to my arm to test it. I wondered what it was. I ruled out any sort of plant because the rash did not have any secretion nor did it spread when I itched it. I then remembered that I tested the BM on my arm and I am FURIOUS! I have had almost perfect clear skin my entire life and the reason that I bought BM was to keep it that way. BM ended up ruining my skin on my forehead, chin, and eye region. I have to lotion ALL the time just to keep it from flaking and itching. I also have to be very cautious now as to what lotion i buy for those regions of my face. I also have a small scar on my left arm where I tested the BM. I am glad that I tested it on my arm before it could have a chance to scar my face. (NOT to mention that the BM has made my skin VERY dry and feels tight.) I have not used the BM for months now and my skin is still not back to its original state. Yes. I have concluded that the breakout was from the makeup being on sensitive skin. HOWEVER, BM is advertised to work for ALL SKIN TYPES! Is it my fault for trusting a product that GAURANTEES that it will work for all skin types?! NO. I am EXTREMELY displeased! I don't recommend BM for anyone unless you are willing to risk permanent damages to your skin. I am just hoping that people read these reviews BEFORE purchasing Bare Minerals. You can always get your money back, but your skin is irreplaceable.

reaction
I work in Sephora where we sell Bare Escentuals on a constant basis to the general public, so one day I decided to try it for myself.
I used the Fairly Light foundation for all over and the bisque or summer bisque concealer for under eye and since then I have developed rash-like bumps on the outer corners of my eyes.
I was prescribed hydrocortisone cream to apply to the area and it helps but has not permanently removed it.
I am allergic to nickel so I am curious to know if there is any nickel based minerals in bare escentuals.
I have stopped using these products and found my face cleared up but I found that when I am at work and applying this product to customers that I develop the rash on my face again. I read a comment from a specialist and they said that it could be an allergic reaction either from a product or by touching the product with your hands & touching the face. This way I came to the conclusion that my rash gets worse when I am at work because I most likely touch this product and then touch my face or it is probably in the air. I would definately do an allergy test and try to see what in Bare Escentuals one would be allergic to.

The BEST Makeup!!
Ok, Everyone who has an allergic reaction to this makeup...it's not bad makeup, YOU have an allergic reaction, because YOU are allergic to an ingredient in this makeup. My mom did have an allergic reaction but she figured out it's because SHE is allergic to many things such as Nickel in her earrings or jewelery, her skin reacts to nickel, minerals, and other things. If you do not experience any allergic reaction and you like this makeup, then a helpful tip is to put on a moisturizer before applying this foundation. It wears MUCH better when you do not have dry skin!!! It really is an awesome product if you can wear it! My all time favorite foundation ever!! But I'm not a big fan of their brushes!

I want to claw my skin off
So it is the bare minerals make-up!!!! Thanks for all your reviews. I've been using this make-up for 6 months, but I don't wear make-up every day. I developed an itchy rash/hive allergic reaction on my neck about 3 weeks ago. It spread to my eyelids and the skin around my eyes. My skin was bright red, dry, and it burned and itched like crazy. I haven't worn makeup since the initial breakout because everything hurt my skin so bad. I didn't really think it was the makeup since I had been using it for so long. However, my skin looked and felt much better for the past few days and I had an awards ceremony to go to so I put on the bare minerals makeup this evening 2 hours later I am clawing at my neck and eyes already. It's definitely the makeup. I have little itchy bumps and welts all over my neck and eyelids and the skin around my eyes once again. I am throwing it all away, taking some benedryl for now and heading to the dermatologist tomorrow.

Hopefully Soon to be relieved!
I cannot believe the similiarities of the various reactions to my own. I have been suffering for 8 months now, never thinking that such a "natural" product could ever be the key to my ever painful, swollen, wrinkled, burning eyelids. I have been on waiting lists for skin specialists, on countless eye infection medications, and to no relief. I too took a chance and googled "bare essentials reaction" and got this page. I am discontinuing it today and am hoping for relief to come. I too have suffered from sever rosacea on my cheeks, and the eye pain and frustration has been excrutiating. Having an allegy to nickel as well caused me to think there may be a connection. Getting my refund tomorrow and some new make up!

