    Default Curcumin For Preventing Angiogenesis?

There's been some studies that I know have been discussed on the boards before about the use of this supplement in preventing blood vessesl re-growth. I don't think any definitive conclusions have come about but I'm wondering, does anybody see any reason not to take this after IPL? Could it harm the healing process in any way?

I'm going to have another series of 3 tx next month and I'd like to give it a shot. I can't take Biaxin as it causes my seb derm to literally explode but I feel I should try something.

On a side note, there was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal discussing how breast cancer patients that have had surgery have a higher mortality rate than those that don't and they think it's because of the angiogenesis caused by wound repair. Tumors need blood vessels to grow and they feed on the new vessels possibly brought on by the surgery. There's a flurry of activity in the cancer world to develop anti-angiogenesis drugs, can they help us too off label or would they be too potent?

    Just blabbing today.

    Hi Tricia,
I think I was the one who started the curcumin threads.
Anway, I bought it purified, made it into a topical (just hoping I wold get some through the skin). I will dye you yellow. I repeat...It will dye you yellow....I mean fluorescent yellow...you will glow in the dark. Not something you can wear under makeup, and if you put it on at night...you will spend an hour scrubbing to remove in the morning.
Also, it is not well absorbed orally, (I think only about 5 percent).
If just looking for a natural product that may help...I would try a soy (genistein), which has shown some anti angiogenesis properties in the lab.

Thanks for the response Perry. I was going to try it orally but that absorbent level doesn't sound too promising.

Halloween's coming up though so maybe I"ll go the topical route and find a costume to match my yellow face. ;)

    Tricia,
I have recently purchased a soy milk maker (makes soybean juice). You are prob. aware that certain soy isoflavones (componets in soybean) are proven angiogenesis inhibitors. There are plenty of studies to back this up, including studies done by the Nat'l Cancer Institute.
Google it, and you can read for a week.
Anyway, I am going to overdose on soy protein until the SansRosa product comes to market (fingers crossed) and hope for the best.
Also, it may ward off any post menopausal hot flashes, should my body decide to undergo menopause (really hope that doesn't happen).
Anyway, just some thoughts on possible dietary supplementation regarding angiogenesis.

    Perry,

How does the soy taste. Do you add anything to it? I tried Soy milk a while ago after reading the same overwhelming evidence that soy isoflavones are extremely beneficial.

As a side note, I spent a fortune on the best shark cartilage when I was first diagnosed with rosacea. That had some pretty impressive studies backing it up and pharmaceutical companies isolating certain chains to make a better anti-angiogenesis product. Have you ever went down the shark cartilage route?

Vanilla soy milk is yummy. I try to avoid Westsoy (blagh!).

I like to put it in my coffee or mix it with green tea and ice that. It's sort of like a wheatgrass smoothie taste.

I haven't read much about soy protein/isoflavones being helpful for our disease. What does it do?

I've heard about soy helping with angiogenesis too but I've been avoiding it lately because it came up positive in a food allergy test I had. :(

Silk Soy makes some great flavors, I used to love the vanilla one too!

    Hi All,
    I appreciate the responses.
Tricia, I am really sorry to hear about your soy allergy. Thats' awful, as I think that this is pretty rare? If you're determined to try curcumin, then I believe that there are ways to increase its absorption (taken with other foods). I will look for this info. later...meanwhile, google it and see what you come up with. Probably the cheapest way you'll get it is by going to an Indian grocer (curry powder), and buying in bulk. Again, I bought an expensive curcumin extract and forumlated a topical with DMSO and dimethicone (I think). Anyway...again, will turn you flourescent yellow for days. All the scrubbing you'll have to do to get the stuff off won't do your face any good. You can probably buy curry cheap on the net, too.

Dr. Nase, taste-wise, concerning the home-made soy milk, I am expecting the worst (haven't made any yet). (David, I assume you're referring to store-bought?).
Anyway...prob. gonna taste like sawdust and castor oil. I'll let you know. I decided to home brew it bc it costs pennies-on-the dollar. Also can't be any worse that drinking DMSO (which I'm proud to say I've done).

There is an inexpensive topical cream that I've tried (I don't remember the name). The AI is an "extract"....yeah...prob just ground up shark cartilidge that won't (as you once said) penetrate the skin. Will definitley make one smell like a dead fish, though. Prob. in actuality is really ground up carp cartilidge.
I've never tried orals. For one thing, too expensive.
Geoff...serious...I've read for some time about minocyclines' utility regarding angiogenesis. Read something recently, too. I wonder about the efficacy of sub therapeutic (well below MIC) dosing regarding prevention/maintenance? Any thoughts on this?
As always, my pleasure conversing with you guys,
    Perry
