Default This may help ear flushers..

    Hey everyone. I'm Wolf.

Please skip the italic text if you're not interested in my story (understandable).

I have been lurking for nearly 2 years (I'm 17 now) and thought I would just offer some help to those who suffer from hot red stinging ears. I have gained a wealth of knowledge from this forum so thank you! Especially Melissa! Who is so generous with her answers and has really helped me personally.

    Anyway..

Long story short. I have quite severe facial flushing (not from accutane, just stupid sun exposure and both my parents have rosacea to a degree) which has pretty much crushed my social life as a teenager. Change in temp, stressful situations and evenings/nights are my biggest triggers. My cheeks, nose and ears become so red I can't even look at myself in the mirror because it hurts too much. Some times I just want the ground to swallow me up and put me in a dark hole so nobody can see me. However, I believe it has made me a stronger person mentally and physically; I study hard and workout (sensibly) a lot to become the person I want to be, as opposed to putting my entire life on hold to overcome this disease. So in a way rosacea has kind of helped me with that aspect of my life, although my heart sinks every monday when my friends talk about their exciting weekends.

I'm currently still at a small town high school that doesn't offer any real treatment for this. Next year, I'm off to a prestigious university (thanks rosacea for not letting me go out every weekend!) in a big city where I can seek laser treatment for this awful flushing. I am so knowledgeable on rosacea it's not even funny, if it was a subject at school I'm sure I would get an A+ . I'm actually looking forward to having a very intuitive discussion about the laser settings with the dermatologist.

To lessen and ultimately reduce ear flushing and redness, moisturize them day and night! It's amazing, if you actually look inside your inner ear fold, near the top, they will most likely be dry and really red. I use nivea sensitive moisturizer, but I've been experimenting with others and they are just as good. My ears now look and feel great, they are actually pale and don't flush with the rest of my face; they always just feel cool. I think this is because the ear tissue is so thin that the moisturizing cream penetrates through from one side of the ear to the other, some what cooling the vessels and overall improving the skin dryness. I noticed results after around three days! Hope this helps, please reply if you find this helps you!

    Keep fighting everyone,

    Wolf.

Wolf, you're so brave to try the Nivea. I know sometimes (often) a person can be afraid to use anything after having severe set-backs from various products.

Many of us heard that in the past a product called Ponds cold cream was effective against rosacea. But since that product was around, the company that owns Ponds has changed the recipe and expanded the line a bit, so now your head spins not knowing just which might work. Supposedly, the original Ponds had some Borax in it. So the cream smothered and the Borax poisoned demodex mites.

Maybe the Nivea, which moisturizing, is also killing off microscopic interlopers.

    Good for you!

BTW, have you checked into diet as a source of delayed rosacea reaction? Yes, some food make people flare right away, so they know they are very sensitive to them and should avoid them. But some foods cause a slower reaction that slowly appears over days. And if it's something you always eat you can never get to the end of the allergen's cycle.

Hi Wolf, I am so glad you are doing well! I also find that keeping my face well moisturized really helps minimize the flushing to some extent. I think the drier your face becomes the the lower the tolerance to triggers and the more susceptible it is to flushing so makes sense that works for ears too. Thanks for sharing what is working for you and all the best at university. Congratulations on being accepted at such a wonderful school. I know you will be successful in whatever you do in life. Rosacea makes us stronger and more determined to make it through whatever life throws at us. So don't worry about the weekends you might have missed- you have a lifetime of rewarding experiences ahead!

And thank you for your too kind words. I really appreciate that.

    All the best,
    Melissa
