    Hi Judy,

I was on clonidine for about 3 months late last year (25-50mcg as needed with a maximum of 300mcg per day). Unfortunately I too developed hair loss among many other nasty side effects. It started about 1 month into taking the medication and continued steadily through to about 2 months after stopping it. It was the only adverse effect that lingered after stopping it - all the others cleared within the first week after stopping. I estimate I probably lost about 50% of my hair - it was a significant amount! Its a known adverse effect but I haven't been able to find any literature on regrowth of the lost hair. I can't really tell if my lost hair has started to regrow yet either. Just another blow to the ego I guess. Best of luck

    from Dani

    Dear Dani,

    A partner-in-crime at last!

As clonidine reduces blood flow to the face/head, it would make sense that it would cause hair to shed/fall too easily, did you notice that there is a while bulb on the

    hair that falls?

I am taking zinc & also Brewers yeast tablets to help with new hair growth.

I am really sorry to hear that you suffered too, my Derm said he didn't think it was one of the side effects..........it is rare, but a side effect none-the-less.

    How is your hair now?

Massaging the scalp helps stimulate new hair growth and I am confident that your hair WILL recover, everything I have researched tells me so, just takes a little longer

    that's all.

I was only ever taking 50mcg twice per day & I am NOT a tiny woman, just goes to show how powerful a drug it is!

As you say just another blow to the ego!

Did it actually help with your flushing & are you on any other meds?

    Hugs to you!

    Judy

    John,

I didn't start noticing hair loss until week 5 and then it was quite subtle, don't panice it is indeed a rare side effect, but not one many of us would like to go with our

    red & painful faces!!!

    Exclamation

Went to see Prof Chu for a follow up appointment & I am the FIRST person to report hair shedding/loss to him whilst on clonidine.

It IS listed as a side effect (all be it a rare one)!

Ho hum! Onward & Upward (I hope!).

Any update on this? Im considering taking this drug for my constant rosacea, but my hair is quite thin already from accutane and if it really causes hair loss im too scared to try it... might just continue hammering away with IPL :P

Male 22 here, been on Clonidine for flushing for many months now. Only side effect i experienced was dry eyes in the first 3 days or so.

Can i ask how is IPL going for you? Any improvement on flushing? Is it worth it? Thanks.