Allergic Reaction
I never thought I had rosacea, but now something is definitely wrong and the only thing I can attribute it to is Bare Minerals. I was off from work for surgery and not wearing any cosmetics - just cleansing & moisturizing. Then, time to return to work and the cosmetics again --- here come the breakouts. I thought maybe my Bare Minerals was old or something so I threw it all away and went and bought a new foundation, blush, shadows, etc. My face got even worse. Then I started checking on line to see what was going on - were other people experiencing this? I happened across your sight as well as other blogs, and web sites where others were experiencing the same symptoms as me --- the burning sensation, blister-type bumps, and the cyst-like bumps. I visted a skin care specialist and she was very professional - nothing bad to say about any products. She did advise me to stop using everything and gave me a new cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. At first my skin went bonkers and I thought this has set me off too! She said to give it some time and let my skin adjust (a nice way to say detox). In a couple of days, my skin began to calm down, so I put Bare Minerals back on again. BOOM! Back to pain city! I could not wait to get home and wash it off. Now, for one week I have worn nothing but my moistuizer and mascara. The workplace does not know what to make of my look and my red scars, but happily tomorrow I will get to visit with the skin care specialist again and try Jane Iredale. Yes, it is a mineral makeup, but it does not have the irritating ingreident, Bismuth Oxychloride, that Bare Minerals does so I have my fingers crossed that this, along with skincare treatment, will help heal the damage. Everything I have researched on the web - I cannot find hardly anything negative on Jane Iredale and it is one of the few makeups approved to not irritate the skin after surigal procedures, etc. We will see! For all of you that use Bare Minerals and love it - that is GREAT! For those of you that have problems and don't know why something tauted as "good for your skin" can make it even worse or cause problems you never had --- do your research and good luck!

After 4 Months - Rash/Acne!
Please please beware of Bare Escentuals! I've been using the makeup everyday for 4 months, and finally I realized that it was causing my horrible skin problem. I honestly had nearly perfect skin before using the product, which is falsely advertised as "natural." The past 2 months, I noticed that my cheeks were inflamed, horribly dry and I started getting acne and red bumps from my cheeks down to above my mouth. A few days ago, after trying moisturizers and Vitamin E, I decided to research BE. I thought there was no way it was BE, since I'd been using it for a while. To my shock, I found blogs such as this describing damaging accounts of cystic acne, scarring, rashes, etc. I'm calling the BE store in NYC tomorrow and asking for my money back. For the girl who lost her Ford modeling contract on this blog, you should sue BE. It's just a matter of time before this company faces a class action suit! Now I'm just hoping that my skin returns to normal : ( But the good news is after much researching, I've ordered a mineral makeup that is Bismuth-free. It's called Joppa Minerals. Good luck to everyone!

BE denies bismuth allergy!
Hello. I wrote in yesterday as well. I called the BE store in NYC today and the manager was very nice. However, when I told her about my allergy to Bismuth she totally denied it! She said that was a fallacy made up by competitor cosmetic companies--I could tell she had a direct order from her superiors to deny the allergy. Anyway, she went on to say that I had a reaction to the titanium dioxide. I researched it and td rarely causes allergic reactions. It's so harmless that it's used in sunblock for babies! But the good news is I called Joppa Minerals store today and the lady was so nice. She told me that many customers have switched from BE to Joppa due to the same problems. BE better get their act together before their sued!

