Default 35 days post laser, can I start 5 mg accutane..

I wnat to start 5 mg accutane 2 times a week, maybe even 3 but def no more than that. I have the accutane and I'm ready, but it's only been 35 days since my last laser treatment. I gues I still have to wiat it out another two months before I can start, even at this low of a dose? Are the chances of taking it now truly detrimental to my rosacea? Thanks. -Chris

You'd have to make that appraisal yourself. It depends on how aggressive the treatment was, how you're healing, etc. You do get a window of caution from standard recommendations--though I'd rather have a derm/doc that was very knowledgeable about rosacea, someone that would understand a very frank assessment of the patient's rosacea condition.

But, then, why are you so rushed to start accutane? Especially at that low of a dose? Is there any clear benefit to starting now rather than waiting another month or two? Low-dose accutane is not a miracle cure. It's a cumulative thing. 8)

Best,

David

hey dave, I know it sounds crazy, I guess I'm in a rush because when I took accutane in May 2005, my ocular inflammation went down significantly and my eyes were as white as a person without rosacea. I never tried taking just 5 mg twice a week and i figured it wouldn't take very long for it to have an affect on my eyes. I started on 20 mg every other day last year & after 7 days, my eyes were clear. They became too dry with continued use, even when I went down to 10 mg twice a week, but maybe if I started with the 5 mg 2X weekly, it would be the perfect amount to act as a strong anti-inflammatory and get my eyes back to normal again without drying them out. My meibomian glands are so clogged all the time, even after doing compresses and after my eye doctor drians them with his special massages. Accutane would hopefully normalize the constant oil discharge from these glands, decrease my eyelid inflammation (they're dark red from my blepharitis), and make my eyes white. That is my goal. Thanks. -Chris

I thought I remember a couple laser docs saying something like waiting atleast 2 months after laser treatment for the Accutane. Can't remember where I saw it though... i'll see if I can find it somewhere.

Chris, how'd the laser treatments turn out?

Think I've heard 2-3 months as well, mainly because the skin and vascular structure are still healing and accutane slows down or impedes healing.
