Default "Healing With Whole Foods," by Paul Pitchford (book review)

"Healing With Whole Foods," by paul pitchford is a book I highly recommend if you wish to maximize your health through diet. This 700 page reference book addresses health issues from the East/West perspective.
Diets, herbs, vitamins, minerals and more are outlined for specific imbalances as they apply to the varying constitutional types. Different diets are recommended for the same disease, depending on your constitutional type. Food combining is gone over at length, and I was quite surprised that some of my combinations were not ideal.
He addresses facial rash issues as falling under one of two types of imbalances: Yin Deficiency or Yang Excess in the system, (Eastern point of view, both manifesting as excess heat).
Rosacea has a lengthy and varied list of causes, as well as types. This book offers a broad, sane approach to rebuilding the system to genuine health, not just a quick fix.

Thanks for letting us know about this book. Just curious how has the information helped your rosacea to clear up or improve if it has?
Current skincare regime for rosacea subtypes I, II and IV started March, 2012:

*Strict diet. No dairy, wheat, sugar, nuts/seeds, legumes. Only meat, 'safe starches', and low-phenol starchy/unstarchy fruits and veggies and water with ghee, lard and duck fat as cooking aids and sources of fat. Also avoiding food intolerances.
Supplementing with raw food multivitamin, liquid zinc sulfate with copper, epsom salt baths (magnesium sulfate), calcium and vitamin C. Lots of water!

    hi Christine123,
I use this book as my primary reference for diet as well as some herbs and supplements. My rosace started with hot flashes, that only affected my face. Before I realized what the proper herb was to mitigate this, the rosacea condition had started a negative cycle, and I had vascular damage to my skin.
Reading about the principal of Yin Deficiency in this book, as well as consulting with friends practicing Tai ChI found ways to come back into balance by nurturing the Yin. As I did this the rosacea
and the heat imbalance largely diminished. I accomplished this by moving to a cooler, wet climate, eating an abindance of yin nourishing foods, cutting out acid and heat producing foods.
During my process, my Dermatologist put me on 50mg dose of doxycycline. After a week, my body had what appeared to be a massive histamine reaction, which I now see was likely a candida overgrowth in my digestive tract.I started flushing when ever I ate carbs. My naturopath suggested this may be candida yeast symptoms, not an uncommon result of antibiotic use.
Pitchford 's book gave me a sane approach to cleansing for my constitution, as well as a diet to clear the candida overgrowth, and maintenance diet, which i am still in process with. Yes, diet and meditation are now the entire focus of my healing process. I no longer flush, am sticking with a supportive diet plan, and working on regenerating my skin.
Diet recommendations were similar to what my naturopath suggested in the Body Ecology Diet ( can be found online.) The Body Ecology Diet is perhaps laid out in greater detail in their book. Both are similar to the Paleo, low carb diet, however the Paleo diet excludes all grains, whereas these include quinoa, millet and fermented foods such as kefir.