Other Options
I don't know if I have rosacea, but I do have sensitive skin. My eyelids started swelling and became red and scaly a few months ago, so I've had to throw out everything I used to use on my face. I bought BM b/c it was the only makeup I knew about (at the time) that didn't have all the chemicals or ingredients that could potentially irritate my skin. I didn't start using BM until my skin was pretty much back to normal (ie., clear) and when I started using it, I started breaking out again. I don't know if it's b/c of the BM or not; I might try it again after I clear up. However, the reason I'm leaving this post is to provide a few names of products that truly are natural and have helped, rather than aggravated my condition. Here's the list (starting with my favorite):
1. Green People (kanikernaturalhealth.co.uk) - I love it...I just wish I didn't have to have it sent from England. Why can't someone in the US carry it?
2. Dr. Hauschka (saffronrouge.com) - I bought some of DH's makeup. I've tried it once so far and it felt pretty good. I covered some spots and they actually got better, not worse, the next day.
3. Sukí - I haven't tried this, but I may in the future.
4. Nvey - I only bought a lip gloss. From what I read, I preferred the DH makeup.
All of these are expensive. When my eyelids started swelling 5 months ago, I stopped using makeup and knew that when I started again it was probably going to cost an arm and a leg, so I began saving. Someone told me they got DH products on ebay for $10-15 cheaper, but I haven't tried it yet. I don't understand why all makeup companies don't stop using harmful ingredients. If I hadn't been so naďve before (thinking the FDA would never allow harmful ingredients) and I had known what I was putting on my skin, I would have never done it.
I hope this helps someone. Please do your own research first. I only know what has worked for me, and I wouldn't want to make anyone's condition worse.

eyelid pain
I have been using BE for about 3 years now with no problem. I pretty much use only BE. Something strange happened within the last 3 weeks. I purchased a new "awake" and some new mineral veil and some new BE eye shadows. I asked my sister in law (she's a makeup artist) about how I could keep the eye color from creasing, fading etc. She told me to apply a little bit of foundation to the lid first. So I started doing that. Big, big, big mistake. Both of my eyelids are very red, moreso in the crease and actually are painful. I can't even touch them. I do wear contacts and now I'm wearing my glasses. The eyelid skin is peeling as well. I'm an RN and asked one of the doc's I work with about this. They told me to try some topical antibiotic oinment followed by hydrocortisone cream for a week each. I was also adivsed to throw away any and all eye makeup and even my brushes. I really am pissed at the fact that I spent like $70.00 on the eye makeup. I'm wondering if it's just the base reacting with the eyeshadow. I didn't have this problem when I used no foundation powder on my lids first. I'm going to clean my brushes really well today. The thought of throwing them away makes me sick. Any suggestions?

Soothes skin
I've been having some serious flare ups lately, primarily in my cheek area. They are very red and feel extremely dry (scaly) and tight. The Bare Minerals not only covers up the redness, but it also seems to have a soothing effect. The only thing I dislikeit is having to remove it, as anytime I wash my face now, my skin reacts horribly.

BM Should Come w/ WarningLABEL
I bought BM an used it every other day for a while (I don't wear make up much), then gradually started using it daily. When i started using it I did notice that when I got hot my face would itch terribly. I hoped it was just the heat and humidity. After I started using it more (due to the breakout that i had), I found it itched more and more. When I would wash my face at night (take off the makeup) I could see hundreds of tiny little bumps around my jaw line and on my cheeks, behind and in my ears! I did some research and found it was the Bismuth Oxychloride in this product that causes break out in sensitive or fair skin. Today (two days after using BM) My face is red swolen and is covered in bumps along my jawline and on my cheeks, but it is better than yesterday. [I use proactiv cleanser and toner. I have NOT been diagnosed w/ Rosacea so I dont know if that would work for anyone else here]. Save your money, it's not worth all this pain and embarrassment!!

maybe help is here!
Try healing your body from the inside out. A respected nurse may have what you're looking for. Judy Dodson- my mother- a BSN/RN has been working with all kinds of disorders for several years now, and I was suffering from an auto immune disease which landed me in the hospital numerous times... 5 times in 15 months!!! Since she put me on the glyconutrient treatments, I've been free! Who knows. I know it can help rosacea also. Shoot her an e-mail at judyunlim@aol.com---- please put 'rosacea' in the subject line.

