    Lately, I've been listening to:

    The Books

    Nick Drake
    Roxy Music
    Atlas Sound
    Jay Reatard

And all summer I listened to the Clash's 'Combat Rock'. Gave the summer a memorable feeling.

    Stephen,

I love The Books! I haven't heard their new one yet but plan to get it soon. I also love Roxy Music. I've never been able to get into Jay Reatard, however.

Lately, I've been into Hot Chip, Teenage Fanclub, and Robyn. Also the recent Kylie Minogue as a guilty pleasure.

The books are so good. When I listen to/watch/interact with their stuff, i feel parts of my brain that are otherwise dormant, awakening. I listened to Robyn i think last week. That song, 'Hang with me'. A friend of mine thought it was cheesy, but I thought it was spot-on in relation to all the uber-cool stuff going around. Like the books, her music seems to come from a genuine place.
I need to check out some of the others you mentioned.

I've been pretty obsessed with "Hang With Me" the last week. The video is pretty good too. I think you're right about Robyn's music coming from a genuine place. There's not a lot of pop music worth paying attention to the lyrics but Robyn's are generally really good. I saw her at a music festival in July and she was great. She was a fun break from all the quieter indie-rock bands that were performing alongside her.

Haven't read the rest of the thread, but what do you all think of Chiddy Bang? They definitely sample from a wide range of interesting songs and artists, and are pretty sound lyrically. I'm pretty excited to see what their first album will look like. Time to go listen to Opposite of Adults and Truth ad nauseum.
