    Default Solodyn as Needed

Hi. I'm new here. I have used MetroGel for years, prescribed by my primary doctor, and just saw a dermatologist for the first time, as I am developing bouts of P&P. The dermatologist prescribed Solodyn, but said only to take it for a few days at a time, when I have P&P, and it will make it go away. I took it for two days, and it didn't make the bumps go away, but it did upset my stomach a lot. is anyone out there finding success using Solodyn "as needed"? Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the RF .

I am not sure of the logic of taking this med "as needed". It takes time for these meds to start working so using them sporadically will make little difference I think. Once you have been using the med for a longer time then perhaps you can cut back to every few days but before then I am not sure it will be effective. Also, I prefer Oracea (40 mg timed release doxy) to Solodyn (minocycline) especially because Solodyn is not solely anti-inflammatory but rather has antibacterial action as well whereas Oracea is purely anti-inflammatory. The orals take a number of weeks to start fully working so keep that in mind.

Also, you might want to try another topical first before taking an oral. There are many different topicals formulated for the paps/pustules of rosacea that might work better for you than metrogel. Finacea, aczone are 2 that come to mind.

    Best,
    Melissa

    Default Solodyn As Needed

Thank you, Melissa. The "as needed" bit sounded odd to me, too. I will look into the things you mentioned. Thanks so much.
