    Default Doxycycline results?

Last week I was given the perscription

Doxycycline 100 mg capsules to take 1x daily.

So far nothing has changed, just face feels a bit more leathery.

Anyone having good results? How long did it take to see results?

Also what are some good things to do at night when my rosacea is bugging me? I usually use cold water, and eucerine redness relief calming cream.

    THANK YOU!

i used to take doxycycline (my parents' recommendation; i don't remember the treatment plan), but found that it did nothing for my condition. i still had acne, rosacea, and poor complexion. but it did not make my skin leathery.

i hope you have better results.

In summer I took doxy 200 mg a day for 3 months and it completely cleared p&p. For 2 months I almost forgot about rosacea, but then it started all over again and even worse. Now I am on doxy again and going to have it for 2 months 200 mg, then 100 mg for a month.

    Hi Bootfetish

I started on 100mg Doxy twice a day and now on 100mg a day. I have no more p&p and redness has been reduced slightly. It may take longer than one week to see results.

My aim is to slowly reduce the dose over time, to a level where I am just getting the anti-inflammatory effect from the antibiotics and not the other nasties that come with taking this drug.

For years I would take a course of antibiotics, my Rosacea would clear up and then it would come back again. So I am hoping this new idea from my Derm of slowly reducing the dose may work for the long run. By that I mean, the long term use of low dose Doxy, hopefully as low as 25mg per day. As much as I hate taking antibiotics, I also hate having a burning p&p face, so it's the lesser of the two evils for me!

I guess I will continue down this path until either the Doxy stops working for me or something else is found that works as well.

Thanks for posting everyone. It feels good to know there are others out there in a similiar situation. So far the face is doing okay, I am still red, but just looks like a blush. I am not sure what the pills are really doing for me at this time. I am only taking the pills once a day.

If anyone knows of other things to do let me know?

My dermatologist also gave me Metrogel, but I am afraid to put it on my face with it being so sensitive to anything.

I took 100 mg a day of Doxy for my eyes. I no longer have ocular rosacea. It did help with the pimples a bit, did nothing for redness and flushing of course.

Get the heck out--really? It's gone? Are you off the Doxy? I just started it and I don't like it. Gives me nausea (even with food) and headaches, which I'm hoping will subside over time. I really wanted to discontinue them but if it helps the eyes, I may stay with it!

Yup, mine is all under control. I went to my opthamologist a few weeks back and he said everything is very calm and good in my eyes. I was on it for 9 months, did not see any results until the 3rd or 4th month in. I used short stints with steroid drops about once a month for 3 days, that really helped as well. But yes, Doxy has rid me from my eye problem. I have been off the Doxy for 4 weeks now, as I am getting ready for golf season and don't want to have my skin burning with the side effects Doxy has on your skin. My eyes were very bad 1 year ago, could not stand any sunlight.

I just quit doxy after nearly three years straight on it. I think at first it helped. I consider that perhaps whatever is eating my face now is resistant since even when I increase dosage over whatever length of time - no results.

I am not worse for the wear of having gotten off of it . . . yet.

I think for some people it can have wonderful results -- but I also have strong feelings against taking antibiotics for extended periods of time, and I really think that this resistant stuff I have now is the result of my own long-term use of the doxy.

    Dunno.

    Like that helped you. Sorry!

    Good luck!
