    Default anti anxiety/stress meds/relationships/diet....

i first broke out w/ rosacea when going thru deep problems w my girlfriend of 6 yrs....
it was only on the left side of my face
eventually it cleared up a yr later, but as anxiety/stress carried on i went on
benzodiazepines (xanax) for a yr i had no problems, then as my job as a
chef in a 110 deg humid kitchen in the summers started to irritate (hard!) the right side
of my face and has for the last 4 yrs..its become worse each yr as my responsibilities
have grown. ..also i feel a tingling about 2 days before it hits me hard (not just flush)
but it always clears up in the winter..(i DRINK ALOT all year around but w/ little reprocussions) .prolly because lack of humid/heat..
only recently its hitting me in the winter (only when i use opiates, which i have stopped)
now with medical problems hitting me AND woman problem resurfacing, i switched to
klonopin (a benzo as well) and im having trouble figuring out if its the med problems, the medication or the woman or all 3! has anybody ever had problems w/ certain benzodiazepines (stress/anxiety meds)?
does anybody else feel tingling on the side of your face 3 dayz before it hits!?
or could it be the xtremely high stress going on?
my diet stays pretty much the same....but every once in a while i suspect preservatives/additives in certain foods that i dont normally eat.

im new here so any direction that will lead me will be a better direction than the road im on now!!! oh and ive used 2 different metonidazole creams for yrs and they DONT control it in anyway that i have noticed it.

Default woman and benzy's a lethal cocktail!

    hello jazzkid,

just thought to let u know im sharing your pain brother! just had yet another relationship brake down because of the limits this damned accurssed thing puts on your living.

i have in the past dropped many types of anti-anxiety tabs and have found that they dont in anyway worsen the problem. For me they help to relieve the stress and that is such a comfort. But eventually the body addapts and the effects wear off. what works best for me is valium or diazepam. they at least break the vicious cycle of fearing it coming on which is normally enough to bring it on regardless of triggers, climate etc.

    All the best buddy!

Hi Jazzkid and welcome to the RF

Stress definitely makes things worse so first of all I would suggest something that can relax and calm you. Yoga, meditation, whatever will soothe your nerves.

The benzo's could be aggravating the condition but not sure. If you recently started Xanax and noticed a worsening I wonder if you could ask your doctor to try Remeron as some people here find it actually helps their rosacea. Ofc everyone's different so can't say for sure.

I would be careful of alcohol and certain food groups. Though you may not notice anything right away they could cause delayed reactions. Something to consider.

Default when I take the benzos

When I take the benzos I drink lots of water.

I don't think they do much harm to the skin.

How do you get your benzos? I recently have thought about getting some again.

    Sorry things are going rough.

i have been on xanax for years now and i know that doesnt aggravate it, but i asked
my dr.to switch me to klonopin (clonzepan) for its muscle relaxant properties
and within 2 days it hit. BUT i felt the tell tale tingling that hits me a few dayz before it
comes on hours before my dr.s appointment.
whats strange is problems with love/women usually will hit one side, and other stress
i.e. work,dr's, hospital and some illegal drugs hits the right cheeks!

Melissa, last rx i got for metronidazole, it cost 80'$! and without insurance, i cant afford
all these dr/hospital appointments and pay for another cream. not to mention my studies say its an antidepressant and nothing to do w rosacea
i prefer not to take an antidepressant AND anti anxiety.

as for alcohol, i can drink any beer/wine/liqour all winter long without any problems
so i doubt it has to do w/ that.

im thinking its the xtra high anxiety due to my fear of drs/hospitals

does anybody else feel tingling a few days before it hits you?

Default Two bottles of red wine

Two bottles of red wine would really break my rhythm...across the board.... I don't know what it is about red wine but it sure does toy with my system.

    And it's really good!

    Funny how that works...

yea, when i first got rosacea i was always hangin w my best friend who had cases of wine (a wine salesman) and we'd sit and play guitar and pound down wine all the time...could never figure it out, but again severe women problems seemed to me to be the case... never pondered wine because Sake doesnt have any effect on me. normally i can drink boxes of cheap white wine w no problem but the last big bottle of red fucked me up (uh, inflamed the rosacea)
also i noticed i cant sleep on the side of my face that is inflamed or it gets worse.

Default layers and layers of red...

How have you been doing friend? Cutting back on the alcohol yet?

You know, I never wanted to admit that alcohol was causing a problem with my body. In fact, all drugs in general I was very adamant on finding ways to justify how they could possibly help.

I've gone so far as to take LSD with the secret ambitions to find out what is going on at the heart of my rosacea. I took it at a clothing optional beach at a lake on a sunny day!!! Talk about facing your fears!!!!

But overall I think the key to clearing the rosacea up is to silence the mind. To give it time to think out what is going on. The fact that are symptoms of blushing and flushing come from shame and anger are not to be overlooked. Sometimes it comes from being rushed.

Slow it down. This is what I tell myself. If my face could feel like it does right now while I am typing this tonight... man, I would have no problems. Just got through doing a long bout of stretching while playing this meditation music. (Yes, sitar and ocean waves, with a hint of piano!) My face is cool as ever. It feels wonderful. And I did this last night... today I did not flush once... things have been good for me lately.

So I guess I am just trying to say hang in there and give the drug free route a chance for a spell. Or not... it's whatever... just saying hi more than anything...

p.s. As for the lsd trip while contemplating rosacea.... layers of layers of red surfaced to my minds eye... the heat of it all... embarrassment and anger were so clearly locked together in a vicious cycle... this feeling of a flush was something that was hurtful to my body and to my soul...and it came from shame.... from a lack of good intentions... the flush... from a feeling that energy was wasted day in and day out on useless grudges.... that I didn't give life my all.... that I harbored a secret resistance to the processes of life...yes, it was as if all the wasted energy demanded to be used and if not it would manifest itself in the center of my face where it could not be ignored... the flush was explosion of emotion... millions of thoughts all congested up and impossible to process.... it was a brain lock... a traffic jam... it was the sound of car alarms going off... of dogs growling at each others throats... it was tension....

    RED RED RED RED!!!!

So, I guess what I am trying to say is that I think processing your emotions is very important... and for me drugs and alcohol were about doing the exact opposite.
