Default to all you antibiotic (clarithromycin, etc...)users w/ ipl

this message goes out to all those who are using or have used some form of antibiotic (clarithromycin, doxycycline,etc...). have any you suffered any side effects from using them (increased redness, worsening of rosacea, stomach pains, etc..)? were you using them during ipl treatment? were you using them primarily for preventing angiogenesis post-ipl (in which case, has anyone still had a large amount of angiogensis even while on them), or were you using them for some other reason (rosacea bumps, flushing, ???)? even dr. darm, from what he told me, said that he just recently began prescribing clarithromycin to inhibit angiogenesis post-ipl to LIMITED patients (in particular, those who do the concentrated treatment of 3 ipls in 1 week) since there are some dangers to using these drugs. As I understand it, the idea behind the antibiotic's effectiveness solely for inhibiting angiogensis is theoretical at this point...and no real practical (clinical) data/tests have backed up the claim. but the way it sounds on these boards is that everyone is using them like they're going out of style. do most of you make a plea to your ipl doctor to prescibe them or do they readily distribute them? so i guess before i decide if i might give them a try, i'm looking for some feedback from those actually using them (btw, if you are using them in conjunction with other meds and you don't mind mentioning those other meds, please tell). thanks to all.

I use clarithromycin 500 XL each day. And clonidine, fluoxetine, benadryl occasionally, klonopin occasionally.

I don't understand where these recent posts about the risks of using macrolide antibiotics are coming from.... Did I miss a study or something? Can someone point out some published evidence of the risk of taking these antibiotics?

Toleraine Soothing Light Facial Fluid for moisturizer. I don't use a special cleanser. Clonidine daily; klonopin sometimes.
BEST and CURRENT TREATMENT I use: Low-Level Red Light Therapy LED array.
Please feel free to PM me with your low-level red light therapy (LLRLT) questions. I'm happy to help if I can.

hmm..what is macrolide? maybe Doxycycline isn't included there but eating antibiotics for a long time is not good..pretty much common knowledge i guess. Then we also have worse cases, like myself. I ate Doxycyclin for acne and my face got redder and redder for everyday, and now 1 year after that im sitting here with rosacea and i can't think of anything else that could have caused it but medications. Nobody in my family has it etc. Maybe sun combined with antibiotics caused it if anything else...

btw, why was all the other posts deleted?

I took Biaxin XL after my first two IPLs. It was difficult for me to tell how much it helped because I had no means of comparison. Unfortunately I came down with a terrible yeast infection (presumably as a result of the antibiotics). Turned out to be a "complex" infection, marked by a resistant strain of yeast—very difficult to treat. I've since learned that Biaxin, even moreso than other antibiotics, is notorious for quickly wiping out all of the internal flora (which generally results in yeast overgrowth).

For this reason I didn't take the Biaxin after my 3rd IPL. I tried to supplement instead with other angiogenesis inhibitors (Curcumin, Soy Isoflavin, lots of Green Tea). Now, this could have been a coincidence (I was probably a little less careful in other ways after this treatment because the first two had gone so well) BUT I experienced a degree of backward progress after this treatment (please note: I am NOT definitively blaming the lack of Biaxin for this backwards slide).

I just had my fourth IPL and I'm pulse-dosing at my own risk with Azythromycin (Zithromax), which I'm really hoping will be a little less harsh on my flora.

I saw my dermotologist yesterday, whom I really respect. While she agreed to give me a prescription, she emphasised that the macrolides, especially the newer ones like Biaxin, are not to be taken lightly. They are very powerful and can really do a number on ones system.

Please bear in mind that macrolides MAY be helpful after IPLs, but they are not without risk, as I now know fisthand.[/u]

well i didnt have any side effects when on it but when i got off it after the 21st day my streptolysin was FAR TO HIGH and thus i got a tonsillitis which was very bad - Some pusy abcess behind my tonsils had to be excised including my tonsils - that was deffinitely from the antibiotica. I used Clarithromycin 500mg

having done some inquiries i found out that getting the tonsillitis is related to an overfunctioning of the streptokokken. Some ppl who take clarithromycin(or other erythromycin similar macrolides) build up a resistance to that macrolide antibiotica and thus the streptokokken can propagate and produce A-Streptolysin which causes the infection. So there is no must that you get the tonsillitis but the possibility is 24% according to a study that you build up a resistance.

One week after the Streptokokken-infection the Anti-Streptolysin-O commences to rise - after 3-5 weeks you reach you maximum and it takes about 6-12 month to settle down to normal....

Streptokokkus pyogenes causes hemolysis which is the dissolving of red blood corpuscles by destruction of the cell membrane.

Other possible infections related to Streptokokkus pyogenes can be:

    Erysipel
    Impetigo
    rheumatic pyrexia/fever
    pneumonia
    Glomerulonephritis
    Endokarditis

So watch out what you are doing
    20 yo male
    subtype 1 & 5
10 IPL without and 5 with niacin flush&post clarithromycin
    curr. using 300mg OPC/day & 1000mg Ester-C
    skin care: evening primrose oil
    meds: 90mg cymbalta & 500mg Seroquel