My first breakout
I have never had pimples even at puberty. One of my friends recommended BM and I bought it. Then I strated getting pimple like bumps. I did not associate the make up with the pimples, used more to cover up! Now my pre rosecea have become Type 2.
I guess this make up brand works for some but it ruined my face.
Buyer be aware.

itch eyes
I am so glad that I found this site. I bought my bare essential products and have been using them for about a month. My sister loves it and is willing to do sales for the company. I do love the outcome of the makeup. It looks nice and fresh and the eye powder is awesome; stays on all day.
But in much disappointment I think after reading all the articles today I think I'm gonna have to forfeit it all. And I'm not so sure I want to give it away.
My eyes started itching and is in horrible shape right now. I had a small little bump or cyst come up in the corner of my eye. Then days later my eyes became very aggitated with itching, redness;almost like an allergic reaction. I thought it was due to the environment like ragweed or just dust in the air.
I like one lady have tried hot cloths on my eyes. I am taking benadryle and irrigating my eyes with washout and drops for allergies. If I do not find relief by the first of the week I will be making an appointment with the eye specialist.
Oh I do not and have not ever had rosacea. This is just a response to all the complications to bare essentials
Thanks to all of you for your comments.

Use with caution...
I used Bare Minerals for about three years. Over the course of the last year I noticed my skin was looking dryer and more creased. And my cheeks were getting thick and developing cyst like pimples. I read some reviews on here and realized it was the makeup. I quit using it and the thick skin and cysts have gone away. I don't usually have sensitivity so much with my rosacea, it's here or it's in remission, but this is the first product I ever used that made it worse over time.

Wonderful Product
I have rosacea and, I have extremely sensitive skin. I cannot even use bar soap because it breaks me out. I am also allergic to all forms of grass and flowers. :) I recently got married and had to have artificial flowers so I would not have a reaction to the real ones. Well guess what, I was allergic to the fake ones too!!
Anyway, I love bare minerals. I have been using it for 2 months now and do not have any problems with it. I have dry skin but an oily T-zone area. I do use a wonderful moisturizer and primer before using my makeup and I use a purifying foaming cleanser on my face.
I do not have any sensitivity problems with bare minerals at all. No breakouts and my rosacea looks better. I cannot wait to go back to my dermatologists so he can see how much better my rosacea is. Also, my dermatologists prescribed that ointment for rosacea (I can't remember the name) and I was allergic to it too.
I would suggest anyone who would like to use bare minerals that has sensitive skin to not put the makepu all over their face but instead to test an area of their face instead. This way they will not breakout every where on the face if they are allergic to it.

Reaction of Bare Mineral
I had the store beauticians apply BareMineral makeup on my face. It was okay while I was in Air Conditioning. As soon as I was outside in the heat I started to notice that parts of my face started to itch. I washed it all off as soon as I arrived home directly from the mall. I then researched online to find out more about any potential reaction from its former customers. I am glad that I have because the unopened makeup kit and additional items that I purchased will be returned tomorrow. I have no current issue with my skin and wouldn't like to start one. Thank you all for being honest and providing your experience with the rest of the world.

Very Dissapointed
I've been using Bare Essentials for a couple of months. I recently noticed tiny little white bumps around my eyes and cheeks. I thought I would do a search and found this website. I'm going to quit using the Bare Essentials and see if it clears up. I'm very dissapointed in this product

Not rosacea but psoriasis
I won't take up much of anyone's time. I do not have rosacea but I do have psoriasis. I'm writing because I don't want people to think that the people who make Bare Minerals are lying to you. I have moderate psoriasis over about 25% of my body. This includes 3 annoying patches on my face, on my ears, hairline and eyebrows. Bare Minerals works wonders for me. It doesn't just cover it, it helps with the healing. After not using makeup for a few days, the patches come back, but within 2 days of using again, my skin is clearer. I am sorry it is not working for everyone, but Bare Minerals does work for some of us.

