Ah, Mr. Borrows, nice to see you here! I have actually read Rosacea 101 and I thought it was quite informative. I was not referring to you, but rather to the natural inclination of most rosacea sufferers: over-reductionism. We all want to narrow complex things down and we all go to far with it sometimes. And, there are many people out there selling us rosacea suffers snake-oil, so I always try to remind people not to become fixated on one "cause" or trigger because then they'll miss other things that are happening in their body and mind due to that tunnel-vision. Concerning the inflammatory protein study, I was referring to the Gallo study and I do hope they go further with it. As for carbs, I still keep mine low but I don't obsess about it. I think the amount of stress caused by obsessing out-weights the benefits of abstaining from small amounts of "goodies". That's how it is for me, though, it is different for others. Also, I only have trouble with gluten and refined cane-sugar. The others don't bother me much. The only way I found that out was by keeping a log. It was not some detailed Nasa-type log but enough for me to get some clarity. This is a tough disease....so it's hard to generalize. It basically comes down to experimentation, and that's why I think it's important to keep a log and to keep tunnel-vision at bay. Best of luck to all fighting this nonsense.

Sounds like a rational approach. Keep up the good posts and keep us informed on your findings.

    Default Sugar Sensitivity...

I have been reading about sugar sensitivity and it relates to me big time!! I believe I am sugar sensitive. I know many have seen improvements after reducing sugar/carbs from their diet. Here is a great link about it:

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I have just pinpointed one of my triggers as being cane-sugar. I also have been following a gluten-free diet for 3 years due to digestive issues. Finally, I am following a low vitamin e diet because after keeping a food diary, I have discovered that my food triggers had a common element of being high in vitamin e. Interestingly, cane sugar contains high levels of octacosanol, a chemical which is very similar to vitamin e. Default Cured with low-carb diet? Back to normal diet?

Have any of you cleared your symptoms with a low-carb diet and then were able to return to a normal diet after some time? I have been doing the low-carb thing for a while and I just want to know if anyone has been able to get back to the way things used to be?

On vacations and a few times I have gone off my low carbohydrate diet and ate high carbohydrate. Sometimes I get no rosacea flare ups. But over a period of days or a week if I continue to eat high carbohydrate, particularly sugar, my rosacea comes back with a vengeance. I simply know that I have to get it under control again and reduce my carbohydrate drastically and within a week my face returns to normal. Diet trigger avoidance is simply one way to control rosacea. It doesn't cure it. Neither does taking Oracea or applying metronidazol. There is no cure for rosacea. Once is a blue moon you will hear a report of rosacea going into remission but these reports are few.
