    Default PERMETHRIN

Has anyone used this with success??

I went to my new very well known derm (well published and written about on these boards) for a mole check.

He noticed my rosacea, and scraped the surface of my cheeks. He looked at the flakes under microscope, and found an overload of mites. Hmmmmm - this was a suprise to me.

He informed me that mites are normal, however to have too many mites is a cause of symptoms that mimic rosacea.

I told him about my skinactives products, and asked about how the mites would contribute to my veins. He told me to try the Permethrin 2x a day - a pea sized amount all over my face - and that many people see a huge difference in just 1-2 weeks.

I am to only use this cream, and then my non-irritating moisturizer over it for 2 weeks - then I go back into see him.

Permethrin is normally prescribed for scabies. Yuck!!!

BTW, I only have redness, flushing, and a few visible veins. NO papules or pustules - which was why the mite thing was a surprise.

    thanks!
    Millie

Millie - so his thoughts were that you DON'T have rosacea?

I could not use the cream as it was too drying.

If that happens my derm has me on Ivermectin 2X month. I find it easy to tolerate and it does help a lot. Not a cure for me though, more like a contributing factor.

No, he did say that I did have rosacea, but he was ruling out the mites.

His thoughts were that perhaps the mites were making the rosacea worse.

Christmas is full of horrible triggers and flushing for me - should be an interesting 2 weeks!

    Thanks Duke.

    Millie,
Whatever happened with this? Did it help your rosacea at all?

    Thanks,
    Melissa

ive been using permethrin 2x daily for 2 weeks now. I have seen a subtle improvement in underlying redness, and the itchy bumps that a biopsy confirmed were an infestation of demodex mites.

Sorry to say, Melissa, it didn't help.... It led me, though, to trying ZZ cream, which I am still using approx every other day in the evenings - along with the acarid soap.

The permetherin just wasn't strong enough. I will probably need a few laser treatments on face just to touch up, as testanglesia and redness are peeking through.

The ZZ cream was and is a dream for me - I tried so so so many things, and ZZ cream has worked for me for over a year now!

    Thanks for asking!

    Hi Millie,

I am late to this thread, so I hope you are still around.

Great to hear the zz cream worked for you, but I am a little confused as to what symptoms it actually helped.
You say you will probably need a few laser treatments as the redness etc, are peeking through. So are you saying the zz cream didn't reduce your redness at all?
What about your other symptoms? What were the changes there?

Additionally, is this the stuff which has to be ordered from China?

    Thanks!