No rosacea before using BM
I first discovered Bare Minerals through my mother and bought some at Sephora on a trip to NY in October 2006. At first, it made my skin look amazing. It looked perfectly clear and everyone was complimenting me. I was really pleased with the result and swore by mineral make up as it was natural, great for my skin and looked fantastic.
I continued using various brands of mineral make up for the next year or so. Then in January 2008, I woke up one morning with an extremely swollen face as if I had been stung by a gigantic wasp! I didn't even look like me. My eyelids were swollen and I looked like I'd been in a boxing match. I went to my doctor and she had no idea what was the cause. My face went down again but it happened again a month later. All the while this was happening, I was reviewing all of my beauty products and my diet but I was continuing to use the same mineral make up as I was convinced it was fine. Over the next few months, the red face turned into flaking skin around my eyebrows and hairline and red spots on my chin/sides of my nose and forehead.
Emotionally I was falling apart because I was due to get married in August and my face had turned into a complete wreck. I went from having fairly clear skin with the odd bump and zit to having red pustules and flakiness.
In June 2008, I went to see a dermatologist who confirmed that I had rosacea and prescribed a 6 week course of antibiotics (tetracycline)and topical steroids. Of course, within days, my skin had cleared up. However, as soon as I finished the course of antibiotics, the spots and all symptoms returned worse than before. I went back to the dermatologist and she prescribed more antibiotics. I started that course and my skin calmed down again.
In the meantime, I found this forum and began having doubts about bare minerals and what it might be doing to my skin. Just to be certain, I stopped using it. We got married in early August and my skin was fine because I was on the antibiotics. I decided, for once, to listen to my lovely husband and stopped using almost all beauty products, came off the antibiotics and started taking probiotic tablets.
I waited for a massive breakout and nothing happened. My skin remained fine. Not as perfect as when I was on steroids and antibiotics but it wasn't red and there were only a few not very noticeable spots.
I can't say for sure that my rosacea was caused by bare minerals only but i certainly would never use it again. I now use Shu Uemura Depsea with SPF15 in the morning, rinse with water before bed and sometimes put a bit of bobyshop coconut body balm on before bed. Nothing else except a bit of Guerlain bronzer.
I don't usually write on this forums but I was so miserable, I thought this might help others.

Red Nose
I bought Bare Minerals and the first time I used it my face started to burn, turn red and by the end of the day my face was unusually red. What's worse is that my nose turned red and stayed that way for weeks. Forgetting about this later and rushing to attend a meeting, I used it again and the same thing happened! I don't break out but my face turns a noticable blotchy red. Then there goes the nose. I look like an alcoholic with this stuff! Too much money thrown down the drain. Cheapo makeup worked better than this expensive useless stuff. Is there any way to get my money back? Also, I am a really clean neat person and this stuff makes a mess if you aren't really careful. The three times I used it I had to put it on leaning over the bathtub. I can only imagine how others bathrooms look!

Itchy Face!
After reading these comments, I believe I have found the reason why my face has recently been itching like crazy! I stopped using Bare Minerals (and it's cousin, ColoreScience) make-up for just one day and I feel relief already. I've been on meds for perioral dermititis (PD) since before using bare minerals -- and had I not been -- I suspect that I would have had additional issues like some of you have shared. If you do break out in a rash with small bumps around the mouth, nose, chin - it is likely PD. Do see a dermatologist and get Metrogel and a tetracycline to reduce the inflammation. Some doctors are not familiar with PD and will misdiagnose it -- as they did with me twice before I saw someone who pinpointed it. Don't let a doctor convince you that you have a cold sore or a fungus, especially if you have no history of them. It's PD. One thing I did learn about PD, and which may have started mine, is that I had switched toothpaste to one that has a whitner in it with SLS as an active ingredient. SLS is also a major skin irritant and it's found in almost all soaps, shampoos, cleansers, and whitening toothpaste.
The Barium Chloride in both Bare Minerals and in ColoreScience (probably in other mineral makeups too) may be the cause of the irritation for those of us with ultra sensitive skin. Barium Chloride is used in the pigment and pesticide manufacturing process as well as in treating even waste water! This is why it is listed as a toxic substance and skin irritant.
If anyone who can't use Bare Minerals or ColoreScience does come across a non-irritating make-up, please post it here!

