    Default Long term brimonidine users

Hi I have been reading through lots of information about Brimonidine and its use in the hopefully upcoming Sansrosa cream by Galderma. I have seen that a few people have obtained Brimonidine and applied this to their skin once diluted with creams etc.

However from what I have read the majority of people appear to have a 'rebound flush' following several weeks or months of daily application. My question is has anyone tried this long term and been successful? Also has anyone tried only applying brimonidine every other day or every couple of days to prevent the likelihood of rebound, would be very interested to hear from some of you!

    Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi, I don't know many who have tried this medication but I can share what my dermatologist told me at my last visit. He said they are working on this drug and working on the rebound effect. He said they have been successful with people not experiencing the rebound effect but again this is heresay as I have no firsthand knowledge this is true and neither does he.

I tried this drug a few years ago (I think- time flies!) and at first it worked somewhat but then I experienced what I believed to be a rebound flush and I immediately stopped taking the med because it just wasn't worth the risk IMO.
I am waiting till it becomes FDA approved before I try it again because I am hoping they will eliminate the rebound somehow in the FDA approved formulation. Right now all that is available to my knowledge is the ocular drop version that is used for treating glaucoma.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful and sorry the approved drug is not ready yet to try. It might be years before it is if at all but I remain hopeful. And so should everyone because as time goes on we are closer to finding more successful treatments. We should never lose optimism and hope.

    Best,
    Melissa

    Hi Melissa,

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate you taking the time to compose a message.

How long did you try the medication for before you experienced rebound flushing? Also did your skin return to 'normal' after the rebound?

I am tempted to try it but maybe just for special occasions where I need extra support. I will see what my GP says, if he isn't willing to prescribe it for that reason then I will have to wait it out until Sansrosa is released!

    Thanks

    Hi rosaceaclearwannabe,
It was a while ago that I tried this medication so I cannot be entirely sure but I think it took a couple of applications before I experienced any rebound. My face did go back to normal after I stopped using it but I didn't use it after I experienced any problem. If you do a search here you will find my exact experience and others accounts as well so that may be helpful. Be careful with this drug though and if you do plan on trying it use it as minimally as possible. I cannot remember who it was who had a lot of trouble with rebound and getting back to normal but I am sure it will turn up in your search.

    Best,
    Melissa
