This too was taken 3 years ago. This photo doesnt show my rosacea very well though the redness is still remarkable.

Finally, a photo also taken in 2003, new years day. The complexion seems to be clear, only the redness is remarkable.

I no longer let any photos of mine taken. Since the texture and the redness have worsened.

Doctors never confirm that I have rosacea but I know I do. Btw, I didnt use to have seb derm 3 years ago. I think the texture got worse because of progressive involvement of seb derm... Look at the red lips!! There is a big difference btw now and this photo. The redness actually looks cute on the photo since its only the cheeks but it has spread and its more uneven and doesnt look as natural as on the photo.

Have to agree with you there scrumptious. I would definitely turn red long before I ever realized you were, Francois! Perhaps you were simply too good looking and this has brought you down to a manageable level...

Thank you for the compliments. Some of my friends used to call me "Frodo", the name of Elijah Wood in the series: "Lord of the rings". Anyway, those photos are taken when I am not flushed, so there is permanent redness. Dont you think its rosacea and could be treated by IPL?

The red pattern is the rosacea pattern. I have had this pattern ever since a disastrous Genesis tx 6 weeks ago. Yes, IPL would be something to try but is it available to you?

The weird thing is 4 years ago a derm wanted to treat me with a laser called Pro-Yellow. It didnt work. Afterwards, when I learned more about rosacea, I made research and found out that the laser he used could only treat telangencia, not the diffuse redness.

In my city, I've seen another derm who was Dr. Bitter trained. She totally ignored me. She paid more attention to oiliness on my forehead and dandruff on my eye brows though I told her that my main concern is the flushing and blushing. She said it wasnt rosacea and didnt like it when I insisted. She kept on saying that it is not rosacea but me!! and just use sunscreen....

Then I went to Belgium and have seen a harvard graduate derm who is also Dr. Bitter trained. She said my vessels are too narrow to be treated by IPL. But believe I am much redder than those photos.

I blush, flush with ordinary rosacea triggers. It got worse in years. I am red!!! It burns!! Its the blood vessels on my face.

Another derm I've seen said that I had neurovascular dilation, but not rosacea???? She is a professor of the best known medical school.

I know that I can be treated by IPL but those experienced people says I can not. Dont know what to do....
Any suggestions?

Hey Francois - your derm sounds exactly like mine!! I tried to ask about rosacea and she kept ignoring me and say i had flakey skin around the nose and eyebrows and that it should be treated as SD. It was a very frustrating visit, which is why I'm not even gonna bother going to anymore dermatologists :roll:

Yeah. As I said redness is the main problem. I now look like on the first photo. Derms say that my vessels are too narrow to be treated by IPL. I dont have faith in this. Which laser can treat me better any ideas? IPL, Nd Yag??

Hi Francois

You know I am not a big fan of laser treatments but my Derm did say that if I wanted to rid myself of the 'spider veins' that PDL (Pulsed Dye Laser) was the way to go. I don't know if that was because he would perform the laser treatment himself, at his clinic at the hospital in the city or not? It wasn't going to cost me any money as it would have been covered under the national health scheme. I booked an appointment but later cancelled it.

Anyway, that is what I was told by my Derm. I really haven't done a lot of reading into which is supposed to be the best for each type of Rosacea problem. I'm just too scared to put laser to my face for fear that it may go against me and then I have more to worry about! Arrgghhh!!!!

I had remarkable clearance of telangiectasia on my first IPL ever. It was great. It really does come down to the machine, your specific flavor of rosacea, the practitioner, and how well you pre-flush. I have just gotten what appears to be a decent IPL treatment last week. I'm fairly happy with the clearance provided.

Jen--if you're using red light therapy in conjunction with lasers, the red light should--at least in my experience--markedly speed up any recovery time you need. I went from 4 weeks or so of sensitivity after Gemini treatments to about a week when I used red light after laser treatments.

Yeah, it's kind of gambling but I'd definitely give it a go when(if) I find an experienced practioner. 70-80% improvement in redness would make me alive again!

Maybe you should wait until you get to Canada?! I think you will find more options there for IPL than in Turkey. That's no doubt your plan anyway.

You are a good looking bloke!!! Rosacea or no Rosacea! Be confident in yourself, carry yourself with confidence and the world is your oyster. Yes, a corny saying but I mean it Francois! You are young, good looking and have such a great life ahead of you.

Do try to re-focus...away from your face! I used to focus too much on my face and what I *thought* other people were thinking about me. It doesn't help! Now, I go about life without worrying what others think. I know who I am. I know my face is red (although, internally feeling calm) and not as bad as my bad old days, but still my face is not perfect.

Maybe I should have employed you as my 'Nanny' (au pair) when you were asking?! LOL Trouble is, who could have a good looking Nanny and not be tempted? LOL

She seemed to have forgotton my problem. I went her to ask for what I can do for seb derm. She just prescribed me something. Then just as I was leaving, I asked her if my permanent redness on the cheeks can be reduced by IPL. She said: "Yes indeed, the redness can be eliminated". lol
She was the one who said IPL will not work for me a while ago. Anyway, I am really happy now because if it works it can give me some of my life back...

Hi Francois,

I agree with Quench, don't get too excited about this Derms change of opinion. It could be a dangerous lack of attentiveness on her part.

Why did she say you were not a candidate, and why are you suddenly one now? This is vey important. Look to another thread to see the dangers of IPL performed on the wrong skin. Matt has terrible wounds and scaring. You don't want that to happen to your beautiful face!

when i went to a derm for the first time i asked him if i had rosacea and he agreed that i did and the second time i went again i asked if it was keratosis and he told me that indeed it was keratosis. :)