Thanks for the burning!
This stuff gets hyped like it's the Holy Grail, and I was soooo excited to finally try it. What a disappointment. Like others have said, it only looks good from far away. When you're close up your face looks like it's caked with powder (which it is.) It magnified every little hair and bump and made my skin look terrible. The very first time I used it my cheeks started to itch and sting, and it lasted for hours. Stay away.

so happy that i'm not alone
I got bare minerals as a gift last december. I don't usually wear makeup unless I'm going out for happy hour or on the weekend so I only use this maybe 1-2 times a week. I've just realized that all my skin problems are a result of this foresaken makeup. If I could curse about this product on line I would. I realized that my burning eyes and itchy skin and bumps (not like white heads or black heads) are all a result of this make up and not because of my period or winter or humidity, etc. I'm 35 and I figured that my skin was just going downhill or that I had even developed rosacea or something. I'm so happy that all these reviews finally opened my eyes. Oh and I can top spending hundreds of dollars on skin cleaners, etc because that is obviously not the problem. This stuff should be banned.

bismuth oxychloride
It's true this stuff is in most mineral make-up. I have mild rosacea and Bare Escentuals gave me cystic acne. I am getting laser treatment for it now. I will be trying out afterglow as it is a mineral without the irritant.

Not for me...
I was so hopeful that I found my miracle! I had good skin with just a touch of blush to my face until I had my daughter. I was recently diagnosed with POS and medicine has helped to keep the 'I am not going outside days' away, but I still have itchy dry spots and inflammation. I was hoping this would work, it did for all those people on the commercials. I should have known better, as the makeup artist tried it on me, I wanted to cry in the chair. It looked blotchy over dry spots and bumps. She said this wouldnt work for my skin. No luck. My dream is to come up with an affordable makeup for people like us that have to suffer from this. Until I hit oil, lol, Revlon is the best I have found so far. I have tried very expensive makeups, with itchy results. Revlon has worked well.

Finally I figured it out
I tried bareMinerals because my family raved about it. It sounded good for my sensitive skin. Over time I noticed my skin was developing a red rash and my skin would itch. I changed my lotion, soap, but kept using bareMinerals. After finding this website, I stop using the product and my face is improving. I am going back to my old foundation from Walgreens. I was so upset, my face started to look like a monster. Do not use this product if you have sensitive skin.

NOW I KNOW! PLEASE READ
Okay, so I wrote a review on how bad the coverage was. My sisters, 'the 3 with the perfect don't need any makeup skin', swear by the product. It works for them! Well my sister did not want the bronzer, thinking hmm this will be great, I accepted the gift. It looked great over my makeup, I loved it.... UNTIL, I broke out really, really bad. I was scratching my skin up at night it itched so bad! I changed my face soap, clothes soap, everything! I never had it bad on my forehead or lower face! Then I read through the reviews. There is a rosacea irritant in it. I stopped the bronzer to see if it would help, and my rosacea is not inflammed, no more forehead and lower face problem! My sisters LOOOVE it, but just not for rosacea... Still looking for my miracle! Thank you to everyone who left reviews, I would have never thought the bronzer.

Bare Minerals-no more
I have been using Bare Minerals for about 4 months now. I am 47 and have not had breaks outs since my 20`s. For the last 4 months I have been getting clusters of tiny water pimples around my mouth and chin. Some days I can even feel them rising to the skin and then they start iching. I really like the make-up and kept thinking it must be something else. Even thought it was my toothpaste. But now I know...time to trash it!

USED CORRECTLY-THE BEST
I've tried lots of different products and had to work with this one but it's the best. The trick is to use sparingly and use a GOOD MAKEUP BRUSH!! CAN'T STRESS THAT ENOUGH. A cheap brush will just irritate your skin. Also, a VERY knowledgeable make-up consultant at Sephora told me to use a different color on the break-out area as a concealer and then another color all over. WORKED LIKE A DREAM!!!

Stung my face like 1M bees!
Let me add my BMinerals experience into the lot. Purchased the Basic Kit a year or so ago. The first time I tried my face looked flawless in the mirror, so of course I was pleased. Within 5 minutes of leaving the house, my face began to sting a little here and there. I started to get a little nervous about all this "earth dirt" I just put on my face. By the time I was at my destination my face was on F-I-R-E with the stinging! Oh dear God, I wanted to claw my face off, I actually went in to the restaurant bathroom several times and patted away as much as I could without making my face redder with the pressure. I was miserable.
I have tried to salvage the money spent on the kit by using only part of the products, in conjunction with other makeup (i.e. using my normal foundation and then using some of their powder as a coverup here and there). Does NOT work. Anywhere there is a hint of this powder on my face, it will sting and I will be in agony until it is completely removed off of my skin.
THEN I have to worry about how long my skin will stay red and puffy; will it break out from the stress? etc.
I was going to give the kit to my younger sister, but she tried it one day and had the same stinging sensation....odd. I'm giving it a ONE, because I DO know women that use it with no problem, though.

