    Default Dhea

I thought I'd start a thread about this just to sort of put it on the radar and see if anyone cares to try it for a few weeks. Between this and low-dose D3, I get spectacular results. These two supplements, along with trigger avoidance, have enabled me to live a normal life. I take 25mg of DHEA twice/day, as it apparently has a very short half-life.

There are concerns about DHEA byproducts (testosterone and estrogen) causing their own problems and possibly helping existing tumors to grow, so if you're concerned about that or if you're under 40, I wouldn't go higher than 25mg, or even better, use the 7-keto form of DHEA instead. I have not used 7-keto so I can't vouch for it having the same effect on my rosacea.

I've done a ton of reading on DHEA, and the opinions vary between "wonder drug" and "snake oil". I've concluded that the truth is somewhere in the middle. I know that when I started dosing again after a month off of it, the effect on fatigue was profound. That night I should have been exhausted, but felt terrific. Don't take this stuff at bedtime.

This is the thread that originally made me try it:

I've never experienced the anxiety he did.

    1,000 IU D3
    50mg zinc
    50mg magnesium chelate
    25mg diphenhydramine HCI
    10mg DHEA
    Psyllium fiber
    Pure Protein bar
Drink filtered/bottled water only, wash with tepid water/moisturizing soap, filtered shower head, Rosacea Care moisturizer, tinted ZincO
I avoid multi-vitamins and most other high-dose vitamins and supplements, oil-based supplements (like omega 3/6, A, and E), nitrite preservatives, probiotics, sugar, fruit, alcohol, caffeine, exercising in a warm room

    Sounds very intriguing.

    1. What is it?
    2. Have you got any links to info?
    3. What were your symptoms?
    4. What happens when you stop taking it?
    5. Any side effects?
    6. Different risks for men and women?

    glad for your continued success!

PS - Steve, the guy you mention in your post who started that thread has something else up his sleeve I thought you might find interesting http://www.rosaceagroup.org/The_Rosa...981#post248981

    1. DHEA is a steroid hormone. A little is known about its effects, but not enough.

    2. A few random links:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dehydroepiandrosterone
    http://altmedicine.about.com/od/dhea/a/dhea.htm
    http://www.drdebe.com/dhea-the-real-story.html
    and the negative:

Keep in mind that was written in 1996 when even less was known about DHEA.

    3. Mainly flushing and constant redness.

    4. In my case, I didn't notice any change except maybe slight fatigue, but that coould also be attributed to my schedule. There was no rebound flushing.

    5. Some people have trouble sleeping. I don't, but I don't take it at night. I do experience noticeably better muscle gain after workouts, but I don't experience any increase in libido. Don't need any

    6. Yes. See some of the links above.

There's a lot more to read than just what I posted, so the best thing you can do is google "DHEA".

I'm thinking about cycling it - taking it for a few days a week. The prostrate thing does concern me, although I recently had a very thorough blood screening for cancer by a life insurance company, and they put me in their highest bracket (i.e., least likely to die in the next 20 years).

Hi John - Any updates? Anyone else try DHEA? Does anyone believe Rosacea is due to some kind of hormonal/adrenal imbalance?
