Default A question about steroid cream side-effects

i have quit using my steroid cream for more than 2 weeks, and acess to a new treatment, my face responds well to this method, but there are still many small acnes, vescicles, and some swollen marks (and I'm sure these symtoms are the side-effects for more than 2 years using steroid cream). I wonder when I can escape from these side-effects because they are really annoying, making my face texture rough, oily and itchy. Anyone experience this? Just give me some advice. thanks in advance

No one can help me? I have many acnes (that I never had before, just get them from using steroid cream) and it makes my face oily and itchy, what should I do?

    Hi Rogue,

Steroid cream can be nasty business. What type of steroid cream did you use? Typically steroid cream will help at first and then cause problems. Getting off the steroid cream can also cause problems. Your skin gets addicted to it and then has a tough time when you stop using it but will usually calm down over the course of weeks maybe months.

Now that you have stopped the steroid cream, what are you using?

I used hydrocortisone for 2,5 years, and now I'm using honey mask. It worked well on the 1st week, but seems like getting worse on the 2nd week.

After using hydrocortisone for over 2 years, I think it will take time for your skin to normalize. Honey seems to work well for some but not all. It did not work for me, I actually found it to be harsh and drying. Do you plan on seeing a doctor for consultation about your condition? If so, you might want to ask for a sulfacetamide/sulfur lotion. I have found this to be very helpful. Previously I used a steroid cream for several months, at first it helped but eventually made a mess of my skin. After stopping the steroid it took several months for my skin to heal.

Yes, I'm planning to see my derm next week. I actually bought tacrolimus oinment, but I haven't used it yet (because I decided to use honey mask first), I will ask my derm about the oinment and the sulfur lotion you mentioned.thanks for your suggestion.

Yes, I needed to get this medication from my doctor, it's not available over-the-counter. I am not aware of any long-term harmful effects.
