Default Can topical prescription creams expire?

Hi everyone,

I know that this might be a REALLY stupid question, but hear me out.

About 2 years ago, I finally went to a dermatologist and one of the things he gave me was the Rosaderm Cleanser (Sodium Sulfacetamide 10% and Sulfur 5%). I kind of remember it helping a little, but, foolishly, I stopped applying it and stopped taking the oral medication as well.

Now 2 years later, I'm still pretty frustrated about my face. Would the cleanser still be okay to use? Is it expired now? The cream is now a dark tan-ish color, and I swear I remember it being lighter - like beige.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi,
Definitely has an expiration date where beyond that it can best case scenario be less effective and worst case scenario be harmful so I recommend if it changed color/consistency not to use it. Alternatively, check with your pharmacist as they can be a huge help regarding these questions.

Best wishes,
Melissa

All cleansing products, moisturisers, make-up etc. have a shelf life, especially once opened. If there is not an actual date, it is sometimes indicated on the container with a little open jar symbol with a figure in it, eg. 12 or 24, meaning 12 or 24 months once opened, so you could check for that. But yep if it has changed colour or smell, throw it out.
