Im diagnosed with seb derm, perioral derm, and rosacea. Its been going on for 3 months. Being treated with ketoconazole cream in the am and metrogel in the pm. I get flat red marks that look like pimples but they arent. They are on my inner cheek towards my mouth, on my chin, and my lip. I hate this!!!!!!!!!

Have you seen any improvement with the cream and gel? When you say they look like pimples but aren't, what exactly do you mean?

No noticeable improvement. The red marks that appear around my mouth and chin look like pimples, but they arent raised like a traditional pimple. They are really flat. I had 2 pop up this morning on my chin and they are bright bright red. . Im so depressed because of all this . I see the derm in 13 days for a follow up, and im going to ask to switch topicals and possibly go on oral antiobiotics. Orals are usually the quickest and most effective way to treat skin issues. I just want to be clear!!! Heres a pic of my skin right now. P.S. I dont know why they are sideways. Sorry.

I know it's not easy, but try not to get too depressed. It may take some trial and error but you will a find routine that helps. Do the red marks get a white puss center or do they just stay red and flat? You may want to ask your Doc if 5% sulfur/10% sulfacetamide lotion may be of help. That's the best topical I've used. I got very little results from metrogel and finacea.

    Hang in there,
    Dave

The ones I get on my inner cheek towards my mouth are completely red and flat. The ones I get on my chin get a tiny tiny white puss center, but there are so flat they are not something I can actually pop like a pimple. Im allergic to SULFA so my derm wanted to hold off on that. They were going to give me Rosula wash which is that sulfur and sulfacetamide wash but my allergy to sulfa wasnt something they wanted to mess with. I also had an allergic reaction to minocyclin after taking it for over 2 years. I broke out in terrible hives. So the derm didnt want to give me doxycyclin bc of my allergy to minocyclin. Im so lost right now! 13 more days until I go back for something else seems like an eternity because im so depressed each and every day! Thanks Dave for your suggestions.

I know 13 days seems like forever, especially when you are breaking out, but the days will pass and you will be in the doctor's office before you know it.

Have you ever thought of just taking a break from all topicals for a week or two to see what would happen. Some people find that their skin improves just by stopping everything and being very gentle to the skin for a period of time. Topicals can be very helpful but they can also be irritating. I use Differin on my cheeks but if I use it too much it makes my skin irritated and angry looking. At times I take a week or two break from it, sort of a detox and then start over.

I didnt put anything on my skin besides water for 3 1/2 weeks when I was in boot camp a month ago. No change. Everyday that I wake up and my skin isnt clear, thats like a day wasted for me. Life is really hard for me right now. 12 days left...

Oh that's not good, have you tried consulting with other dermatologist?
