Unhappy Looking for a dream Make-up that doesn't exist.... (rant)

I think I've researched, like at least 100 different makeup brands, foundation and concealers and could become a cosmetics engineer by now.

What I need is a full-coverage make-up that does not include these things:

no bismuth oxychloride, talc, fragrance/parfum, vitamin A (retinyl palmitate), petrolatum, chemical sunscreens, powdered sunscreen, lanolin, salicyclic acid, natural ingredients like willow bark, seeds, grapeseed, citrus, raspberries etc (allergies)

AND has to come in super pale.

I mean, seriously. I can't find anything. As soon as I think it's perfect, ie. CoverFx Natural they sneak in a crappy ingredient like salicyclic acid. How is that good for sensitive skin? Dermablend looks very promising but they have like 4 colours.

Right now I'm using Paula's Choice All Bases Covered SPF 15, but the coverage isn't that good.

    I'm frustrated.

Should I hire a makeup artist to research for me? I'll seriously spend $100 on a foundation I'm that desperate.

I love dermablend and use it only as and where needed and it looks natural and doesn't irritate my skin. I use the pale ivory color and I think you can order a sampler pack with a few different colors so you can see what color would work best for you. I'm not positive they still offer that but give them a call or check out the dermablend website. Good luck.

    Hi,

Maybe Lycogel Foundation would work for you?

    INCI:Water, Isododecane, Butylene/Ethylene/Propylene
    Copolymer,
    Cyclopentasiloxane, PEG/PPG-20/15 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol,
    Diocetyldodecyl Dodecaneodioate, Silica, Methicone, Polyglyceryl-4
Isostearate, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/ Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Nylon
-12, Sodium Chloride, Iron Oxides, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract,
Penoxyethanol, Cyclomethicone, Quaternium - 18 Hectorite, SD Alcohol
    40, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben

The Lycogel doesn't have a strong coverage though.
You could use the Veil concealer for areas which need stronger cover, and the Lycogel on top for the rest of the face.

(This is the best combination I've found so far, but still not 100% happy with the results, as the Lycogel is a bit dry and can make the skin look flakey if you have already dry skin.)

Hey Melissa! I've used dermablend YEARS ago. It did cover WONDERFUL... but I felt like it rubbed off pretty easily if I hugged someone and my face was mooshed into their coat or shirt or something. Does it tend to do that to you? It may have been because my face was pretty oily at the time as well..so mayb that broke it down a bit. Unless they changed the formula at all? It was prob at least 5 years ago that I used it. ;o) I dont remember it breaking me out at all.

    Thanks guys for your input.

I tried a sample of Dermablend in Opal (lightest shade - 15) at Shopper's and it was too yellow for me For a coverup company I think they should seriously widen their colour choices. I will try contacting them anyway and voice my complaints.

Thanks GiGi for the suggestion. I do see they have SD Alcohol 40 in it. (forgot to add alcohol to my restriction list) I'm pretty sure that would dry out my skin The rest of it seems good though!

Does the Veil website list the ingredients? I couldn't find them anywhere.

Did you use a finishing translucent powder to set the makeup? If you lightly apply a translucent powder over the dermablend application it sets the makeup so it shouldn't rub off. Hope that helps!

    Hi,

I have pale skin and can tolerate:

    Jane Iredal mineral foundations
    Clinique almost makeup
    La Praire foundation skin caviar
    Laura Mercier foundation liquid

I'm also searching for better ones. The two first ones are good, but I'd like a liquid foundation since my skin is so dry all the time. Number 3 is quite good, but very expensive. Number 4 is ok, but you're supposed to use a primer, which is irritating my skin.

I'm also looking for a good concealer which is covering well, but isn't too dry and it should be availeble in Europe.

Hey, paint, have you tried primers? They are non-reactive and form a nice canvas for your foundation. I think they might even keep hurtful stuff away from your face. You might get a good primer and try some of your old foundations again!

I think so too! I think it's the reason I can wear Dior Nude foundation, which has chemical sunscreen ingredients in it.

But anyway, it covers really, really well, and topped with one of their powders (Invisible Retouch), it's the best I've found so far. Will it last during hot weather? Probably not, but will anything, really?

Oh....SalsaNorway, are you using Laura Mercier's primer? It has witch hazel and a few other irritating ingredients in it. I use a "plain" one from Lancome.

I haven't worn makeup for over two years. Prior to that I had a battle finding something which met all my needs.

I am probably not the best person to be making suggestions.

    However......

When I was at my mother's house last year, she was speaking favourably about her new foundation and I thought I would test it.

It was Pure finish, Mineral Powder Foundation, SPF 20, by Elizabeth Arden

    http://shop.elizabetharden.com/produ...entPage=family

Previously I had tested about three different brands of mineral foundation and hated them all.
Reasons. Irritating. Difficult to apply. Really difficult to remove.
Amplified all structural imperfections, which in my case meant my IPL damage looked much, much worse. Fine lines and pores became exagerated. Cakiness was awful. After a short time, my face looked like an oil slick.

I was pleasantly surprised with the result of Pure Finish.
It toned down my redness and even camouflaged the remnants of melasma.
Didn't emphasize imperfections. In fact I felt it disguised them.
It was fairly easy to apply and the light brushing didn't irritate the hell out of my skin.
I only wore it for a few hours, but it was durable and still looked good as time passed.
Easily removed with gentle cleanser, and my skin didn't mind the washing too much.
There was no after removal flare. Just my usual post touch, cleanse reaction.

    I have highly reactive skin.

Here is a random review I found on the internet.
    It also lists the ingredients.

    http://www.themineralmakeup.com/mine...20/02/09/2009/
Previous Numerous IPL, Sulfacetamide 10%/Sulphur 3%.
Supplements: Discontinued High dose Vitamin D3, L-Glutamine (sometimes), Ascorbic Acid, Multi Vitamins, Tumeric, BHCL, Digestive Enzymes,
    Skin Care: Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser.

Started CAP (combined antibiotic protocol for Cpn) on 9 Nov 2010.
Discontinued due to rare and nasty reaction to metronizadole.
Treating for gut infections under specialist care.
