    Default Papules?

    Hi,
As part of my rosacea I often get what I think are papules appearing on my face and neck - they look like tiny acne pimples and are quite red.
The reason I'm not 100% sure what they are is because they feel a lot like urticaria/hives, which I used to get quite badly in my teens.
It starts with a pinprick-like tingle which turns into an intense itch which lasts about 10-15 minutes. When I look in the mirror I can see what looks like a hive - a small, slighly raised spot with redness around it. The red area can extend to about 3cm. This redness usually takes about an hour to subside. I'm then left with a little red spot which to the untrained eye looks like acne. Sometimes they have the papule bump, other times not.
Does this description sound right for a rosacea flareup/papule?

    Hi flemmo,

    I get a similar thing.
are you using any topical such as metrogel or finacea?

How many I get seems related to anything from using sun screen to eating tomatoes.

Yes I use metrocream (rozex) as its supposed to help P&P's. I'm not sure though - I swear it causes them! I've only been using it for a few days and from what I've read here it can take a few weeks to work properly as it's an antibiotic.
I also use jojoba oil for my seb derm, so I wonder if its the oil causing them? Having said that I can go a few days using the same routine, eating the same foods and be fine, then I'll have a few pop up for no apparent reason

Have you thought of trying finacea?? some say this is better than metro for p&p's.

I was thinking of trying it but will wait untill after all my IPL sessions first.

Things are going quite well since IPL, redness is down a lot although I'm getting a few more p&p's.

did you decide to can your next treatment??

    Hi Moomy,

I've got some Prosacea on its way, so I'll give that a go soon and give finacea a try if it doesn't work for me.
got my 2nd treatment tomorrow. I think I'm going to go through with it. Of course I'll explain how I've got on this past month and see what dr Patterson thinks. If after another month I'm seeing no positive results I'll knock it on the head - its a lot of money for no results. However I'm on the list for a consultation with Dr Crouch, but I'm in for a long wait even for a consultation apparently. Oh well, good things come to those who wait.
