    Default Accutane Question

Dr. Nase, I saw this posted way out there in Internet world.. any comments?

Accutane is known to cause depression as it removes oil in skin and body tissue good and bad! Dr. Perricone recomends anyone on accutane supplement there diet with Salmon as it helps replace some of the good oils accutante take aways and also help with the depression!

3 IPL and tried Accutane. Accutane stopped the oil flow but caused other problems. Now just using a mix of Sea Kelp and EGF every night.

Please ignore the depression part. I like the oil supplementation, but only if you can stand burping up fish oil for a few hours. Omega Twins by Barleans is superb and tastes good.

Haven't heard of a single Rosacean that took low-dose accutane becoming depressed because of it.

I was curious about the oil.. hence my 2nd post.

You are correct. The decrease in flushing and redness was very depressing.

It's not actually a fact, it's a myth perpetuated by people who don't know what they are talking about, or who are misinterpreting literature.

I speak for myself, but I need(ed) Accutane and would be depressed without it.

One of the main reasons for the label changing was because a US senator son killed himself while on Accutane. The birth defects issue is far far more serious than anything else. There is an interesting article "Babies, Blemishes and FDA: A History of Accutane Regulation in the United States" it is a long but interesting read. http://leda.law.harvard.edu/leda/data/472/Green.html

Without Accutane, I would be in severe depression. Isotretinoin has never affected my mental well-being. This drug has given me part of my life back. Accutane is the only drug that reduces my symptoms. I'm extremely thankful that this drug is available. I'm also thankful that I have a derm who is knowlegeable about Isotretinoin as a treatment option for severe rosacea.
