Hey Dave, so can you give me some more details? Did this just come out of the blue one day? Did the spots come for a week or two and then dissapear? Has it gotten progressively worse over time? were you diagnosed with rosacea by a dermatologist? Is there any sort of laser treatment that you looked into?
Well......yes and no! I'm 31 years old now. As a teenager (maybe 13-17ish), I suffered moderately with 'acne' (although severe enough to require antibiotic treatment), however this seemed to largely clear up of it's own accord, as most peoples teenage acne does. I never had flawless skin, but for 8-9 years, it didn't cause me any significant issues.
Then, at 26, yes - it just came out of the blue!
However, what I then came to realise, or suspect, was that my 'teenage acne' maybe wasn't standard issue teenage acne afterall, as it was this same symptom - severe inflammation of the nose, which is actually very distinct from what the majority of teenagers suffer with.
Again, this is difficult to answer! The general 'state' of my skin has sadly got worse (it's been five years now), which I believe is a result of the repeated bouts of inflammation eventually leaving permanent marks. I have, however acheived some level of control over my breakouts through various treatments, however nothing has brought me total satisfaction so far.
Once again, nothing in this is straightforward! My dermatologists wavered between treating me for 'acne vulgaris' and 'acne rosacea' for a long time. This was exacerbated, as you have noted, by my face often being relatively 'clear' when actually in the presence of Drs, meaning they didn't always get a proper impression of my symptoms. So yes, always go armed with photographs!
Regards laser treatment, I have made some preliminary enquiries, but I'm not certain there exists a treatment that can treat the symptoms that you & I exhibit. That is one issue I've found on my rosacea 'journey' - relatively few people with 'rosacea' actually share my particular symptoms.
I'm sorry my answers aren't more positive! However, what I will say is, you're doing yourself a big favour by getting to grips with things early.
ok well thanks for the info. I was thinking its time to start limiting the alcohol intake and using sunscreen anyway, so i guess for now that's all i can do until I talk to my derm. I can't really picture myself giving up spicy food or working out in the heat though as they are two of my favorite things, but the alcohol can definately stand to play a smaller role my life.
