Default Slow acne healing on accutane

I've been on accutane for perhaps 2 months now, although I have not seen any improvement in the redness (Dr Nase says it takes 3 months usually) - I have seen considerable improvement in my sebaceous glands.

The one thing that is worrying me is that my pre accutane bumps have died, have become unraised, but the red marks have been there for VERY LONG.

It seems accutane is slowing the healing time of these marks considerably. I have heard others that have had the same problem on other boards - can you venture a way to perhaps speed the healing of these marks while on accutane with rosacea, Dr Nase, anyone?

    Thanks.

Hi Fut, what dose of Accutane are you taking each day and apart from the slow skin healing time have you experienced any other side effects? This is one of the things I am worried about if I take low-dose accutane; I know that accutane will definitely decrease the skin's speed to heal at high doses but am not sure about low doses.

Sheesh so you are experiencing slow skin healing times even on a low dosage of accutane...grrr. I was hoping low dosages would not have this side-effect!

But have you taken accutane previously to this course and was that course at a much higher dosage, say 25mg+/day? This might explain the slow healing time because your dermis may have been slightly thinned.

Apart from the red marks, is your skin's overall complexion much more even and less red?

Do you also experience blushing and has accutane helped this?

With regards to how to increase your skin's healing time for getting rid of the red marks, you may wish to visit this subforum:

It has some great tips and am sure you will get some helpful advice. I suggest you take a dose of Omega-3's, at least 3g-5g per day in the form of EPA and DHA fish oils as well as 1g of Evening Primrose Oil which will give you much needed GLA. You can also try applying 100% pure Emu Oil to the red marks which is a great anti-inflammatory as is Aloe Vera gel straight from the plant.

And assess your diet making sure you are eating as much natural antioxidants from fresh fruit and veg as possible.

For some reason i'm healing faster but the skin may be a little more delicate.

I'm still undecided as to whether to go for hair removal as if i do then i run the risk of whatever probs there may be, if not then i will keep getting ingrowns and they make a mess fron inflammtaion and digging them out.
    Can't win.
