    Default My Coconut Oil Diary

    Greetings from Denmark!

I've battled dry and red skin on both sides of my nose. I was able to keep it down by applying locoid (hydrocortisone) though. It's only now I see the damage this stuff causes. I stopped doing this cold turkey a couple of months ago, and I think I'm over the worst part.

I got diagnosed with rosacea little over three weeks ago. Since then I've been on metronidazol-creme and tetracyclin-pills with fair results. There is still some redness, and for the first time I'm noticing p&p's. I also swear it seems like i spreading, but I could be imagining this.

I've understood that people on this forum have had some succes with virgin coconut oil. I'm ready to try almost everything and judging from the succes-ratio, I think this is a good start.

I bought a glass of extra virgin coconut oil and applied it for the first time yesterday evening.

    Day 1
When I woke up after applying it the night before, I didn't notice much change. Maybe it was actually a bit more red. I took a cold shower and applied the oil to my dry skin. This made the redness flair up. I'd say it's just as red as it was before I began on the metrocreme and pills. As I'm writing this it's settled down, but it's still more red than when I applied it, I think. No stinging or itching though.

I'm a applying it by melting a bit of the oil in my hand and putting it on my whole face.

I also plan on eating 6 small spoons of it every day, starting with two this morning.

Should I continue with the pills and metrocreme, and if so, in what order should I apply the creme and oil.

If you have any advice I would be grateful. I'm also glad to answer your questions.

    I want to beat this!

    Thanks a lot,

    Larsen

Hi Larson, I have been putting coconut oil on my face too. I think if you see benefits to your skin then continue, and I think everyone is individual, and treatments can involves some trial and error.

In addition to coconut oil, how has your diet? If the underlying cause of your skin condition is bacterial, fungal, or mites, then it is important to starve them from the inside. I have noticed improvements in my skin by cutting out sugar, bread, and reducing dairy. I also plan to do a parasite cleanse in the next week or so.

    I wish you good luck with your treatment;
    Lesley

    Thank you Lesley

I'm trying to cut out those as well as alcohol. It's not always easy, but I've at least been able to cut down on it.

I must admit that I'm quite hesitant to continue with the oil. I don't think I reacted like this when I applied yesterday evening, but I DID put a little more on this morning than yesterday.

I know I can't expect results after just two times, but I didn't think it would make it worse :-(

Larsen - If you can hold out I would give it at least a week or 2 to see if it really works for you.

    Your welcome Larson,

My skin did not react to the coconut oil, however, if your skin is reacting that may be die off effects. This may happen with any treatment you try, and is extremely frustrating. It would be nice if everyone was the same and one treatment worked for everyone.

    Day 2
I decided to stick with oil. Last night I applied a very thin layer, so thin that I'm not sure whether I used enough. How can you tell that?

This morning I looked better than yesterday, and I didn't have a negative reaction to the oil again. No improvement over when I first started, though. I do feel that my eyes sting less, could this be from the oil?

I apply metrocreme about an hour before i use the coconut oil, only at nights though. Do these two work against each other in any way?

So, Day 2, not a big improvement, but I'm optimistic.

    Day 7
I've been applying the coconut creme every night and morning for a week now. I've tried to eat 6 small spoons of it too. On top of that I've applied metro-creme and taken my tetracyclin-pills to times a day as well.

In the last week I've seen a lot of improvement. The red area is still kinda pinkish, but it's better than it's been for months. This could be the tetracyclin and the metro-creme working, but I've been using this for a month and the biggest improvement has shown itself this last week.

This morning my skin didn't look good. I ate a ton of sugar yesterday, so this is probably the reason. Sugar is a huge trigger for me, it seems. I hope it clears up soon.

Of course, mrsmoof. I was thinking about only doing this weekly, but I can do it now :-)

    Day 13
Huge improvement. If I could only 'lock' this redness down and never worry about it getting worse I would be delighted :-) I've continued with the same procedure (coconut oil two times a day, the same with metrocreme and tetracyclin). Last thursday I actually drank two glasses of redwine and to beers without the redness getting worse, and sunday night I drank three cokes, again with no further redness. I will post pictures tomorrow, so that people can compare.

Again, I can't say if it's just the metro and tetra kicking in, but it would be a huge coincidence if it happened just as I began my coconut-oil cure. No one's noticing my redness any more, except for myself. And even I don't think it's that bad.

One thing's for sure: Coconut Oil doesn't hurt! And it does make for a great moisturizer :-)

I will update in a week.

Larsen - That is great news. What percentage would you say you have improved? And do you only put coconut oil on ur face? Do you take internally as well?
