Hi Ronnie,
can i ask if you had any other symptoms beside redness like sensitive skin or swelling? if so - did they improve?
just curious if MII only masked redness or had other beneficial effects as well.

im not sure if this stuff can treat rosacea but a nice tan can certainly thicken the epidermis and improve your tolerance to heat and sun exposure. its no coincidence that only white people seem to get rosacea.

Hi Max,
I think a card is an excellent idea (with this forums url) for all who are reading this and want to help. I had the laser light office send a well respected professor/friend I know who has/had rosacea a card when I started treatment there, but I don't know if she ever responded. I see her once in a while, and I know she's also drinks everyday and I believe it exasperbates her rosacea, but she has it in her "T-Zone", and sometimes she looks really good, and sometimes not (I think she wears foundation to hide it to though.
I have shared my Melanotan II finding with one friend, neighbor, but he doesn't haven't rosacea, he was just super white/fair skinned like me. He has had excellent results and is as tan as me now and is definitely meeting girls this summer in San Diego and is to say the least overjoyed as I am with my results.
In regards to just masking my rosacea or actually curing (reducing it), heres my subjective belief from looking in the mirror: I believe the Melanotan II has somehow caused the red to go away. I've gotten a suntan too now though, so perhaps I either don't notice the red, or its hidden under my tan? I just know my blue eyes stand out a heck of a lot bluer looking in the mirror right now with my tan, and I have never gotten so many smiles reguarly from girls in my life!
Ronnie

Well, naturally we would all love a cure. But we also have to accept reality...I dont think we should expect Melanotan to necessarily help the root cause, but if it can help the overall appearance of rosacea that certainly would help. If it helps the root cause great, but it doesnt really need to for it to still be of benefit to rosaceans.
Guys really dont want to wear makeup so we generally just have to go with what we have. Melanotan could be an effective way for us to make any redness. Granted, you still need to continue to treat the root cause...but lets not get too far ahead of ourselves and expect anymore from it at this point.
I have been watching the progress of this for many years and read the boards a little, but was shyed away from reports by others that it actually increases flushing. I remember there was a mention of this in the initial studies, but I believe they found a lowered dosage was still effective and did not as much problem with flushing.

Interesting observation that I didn't consider/overlooked in regards to its relationship to rosacea (initial flushing).
When I did my first injection I did get some flushing (I felt it some but didn't notice it on my face or body) , as well as a little bit of quessiness. However, the flushing went away within an hour or two, and the quesiness ended by the next day. The pinkness in my skin now is gone though. Here's how I most notice it: When I push on my skin, I use to be left with red marks where I pushed. Now, my skin color (even on my inner thigh area where no sun exposure is) remains a more neutral/ more like a natural fitzpatrick type 3 would be color. On my arms and face , I am Brown and not orangey like I was with some sunless tanners, and it doesn't wash off and need constant reapplying.
The makeup(natural colored foundation that my hair stylist recommended) and sunless tanner lotions (stinky and stained my pillow/clothes) were not good on my psyche, and I was embarassed on two occasions when I was asked why I wore it.... Both times are seared in my memory. I know my family knew I wore it, but never asked me about it.
I've been through the gamut of emotions with my rosacea. I know I'm not alone on this board in feeling that way. It made me wish I was born another nationality, although I know I wouldn't be the smae person that I am otherwise.

I know you have to maintain it so how much you inject for maintenance / day and how much it costs total per month ? How much is 10mg melanotan II from your supplier?

I'm curious to know what is the legal status of a product that is not yet FDA approved. Does this mean all the suppliers are outside of the US, and that it has been approved other places? Or does this mean that data from clinical trials is not yet in, so we don't really know much about safety and side effects, etc? A search of melanotan II on Medline brings up lots of mouse & rat studies, some human also, and it seems to have potent effects on eating and drinking habits and sexuality as well as tanning, and affects people with different genetic variants of the receptor for this substance differently.
Perhaps short term studies have shown lots of benefits, but I don't think long term human studies have been reported, so we don't know what will happen 10 or 20 years down the road. Something that is affecting this many different aspects of our physiology is sure to have consequences beyond a nice tan and less apparent rosacea!

there are two types - melanotan (CUV1647 ) and melanotan II. CUV1647 is the one that will be brought to market. It doesn't have the libido-enhancing effects of melanotan II though does produce a tan faster.
(Actually there is a third drug but I don't know much about it - you can also find out about it from the M forum).
neither of the melanotan variants are illegal as they are just peptides.

Safety is certainly a concern, I thought I remember there being serious side effects of an early tanning product, even death? About 10-15 years ago I saw a show where a guy did this in a clinical test and it worked beautifully but there may have been problems.
However, this is undergoing trials and there are people on the board using it safely. As far as 10-20 years down the road, do we even know that for many drugs? Does the FDA hold them to wait for 10-20 results??? I am not saying we all should try this, but if you can gather enough info you could consider it. I personally will likely wait for FDA approval, also in part for hope of a better delivery system than injection.
