Hi Frustrating,
Sorry to hear you have had no success with topicals.
Unfortunately that is not uncommon as many of us cannot tolerate topicals but you have not yet exhausted the myriad of topicals that exist so don't despair.

What are the rosacea symptoms you are targeting with the topicals? Mainly they are most successful for papules/pustules and less so for redness (except redness associated with the p&p's) and flushing and burning.

Depending on your skin type and symptoms there are a number of topicals available to try and it is best to try one at a time for a couple of months (as long as you are not experiencing any adverse reaction) to see if it is effective. A few topicals you have not tried yet are Noritate, Finacea, Metros (lotion, cream, gel) etc.

This link may be helpful:

Remember to do a patch test with any topical before applying to your whole face.

Best wishes,
Melissa

Hi -

I notice you are on Minocycline - are your concerns more with acne or papules primarily? Based on what Derm's have said, Minocycline is usually the first choice for acne/papules (though it can make the skin a little dry). Wheras, Doxycline generally is prescribed for minor acne/papules - it also helps to lessens inflammation or redness slightly.

I have mild acne on my jawline and mild Rosacea on my cheeks, forehead, and nose. Topicals that work well for me is prescription Clindamycin - I use Evoclin foam. Clindamycin also comes in a solution (like a toner), a gel, and a lotion. The foam and solution are great as they are absorbed easily (but do contain a little alcohol in the formulaation) and moisteriser can be applied afterward. They are good for normal-combination to oily skin. Again, the foam is great - it's like a lite mouse. The lotion is more emolient - more for normal to dry skin. I use Evoclin mostly in the morning after cleansing. At night, I use Ziana, 1.2% clindamycin and .025% retinoid. I use only 2 times a week (always skipping a night). It lessens inflammation and also keeps my acne in check. On other nights, I use a light serum or moisteriser only. I've tried lots of topicals as well, Metrogel, Noritate, Differin, Renova, Atralin, Nizoral lotion, etc. I've found Evoclin and Ziana to be fairly gentle and very effective for me. I use very gentle cleansers (and without SLS - sodium lauryl or laureth sulfate).

Feel free to ask your Derm. if you can try samples of other topicals. It can be a bit frustrating finding which work for you as is finding other skin care. Trial and error.

Good luck and let us know if you have more questions. Please keep us posted.

hi sorry for the late response , my problem consists of mainly a redness on the cheeks particularly one side ,there is a little SLIGHT hint of papules but the first time i was diagnosed with rosacea they were alot worse.

Any steroid based topical is a no-no for me now as it really disagrees with me ,i have terribly dry skin which has slightly improved since i started putting a little nizoral on my face ,thanks for the tips my case isnt the worst out there but its still annoying ,im just looking for that little bit of extra help to make it look normal again ,it looks like a slight rash if that makes sense ??

Derms frustrate me lol ,the 2 ive seen i basically knew more then what they did on the subject lol from looking here, they charged me $180 for 20 minutes and prescribed me mino again , i already knew about that i thought lol

You might want to look into red light therapy as that may provide some relief for you.
I don't know of any topicals that are successful for redness except for the redness associated with p&p's. Red light helps calm down inflammation that in turn might quiet your redness somewhat.

have you tried Klaron?

I've found it works well for oiliness and texture (reducing papules, and the "rough" texture I tend to get on the intense redness on my cheeks).

Metrogel + Klaron works well for my POD.

I take an oral AB too (erythromycin), and I find the best results when I use the topical in conjunction with the oral AB.

However like Melissa said--many cannot tolerate topicals. So don't despair. klaron is really the only thing that doesn't irritate my rosacea (metrogel works for POD, but makes my rosacea worse). Finacea seemed OK at first but then ended up causing a larger flare after about a month of use.

I've had some decent success with clenia lately. However, i have somewhat oily skin, and sodium sulfacetamide can cause some drying.
