    Default Rosacea?

Hey just trying to figure out what the hell is going on with my face lol. Dermatologist says definetly not rosacea, but i have blood vessels under eyes and (very hard to see) ones on nose. I also experience flushing periodically, personally I think it is rosacea what do you guys think? (redness is a bit worse in photo than it usually would look)

    Thanks- Dan.

    Hi Dan and welcome.
What condition does your derm say you do have?
Why does he not think the flushing is rosacea related? What does he say that is due to? There are so many conditions/diseases that can resemble roscea and none of can diagnose you from a picture. Why don't you tell us a bit more about your other symptoms and what your derm has told you and maybe we can offer some input. I always recommend a second opinion from another doctor when in doubt.

    Best wishes,
    Melissa

    Thanks for your response
Well basically he thought I just had mild acne (not sure of the scientific name?) so he prescribed me with tazorac cream. He believes that the flushing and redness is a side effect of the cream, and he also said the redness is hormones. I very rarely get actual pimples just those red bumps. I took myself off tazorac a few months ago because it seemed unnecessary.. and I supposed the redness has gone away somewhat..but its been at the point its at for a while now and it doesnt seem to be going anywhere. I have been using the eucerin redness relief line for a few months.

Heres another pic taken like a month ago if it helps (obviously most of the problem is focused on my cheeks)

    Hi Dan,

So do you not experience flushing since you d/c'd the Tazorac?
If you do have rosacea I would stay away from all acne meds as they are usually too harsh on our rosacea skin.

Yah my bad I think I fixed the pic thing. I do still experience flushing, but it is decreasing gradually and becoming less frequent. However, the blood vessels on my face have been showing up more.. is it possible that these are from stress ,lack of sleep, etc?

I think you do need a second opinion from another derm. There are many conditions that mimic rosacea that you can read about in the similar and coexisting section but a good derm should be able to tell acne from rosacea P&P's for sure. I wish I could help you more but a 2nd opinion is the way to go.

Here is a link that you may find helpful.

It may be that you have sensitive skin that is being aggravated by the acne meds. The more aggravated it gets the more you will see the red veins and the more likely you are to flush.

My advice would be to try to find an alternative to the acne topical-perhaps an antibiotic would be better than a topical or something like dalacin T.

Alternatively vitamin D 3 is meant to be very good for acne.

if it is just a reaction to the topical how long do you think that usually lasts? (the flushing and redness)

    thanks

Well if you stop and it was this that was the cause of the problem then the flushing may just fade away. However it may well leave you with more sensitive skin.

How long have you been using the stuff?
