Default Permanently red nose - what can I do to treat it... IPL?

I have a very pale complexion with freckles, but I actually don't burn or tan easily. All my life I've been pasty and prone to flushing, however the tip of my nose has always been the worst, and is permanently red. I started noticing it as early as 10 years old. It gets worse in hot/cold environments, and even just when touched.
I had a consultation today and the nurse recommended 4-6 IPL treatments 2 weeks apart. I've read a fair bit about IPL now and it kind of scares me, but at the same time the thought of being able to feel comfortable not wearing make up is so appealing!
Anyway just wondered if anyone with a similar condition had found IPL or any other remedy for this? I'll post a pic below - this is my nose at it's LEAST red.
Also the dot on my nose at the moment is a scar from a recent pimple - I actually rarely get pimples or any other skin conditions besides occasional dryness or a chemical induced rash (from cleaning products, or sometimes particular make-up, cleansers or sunscreens)
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for getting in touch!
Your nose looks a lot like mine! I don't feel so alone now!
I got called "Rudolph" all the time in high school too - people don't realize how hurtful it is.
I've been suggested IPL but I'm seeing A LOT of dermatologists and specialists, and doing a lot of research. I don't want to risk further damage or redness, or waste my money on something that isn't going to help.
I just wish there was a one-off permanent solution for this!!!

At least as a girl I can cover mine up with make-up, but I am so sick of having to feel like I need to wear make-up all the time! My partner is very supportive, but I am so self conscious about it, and in the early days of our relationship I even used to get up in the middle of the night to re-apply make up so he wouldn't see it in the morning. I even wear make up when I go camping which is RIDICULOUS!

Anyway I know as a guy you don't really want to be wearing make-up, but I sometimes use a tiny bit of concealer on the tip of my nose - you can get green concealer which cancels out the red. You only need a tiny bit and you can't notice it's there - you could always try something like that when the redness gets worse?

Good luck on your journey, and thanks for sharing your blog, it's really helpful and I look forward to reading more of it!

Oh, just a question I had though...
When your rosacea returned after laser treatment, was the redness the same as it was before, or better/worse?
I think I want to give IPL or lasers a try, but if the redness is only going to come back worse than I would rather leave it alone!

    Hi Simi,

I had periods of very reduced redness and some flare ups due to some triggers but i don't think my redness was ever worse than before the laser treatment.

    Hope this helps

do you ever get big red bumps on the tip of your noes? I dont have permanently red nose...but often it looks really sunburned and then somtimes I get large painful lumps on the end of my nostril...they come about once every 6 months and look really ugly like a terrible pimple but i know its not that, theres no blackhead and impossible to pop. I tried to ask my doctor about rosacea but he blew me off and said no way its just some sort of infection. but i know for a fact it gets worse when i drink or do other dumb things i shouldn't be doing, or get lots of sun. I have a derm appointment in a few weeks but i'm worried since i have no swelling at the moment they won't be able to tell me whats going on.

PS for what its worth you're the prettiest 'rudolph' i ever saw. keep your head up

I've had great success with IPL and do think it'll make a difference. I notice a difference after one treatment and last year went in and just had my nose done. It's still pretty good so I'll postpone another treatment. I've had lots of laser and I can say I highly doubt it'll be 6 rounds to get the look you're comfortable with. Maybe 3. Could depend on the laser. I found laser Genesis (warms the skin) took several treatments and now I'm just going to go back to IPL. Another thing, pressed foundation/powder is great. Dior and Mac make good ones to use on the face. Just be aware of what you wash with and treat your face gently and it'll all help toward taking care of the red!
