Default Does anyone think I have rosacea?

Hi all, I hope you don't mind me posting these photos of my horrible face. I have been told I have uber sensitive skin by my beautician and my GP has told me this is not rosacea, but 'vascular' and apparently there is nothing I can do about it. But I wanted to ask you clever, experienced people here YOUR views of my skin. I've had it a few years, mainly after having my kids, it hasn't got worse as such, just maybe more sensitive. The skin has tiny pimples, occasionally sebaceous but do not grow into big acne spots. It can be a tiny bit sore sometimes and a tiny bit itchy sometimes and I've used a LOT of expensive products that do not change the appearance although some cosmetics make it more reactive. Thanks in advance.

Hey hun, i'm not a doctor but that looks like textbook type 2 to me.

I suffered from type 2 and it looks virtually exactly the same as yours but a bit worse.

I have treated mine with a case of oral antibiotics which took a few weeks but eventually cleared up the P&P's (the little red pimples) and now I use Neutrogena extra gentle cleanser and moisturiser twice daily, in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle.

Breakouts are few and far between and only minor, so if you do have simmilar type 2 to me there is definatley a lot of hope.

My advice, get to another doctor, tell him you suspect Rosecea subtype 2, and ask for an appropriate oral antibiotic, try out the neutrogina product (please please please stay away from anything harsh such as alcohol based skin products) and also try antioxidents such as green tea, you can even use green tea gel on your skin.

There are many other, more "hardcore" treatments but I prefer to keep it simple and see if it works before going into that sort of territory.

Hope this helps you, keep us up to date!

Thanks for replying. Does rosacea ever sting or itch, or can it be exaccerbated bye products and make it sensitive?

Yes to all of those questions, if you have rosecea you need to be very careful what you put on your skin, and mild stinging and itching can occur if you don't treat your skin well

I have just stopped using Dermalogica's ultracalming range after several years use, because it was doing nothing to change the appearance. I have used Caudalie, Bioderma, Liz Earle, Decleor, nothing seems to calm it down other than sanctuary spa oil but I'm worried to keep using oil on my face.

I wouldn't worry, the oils in that product don't stand out as negatives to me. There are many other products you could try though, people have success with different products. I have had success with Tea Tree Oil (heavily diluted) neutrogena extra gentle cleanser and using cocount oil as a mask.

I belive in tackling the condition in stages, I usually will scrub with the tea tree oils which cleanses the skin, apply a layer of coconut oil and then cleanse with the cleanser.

this is the best routine I have had results with, I am rosecea free 95% of the time now

You may want to follow this thread, as i state there I think that this doctor might be the one with the answers for the condition, I am doing more research

Thanks, I'm going to try all those things, have nothing to lose (other than the fact coconut and tea tree are 2 of my worst scents in the world lol)

    Default Skin allergies?

I noticed you have a piercing. Did you ever get tested for contact allergies (metals are a big one)? I switched to titanium jewelry (lousy selection but less allergenic) because I tested allergic to nickel and gold.