Great Product but High Price
I tried this product for a couple months and LOVED it. It provided great, extremely natural-looking coverage while making me feel as though I was wearing no makeup at all. Additionally, it takes only minutes to apply, lasts and washes off quite easily compared to some other products that provide such coverage. The reason I stopped using it is because its cost, while not outrageous, is currently beyond my budget. Once I can afford it, I will definitely start using it again!

Itchy face,small bumps on nose
I have used this product for about a year. At first I thought it was great. About 5 months ago, I started itching around the perimeter of my face. I also started breaking out around the nose area and getting red cheeks. I went to the dermatoligist and he said that I had mild rosacea and prescribed tetracycline and metrogel 1%. I did not receive any relief. Now after reading all these reviews I will throw away all the brushes and makeup. I used Laura Mercier for years and never had any problems!!!

Never any skin problems before
Before using BareMinerals my skin was CLEAR. I always had compliments on how pretty my skin was. I tried BareMinerals and liked it at the beginning, but as the months wore on, I started seeing small red bumps around my nose that would crust and scale. I applied more to cover it, and the problem became worse and worse. The rash spread to my forehead and peri-orbital area. I then began to question the make-up. I had given my mom the BareMinerals as a gift, and she too started having skin problems (she had none prior either). That's when I was certain it was the make-up. After many, many creams from the dermatologist (none of which fully cleared it), I finally broke down and bought some ProActive, which cleared it in around two weeks. I still use it, and if I stop, the rash begins to come back. I will NEVER use mineral make-up again. This information should be more publicly know.

I Love this Product
I am a little surprised at all the negative reviews. I have had trouble with my skin all my life - acne in my teen years (required oral antibiotics and tons of topical lotions, creams etc...), and when i turned 30 i was diagnosed with both occular and dermal rosacea. (by the way, there were a lot of people on the reviews here that stated they "never had rosacea before" - FYI most women are diagnosed with rosacea from age 25 to age 45) I had to stop wearing not only my regular foundation & concealer, but eye makeup and hairspray - have a HUGE reaction on my eyelids due to the occular rosacea. it was a crushing blow to my self esteem. When my rosacea was under control enough to start wearing some kind of foundation to mask the redness, i tried everything. I saw the infomercial for BE, and knew that there was a local boutique in my area. Instead of buying the starter kit first, i went to the boutique and had them apply the foundation, warmth and mineral veil products to see how they would affect my skin. I was lucky enough to have this be the solution for me. I have combination skin, and always start my makeup with a non-comedegenic moisturizer, then apply the mineral makeup. i have even been able to use their mascara products - which is nice on the days i have a dressy occasion. i don't have any luck with the eyeshadows, as my eye doctor recomends a cream shadow that won't "flake" into the eye.
any type of makeup can cause a reaction in some people, and be benign in others. unfortunately for people with rosacea, most things including makeup are found by trial and error. I recomend Bare Minerals to everyone i know, and have friends and family all over the country (with and without rosacea) that use it with great success. If it triggers your rosacea, then by all means, stop using it. my dermotologist actually recommends it for his patients on a regular basis, and never once mentioned the possible alergic reaction referred to in some of the above reviews. It works for me - i feel great about the way my skin looks and feels, and also agree with one of the earlier reviews that i think this makeup has actually helped the rosacea and minimized my flare ups.

