    Default Is Acupuncture a cure?

Has anyone here had great results from acupuncture to heal their Rosacea? Pro or con I would love to hear from you. How about Chinese herbs?

I went for acupuncture for my appetite. That with the herbs really did help. I have to go back for more.

Can an acupuncturist deal with several aliments at the same time per session? Or must it be one at a time?

    Thanks

    Hi Joe Joe,

I have acupuncture done weekly for rosacea. My acupuncturist swears that she has had good luck working with rosacea patients and can help me. From my perspective I don't really know if it is helping my rosacea but I do find it very relaxing an do look forward to my session each week. I'm going to stick with it for a bit and see how it turns out.

Rosacea is the sort of condition that usually takes more than one type of treatment to control. If an acupuncturist is telling you that he can cure your rosacea then they are overstating things somewhat.

I used to have acupuncture weekly and whilst it did temporarily change my pattern of flushing that massive flushes that I used to get whilst actually having the treatment made me decide not to continue forever. I would say that it worth a go but in combination with other treatments.

Acupuncture has been shown time and again to be merely placebo, so no.

Firstly, that's an over-simplistic answer: acupuncture has been shown to have very real effects when used to treat certain ailments. As for the placebo effect, well I don't know whether it works with rosacea, but any placebo effect - if it works - is to be welcomed. And it's clear that the placebo effect does indeed have an effect on some people for some ailments.

Low back pain is one problem that responds to acupuncture, and not, apparently, because of the placebo effect. Study below:

I have anecdotal stories of success regarding acupuncture from very trusted sources. My mother and a few of my close friends.

My mother had acupuncture done for a few years for pain management and it was hugely helpful. Unfortunately though the results for her only lasted while she had ongoing acupuncture treatments and it got to be too expensive so I don't think she goes anymore but she did very well with this treatment. Ditto some of my friends.

And to me, anecdotal evidence from people I trust is just as good (maybe better) than scientific studies. Every person is unique and we should be careful of using blanket statements involving the words always and never.

I'm skeptical about that seeing as it doesn't mention which studies were used. Further, the study appears to be biased because of the simple fact that Eric Manheimer and the University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine was part of it. Both are notorious for misinterpreting studies to fit their view.
