Also how old are you and what are your stats?

I know the feeling of not being able to bulk when lifting. I had seb derm for 2 years before I took up lifting seriously. I never got it diagnosed though as it wasn’t much of a problem back then. No flakes, no itchiness, just a little redness that came and went. Then 2 years in, while on a particularly dirty bulk my seb derm gradually got worse. I was eating a lot of pasta, bread, gainers, full fat ice cream, pies etc. I am an ectomorph so I can basically eat what I want and when bulking I really needed to go all in to maintain a calorie surplus.

Foolishly I never made the connection between my diet and skin getting worse; just like any dermatologist will tell you there is relationship between diet and skin problems.

I continued to lift for 6 more months and then quit completely and started cleaning up my diet.

My skin got better but the damage was pretty much done and as most people come to learn once seb derm gets a hold of your skin and spreads it’s damn hard to get rid of. In addition to this I lost about 30 pounds of lean mass in the process which certainly wasn’t a confident boost either.

After a 2 year hiatus I have slowly started going to the gym again. One of the reasons being I enjoy it and lack other interests/hobbies (apart from going out drinking with friends).

I am currently taking things slow but as I up my carb intake I feel the dryness and redness coming back.
I hope I am not doomed from physical exercise for the rest of my life. That would really suck.
I have the same problem.I also enjoy going to the gym( because of my skin I dont like to go out much except for the gym).

But like you I have trouble gaining weight, so this kind of diet is not an option for me even though I think it could help my skin a little bit.

Right now im I feel like my SD i getting worse anyway so Im pretty much eating anything I feel like(pizza, burgers, gainers etc)

Sometimes I wish was fat so I didnt have think about food all the time..

    @ johny

Are lentils and beans allowed or all they also in the starch category? I think paleo doesn't allow lentils and beans which confuses me cause I always heard how healthy beans and lentils are.

And do you know how you diagnose leaky gut? I asked my intern about it and he googled it and said that this isn't a real diagnosis and that it comes from alternative medicine and he said if I had a leaky gut then I'd have digestion problems. How can a person know if she has a leaky gut?

I should update. Keto, low carb paleo or candida free type diets or any diet that is low in carbs for me helps my skin. The results for me happen quickly and they are pretty significant however they don't cure my condition in anyway. If they are not strictly adhered to then the results aren't present. I find I have to eat less than 50 grams of carbs a day to have any improvement.

Recently, well a couple of months ago I fell of the bandwagon again. I've been taking low dose accutane from a prescription I got before and been using about 20-30mg a week and eating like a moron. I put so much time and energy into the dieting and was expecting a full turn around I think which I don't believe will ever happen with my skin. Hopefully in time I will have the willpower to maintain a beneficial diet again and for right now i'm just using the accutane which keeps my skin under control to a degree and lets me focus my energy on other things. I'm sure you all know this feeling. I needed a break from constantly trying to improve skin.

Johny I do know exactly what you mean. It's a strange feeling. I feel totally empowered by the knowledge that if I go Alchahol/sugar/caffeine/cigarrette free and combine with running and other excercise, then keep it up for... say a month or 2 months, I can guarantee you that I can bring the whole mess under control. Then when my skin is better, I see all these things as treats, and tell myself, I've done well, I'm looking better, perhaps this is where it will stay. And within a couple of weeks of bad eating, it starts into a deeper/redder/flakier/irratated cycle again, culminating in me feeling actually a bit helpless and disempowered that I have to go through the whole thing again.

Annie, that's really interesting about the olive oil. I use the coconut oil (organic) and it does help for moisturising. I do however, sometimes use olive oil too though. That's crazy to know that the yeast multiplies even faster in the olive oil. I just bought a magnesium face cream today, that you put on at night (after all the years at this, I'm still throwing cash at it all - I know where you are coming from regarding the product you bought), and I know for a fact it's made with water, magesium and olive oil. Here we go again. Apologies for the conspiracy theories, it's not my style, but if you wanted to design a better "income producing fungus" to send out there, the pharmaceutical industry could not come up with anything more profitable than Seb Derm. It must make billions for all of the companies.

First post. I had to after I read the entire thread over the last hour. My story is so similair to yours. Same approaches ,same conclusions.
Since this is an old thread Im not sure I'll get a response but any updates?
Im going keto today. I feelm your pain on being tired of spending time on skin health. Also not looiking forward to diminished gains on lifting.
Some background on me i developed seb derm 7 or so years ago my flare ups i say are severe. My best results have been through diet. Ive tried all the diets youve mentioned and keto has by far produced the best results.
Ive been trying to pin point any changes that went on when I got my first symptoms.I broke my foot at work, sat around home drinking and put on about 30 pounds. Since then Ive never leaned out except on a couple low carb diets which is when I noticed my symptoms dissipated.Drank pretty regular since then also. Hey Im irish.
So now my new years resolution is to find out what works for me and stick with it as long as I can. My approach is going to be keto diet with sn emphasis on consuming anti fungal oils as my supplements. Coconut and sesamin for starters. Alcohols out and Im Im thinking an emphasis on liver health. I dont buy into the holistic liver flush. I thing all your doing is creating a caustic environment in your colon and producing whats basically lye soap they call liver stones. Im taking Liv 52 and milk thistle for starters. Ill post my results if this thread gets a nre life or Ill just create a new one. O

Hello, I'm the guy who cleans his face with Lysol wipes and now I'm SD free.
I also started a diet 1 year ago with no sugar (I use stevia when I crave sugar) very low carbs (no bread, potatoes, pasta, rice), LOTS of green tea.
I think this diet made me feel 20 years younger, I lost 26 pounds and feel better than ever. I used to have heart burn, high blood pressure, angina, shortness of breath, high cholesterol, fast heartbeat, knees pain, skin problems and now I feel great.
Good luck to all of you.

While i wouldn't advocate the lysol wipes, i 100% agree with the diet. No sugar, very low carbs, lots of greens. Stick with that for a month and you should feel a lot better. The diet is not easy by any means but everyone is capable of at least 1 month. Every time you have an urge to eat something unhealthy just think if you want to have another flair again. Starting anything is always the hardest step.

People react differently to supplements, what has worked wonders for me is ACV, VCO, garlic and Oil of Oregano (all anti fungals).

    This can be defeated!

Could you please tell me what "VCO" is? Thank you for your comments. Very informative.

It's virgin coconut oil. I add 2-3 drops of oil of oregano w/ 1 table spoon of vco and eat it 3 times daily. Otherwise depending on what form you get the oil of oregano in, it can burn your lips and tongue.

People have seb derm for various reasons and there are many different factors so everyones regimine will be different. It's about finding what supplements and diet work for you and sticking to them.

I also recomend alternating antifungals every 2 weeks or so. Oil of oregano w/ vco followed by 2 weeks of raw garlic.
