    Default Guys: Questions about shaving

    Hi all!
Shaving is one the things I dread. I've found a few products that definitely make it a little easier -
    Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel
Dermalogica Pro Shave (although I imagine any shaving oil would do)

But, I'm wondering if you guys know of anything that seems to cut down on irritation? I use a Mach3...should I be using an electric razor instead?

I find that these products minimize actual irritation, but if I'm going to flare, I'm going to flare.

    thanks for any suggestions.

PS, post your shaving routine please :)

25 year old male, 20mgs Accutane daily.
10mg's of Singulair daily (bonus that it helps with my asthma! lol)

Shave w/ Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel, Sensor Excel razor. (Used to use Mach3, but tried Sensor and won't go back!)

I use a Mach 3 with Gillette Shaving Gel for Sensitive Skin. Before I started using the sensitve type, I was always irritated after a shave.

My skin is very soft and smooth when done. But, if you do use a blade, make sure its always sharp .. I probably change blades after about 7 times.

When complete, I take a wash cloth with luke warm water and clean the left-over gel off. I then pat dry my cheeks and neck with a clean towel and then apply Zinco. Feels great.

I know there are some wet shavers out there, but i've never tried them.

I haven't used a blade since I kept getting razor bumps in high school. lol
But, for the rosacea, I always get red after shaving. If you don't have a problem with razor bumps, you might find getting an electric or a wet/dry electric so you can cool your skin as you shave. Cold water while you shave may also tighten up your skin a bit and make the whiskers easier for the blade to cut with less irritation? I don't know about this. It seems like warm water would be a bad choice.
I've just taken to shaving once every week or two weeks (not possible for some, I realize) and avoid it until I look like I'm going undercover on skid row. But, if you shaved everyday and didnt' have too much to do, an electric might be a good choice. Just use it slowly and gently and it shouldn't cause much irritation.
I don't put anything on my face right now except distilled water, so shaving gels are out. I think many of them contain some nasty ingredients for us anyway. Dunno about that.

The best tip that I forgot was to shave right after you get out of the shower. The facial hair is wet and very easy to shave off. I find that if I wait even 5 or 10 mins after a shower, its harder to shave and i'll have more irritation.

3 IPL and tried Accutane. Accutane stopped the oil flow but caused other problems. Now just using a mix of Sea Kelp and EGF every night.

You guys dont have any issues with shaving with a razor and gel and aftershave? I switched to a electric. Presently the braun activator to get away from after shaves or gels that sting or made me redder. I tried the panasonic shaver wet for a while..but decided on the activator. Im not all that happy with it..but seems the most gentle. I need to shave every day for work. I wish i could find a way to wet shave..i do enjoy it better and it would keep my face cooler.