IMPORTANT
I've been reading the reviews for Bare Minerals and I wanted to post this review. Bare minerals contains an ingredient called "bismuth oxychloride." This ingredient can cause irritation in those with sensitive skin. For me, and some others I've read about online, it can even cause burning or itching, such as when your face perspires. HOWEVER, there is a much cheaper mineral makeup, EVERYDAY MINERALS, that only has FOUR ingredients as opposed to the five in Bare Minerals. And you guessed it - the one that's missing is Bismuth Oxychloride. I've been using Everyday Minerals for a couple of years now, and my mother (who also has rosacea) and my grandmother are now converts. Within the first few weeks I could tell a difference in my skin as opposed to previous makeups. I just had to post this message for those who have posted reviews remarking that they are having burning/itching with Bare Minerals, and other skin irritations. Please try Everyday Minerals and see what you think. They have free sample kits if you just pay shipping, too. They only sell through salons and on their website everydayminerals.com. And it is MUCH cheaper than Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals!

Eye Problems
I have used this product for over a year. I get compliments on my 54 year old skin. Recently my left eye started burning and became red. Then it moved to the other eye and they were both blood red and itchy. Doctor treated me for pink eye but it didn't clear up. After almost 3 months and 6 eye doctor appointments, along with many different eye drops, my eyes still feel swollen and tired. Doctor recommended no makeup for a few days because I am allergic to nickel. I stopped using BE 3 days ago but haven't seen a difference yet. After reading these comments, I believe it probably is the BE. I'm very upset about not using it ever again because I LOVE it, but this eye condition is very scary so I will not be using it anymore. I can't tell a difference yet, but I'm hoping that the makeup was the problem. The eye doctor seems to think so since after so many tests and medications, nothing has helped. Good luck to all!

OMG WARNING
Stay away from this product if you have rosacea. It contains bismuth oxychloride and it WILL make your rosacea flare up for weeks and months after use. It took my a awhile to realize it was the powder, but I realized it was the makeup because when I finally stopped using it, the flare ups stopped. Sadly, after the flare ups began with this product, I began showing sensitivity to other products I had never shown sensitivity to, and eventually my dermatologist diagnosed me with rosacea. Stay far far away from this line. I now use the Jane Iredale line and I've never had a reaction in over 1 year of use. I learned of the line at my dermatologists office. Good luck to you all my fellow rosaceans.

Fight vs acne after BM
Im' 38 years old and bought BM during my holiday on september in Naples. When i came back in Guadeloupe FWI, i started to have some breakouts after three week weeks of using BM. Now i'm under accutane because after a month of erythomicyne and tetralysal 500mg didn't work out. I've got a black skin, so now i'm full of scars and still have cystic acne. My skin was really beautiful before i've used BM. My treatment costs a lot of money and it's really an expensive cost for only 60 dollars of makeup. They should warned people with sensitive skin, i wouldn't have used it.

Rosacea Subtypes
Subtype 1: Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea
characterized by flushing and persistent redness, and may also include visible blood vessels.
Subtype 2: Papulopustular rosacea
characterized by persistent redness with transient bumps and pimples.
Subtype 3: Phymatous rosacea
characterized by skin thickening, often resulting in an enlargement of the nose from excess tissue.
Subtype 4: Ocular rosacea
characterized by ocular manifestations such as dry eye, tearing and burning, swollen eyelids,
recurrent styes and potential vision loss from corneal damage.
Rosacea Stages
Pre-Rosacea
the first cardinal sign of rosacea: blood vessels dilate to more stimuli, open wider and stay open for longer periods of time compared to normal
persons. No visible damage can normally be seen.
Mild Rosacea
begins when the facial redness induced by flushing persists for an abnormal length of time - usually 1/2 an hour or more after a trigger. Those who
have frequent pre-rosacea flushing are highly susceptible to progressing to mild rosacea. Some of the common triggers for a facial flush are heat,
cold, emotions, exercise, topical irritants and allergic reactions.
Moderate Rosacea
as facial flushing becomes more frequent and intense, vascular damage occurs. This can result in long lasting redness, swelling and inflammatory
papules and pustules. Telangiectasia (damaged micro blood vessels, often visible on the surface of the skin) may be noticed in the areas where
flushing is worst.
Severe Rosacaea
characterised by intense bouts of facial flushing, severe inflammation, facial pain, swelling and burning sensations. Sufferers may develop
intolerance to products they were able to use before. Also inflammatory papules, pustules and nodules may be present. Some experience a bulbous
enlargement of the nose, known as rhinophyma. This is just a guide, you may of course experience symptoms outside these ranges.
