    Default Suspicious ingredients?

I’m not really sure if this is the right section to ask this question..

Before I set the question, here’s a little intro: I have a problem with nose burning, flushing, redness and swolling..I’m trying to figure out why is this happening.

I’m using make up to try to cover up that redness (lately it’s becoming mission imposible). Anyway, I’m using MaxFactor “Crème Puff”, and I really like it, but it seems to me that since I started using it, my flushes became even more severe. Maybe I’m just imagining this or maybe this has got nothing to do with this product but is related with something else.

But I just want to be sure, so please can anyone tell me could something of the following ingredients be a trigger or cause a flushing and swolling: Talc, Titanium Dioxide, Calcium Carbonate, Paraffinum Liquidum, Parfum, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Lanolin, Methtylparaben, Propylparaben, , Polysorbate 60, BHA, Amyl Cinnamal, Benyyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Citronellol, Coumarin, Eugenol, Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellol, Isoeugenol, Linalool, Evemia Rrunastri Extract.

Sorry if it’s a stupid question..but if anyone can provide me with replay, I would be very thankful.

I once used Max Factor Creme Puff with dire effect. I think the colour was Tempting Touch (or similar), it was many years ago but I remember my neck came out in dreadful lumpy, painful spots. I think the culprit may have been the salicylate.

There are so many variables involved that it is impossible to know, from individual ingredients. In these circumstances, the best thing you can do is to pay close attention to your skin's reaction, stop the product, observe any changes, start it again, observe any changes... and so on, until you've established if anything is happening.

    But speculating:

Polysorbate 60 - is an emulsifier/surfactant. That means it will mix with your skin's natural oils. (Its purpose in the product will just be to make all the ingredients mix together). Anything which does that will also wash away those oils, to some degree. When you wash away the oils, that obviously leaves the skin a little stripped, hence slightly more vulnerable. It will be a tiny effect, but still.

Citronellol, Eugenol, Geraniol, Linalool - These and probably a few others are fragrances, but they also have the property of being able to penetrate the skin. (They belong to a group of ingredients called "penetration enhancers". Anything which allows active ingredients to get past your skin's barriers). I have found in the past, when experimenting with related ingredients (basil oil, mint oil, thyme oil - these are the same, and their proper names have the same "...nol" or "...ool" ending) that they really worsen flushing. I think they must be irritating the blood vessels or something.

Hey! Thank you both so much for these quick replays.

Sally, I also suspected that salicylate is one of ingredients that may be causing my flushes to be more severe..but I wasn’t sure (because I obviously don’t have any adecuate knowledge in this area). So it was just a guess.

Thank you very much TheMediumDog for clearing this up for me. This is all very usefull to know. But.. I guess that I’ll have to play everyones “favorite” game of trial and error.

And any suggestion what is safe to use to cover this redness up? But please, I’m from Europe, Serbia..so I do not have the opportunity to buy Linda’s products that most of the folks here recommend. On this market there are just products like MaxFactor, L’oreal, Maybelline, Pupa, Deborah, Lancome..you know..brands like that..

    Thank you.

Hey I’ve just seen that there is a tread in Topical and Oral products concerning make up, cover up..products.

So I’ll try to find the answer to my question there.

I read in a beauty magazine article that talc, causes breakouts!!!http://www.dermadoctor.com/images/ma...ention0310.pdf

I am currently using Clinique's Almost Powder and the main ingredient is talc, but fortunately I don't think is making me breakout.

    Is that true? OMG!!!

This product search drives me nuts!!!

There's always something about an ingredient!!
