Unhappy Skin swelling & burning around my eyes. Can anyone help?

    Hello eyeryone,

I have had rosacea for 10 years now and have seen dozens of doctors and opthamologists. I would llike to know if anyone has encountered this problem? The skin around my eyes (under and above) burn a lot. It is quite painful - like having a sunburn around your eyes. When I am in sunlight or eat non-recommended rosacea food (i.e. dairy, chocolate, or carbs in general), the skin around my eyes swell. Not always burn but swell. I am at the point where I rarely go without eyeliner because the constant swelling has caused permanent creases (wrickles) under my eyes. My eyes are gritty and very very light sensitive. This seems to be the major problem with my rosacea, more so than the actual skin condition, although I do get a lot of facial burning.

I have been looking for some type of remedy for this for 10 years to no avail. Even to have an understanding of why it happens would be most helpful. Can anyone help?

    Thanks so much

    Wendy

    Hi Wendy,

I am so sorry you are having this problem. It can be a challenge to get it under control but I know you can do it.

There is so much helpful info in this thread that I would ask you to read it when you get a chance and then if you still have questions I could try and help you.

(with special emphasis on reading posts #6,7,8 for your issues)

What have your eye doctors told you about this problem and what have they suggested you do to treat it?

    Best wishes,
    Melissa

    Thank you for your response.

The skin around my eyes the last couple of days is burning. It is the same burning sensation felt when the rest of my face burns but as you can imagine is far more painful on the skin around my eye. I look terrible. Dark circles under my eyes and grittiness and dryness in my eyes as well as the continuous burning. I cannot use cold compresses or anything around my eyes. In fact warm compresses would be far worse. I rarely touch my eyes and rarely take off my eyeliner. I took it off yesterday gently with vaseline and the immflamation got worse. I cannot even put my head under the shower. And, on top of all this, any eating of the wrong thing or going into the light (and I mean even turning on the washroom light at night) creates this swelling which has caused permanent wrinkles. It is so upsetting. Am feeling quite depressed.

Also lost most job a few months back so have the added stress of going to interviews looking rotten. I JUST WANT IT TO STOP!!!!

    Hey there,

I too get this and I an thinking about red light therapy. It seems to have helped people ifor the swelling around the eyes..I am just not sure if you need to wear goggles. I have a unit that is mixed red and infrared and it says in the instructions to absolutely wear glasses. It comes with these big and actually cool looking protective glasses. The truth is that I would want the light to hit all around the eye and the skin on the eyelids too.. But there is a way to turn off the infra red which I have not figured out.. My machine is a little complicated. I know people have posted that they do not wear protective eyewear for plain red light. It does scare me some, so I will close my eyes at the very least, even with all red. I do not think I would do infrared around my eyes. My friend who gave me the machine is a doctor, and against no goggles or glasses, even for all red. I am going to inquire more about this, and if all is safe but it might be worth a go.
    Best regards,
    Lin
