What's the consensus on this medication? Is it safe to take for an extended period of time? Thanks in advance.

I like it because it definitely helps with my seb derm but it also makes me flush the next day. :(
I just read on the internet that both Elidel and Protopic can cause "transient redness and stinging." I've been using Elidel for two days, and in both days I've gone through a major flare. I've also used about 14 klonopin in last week to smooth my nerve and help me get some sleep (I'm having terrible night flushes). I know Nase said to beware of Klonopin, but I read his post to my doctor and he said I could keep using it. One of these two is the culprit.
I'm going to discontinue the klonopin, and see how I do with just the Elidel. Now if the Elidel continues to bother me, then maybe I will have to go back onto the topical steroids for a short period of time.
I'm going to change my name to "that discouraged man", because this stinks.
I'm 25 days post IPL/laser treatment, and after some testing it is pretty clear that Elidel has made me flare pretty bad. I believe this is probably a minority reaction due to skin sensitivity from the treatments. With time and the toughening of my skin, I suspect I could tolerate the Elidel somewhat. Just something for folks to consider.
So are you off the Elidel? I drop anything that gives me a reaction. I've got a drawer full of medications, cleansers, and moisterizers that I tried and could not take. My advice would be not to try to work through the pain or redness or whatever the reaction is for any new medication you are trying, particularly when you are in such a reactive state. The beast is a hornets nest right now and it will get all stirred up at the drop of a hat. I tried Protopic but couldn't handle it and dropped it after two days.

I just tried Elidel and it made my skin warm (almost burning) for about 24h. This however is a common side effect and is just a little uncomfortable. I did not geat bright red. At least that's something

I tried using Elidel a couple of weeks ago and it made my face red and burn all day. The second day was the same so I didn't use it anymore.
Protopic also made my face burn.
They both have cancer warnings so that was all I needed to know.
my skin reacts good to elidel when im constantly on it, but when i go off, my face becomes red, itchy, bumpy and sensitive for about a few days.
Miki -- that was the same reaction I had when I tried it for a few days several years ago. It had a rebound effect just like topical steroids.
I recently tried elidel following some laser tretments, and the stuff made me flare real bad. I believe my skin can't tolerate any topicals at this point.
To bring this Elidel flare down I used Topical hydrocortisone lotion (2.5%) for about 6 days -- which was probably a couple days too long, because putting that stuff on my face now makes it red. That must be something in the base of that lotion which I don't like.
I have no idea where he gets that from, but the Moderator from the Yahoo Seb Derm group claims that Elidel can cause skin cancer....
