There are pretty reasonable grounds for taking D3 for your overall health.
Rosacea skin is naturally volatile, prone to fluctuations.

One approach might be to continue taking it while (so long as your skin does nothing extraordinary) not taking too much notice of subtle changes in your condition.

A year down the line it might have helped your rosacea and certainly you will have done no harm to your general health.

And it's the best defense against viruses, like flu... ! (I mean it boosts the immune-system)

Hi mistica,

No side effects from D3 that I can tell.

No special diet although I try to eat pretty healthy and usually do.

No meds yet, though I am going to start an SSRI soon to see if that will help with flushing. I hear quite a few people have some success with them. also I have Clonidine but by itself it doesnt seem to do much for me.

Maybe with an SSRI it will.

I am starting to doubt D3 but will keep using just to see if I notice any change in the coming months.

Two months isn't very long. It takes much longer than that to see improvements. I also wonder if the high dose you are taking is masking any at this stage. However if you are not experiencing any side effects, then I guess it is ok to continue.
Are you supplementing with magnesium and/or zinc? Vitamin D requires these to work properly. I was deficient in zinc and even now, I am only just within range, so I recently added in a zinc tablet. I have been taking magnesium for years.
You could try this as well, but watch for side effects. Trent just experienced these with the addition of Magnesium.

My personal update is as follows:

Flushing is vastly improved at the moment. The last two days have been great! Actually the last two mornings I got up, my face was very calm and it was nice not to see and feel my nose redden further and inflate. I have even had the air con off, and windows open for a portion of the day and have been managing temps of 26+C. Normally I can't tolerate anything above 23C. I have to make sure the house is cool by 4:30pm though, othewise I will flush. Nights have to be very cool. Still, it is an improvement.

On the downside ( there always has to be one, <sigh>).
I am getting a return of P&P's, mostly under the eyes and today on the nose. Bad areas to get them.
I feel this is due to the fact I stopped Vitex ( herbal supplment) last month.
On a good note, I feel lack of vitex has reducing my flushing, but the pay off is more P&P's. Not sure what I am going to do at this stage. I could try looking for a lower dose, but if it is too low, it is said to have the opposite effect to what is desired.

I am now taking 8400IU of D3,+ Zinc ( new addition), Magnesium and multi's ( long term use).

Visible capillaries on my chin are worse and will be worse still after this current bout of P&P's.

My next report will no doubt be one of woe, which reflects the rocky ride of vitamin D3.
Boring to read for some, but helpful to those sitting at home, looking on the net trying to find someone who they can relate to.

Lol Mistica!

Glad you're doing better! The extra P&P's will pass too...

Hang in there...

Hi Dan,

I have been without significant P&P's for so long, I can't help but attribute their return to my stopping Vitex ( herbal supplement used for acne and pms).

I have to ask though, did you have a sudden return of them during your recovery?

Hi Mistica,

I certainly have experienced this for periods of time during treatment, first while on the antibiotics, then while later increasing Vit D. Generally, it passed after a few weeks after holding all things steady.

It's hard to tell since you're dropping off other things (which I generally think is a good idea since so many of these anti-inflammatory herbs and drugs interfere with the immune response), but that zinc you've added in could be stirring things up a bit as well. If it's not too bad, just hang at this level and wait for this to pass. You can always drop back a bit though if necessary...

Hang in there...

Thanks Matt.
All I can do is hope.
My face has settled down again. Well, compared to what it was. Strange, seeing I recently increased the D3 dose and added in zinc.
I do feel a bit unwell today. Last night I developed a sore left tonsil and this morning it is swollen and a bit painful. Got the earache to go with it. Something new I guess.
Mild flu feeling has returned, but the face is holding up, so I am pleased.

Keeping my fingers crossed that all continues to go well as I booked my flights today and they cost a small fortune. Leaving mid December. If I have to postpone, there goes another $100+.

All I have to do now is complete the paperwork allowing me to fly and to take my icepacks and icecubes aboard.
