View Full Version : Is this rosacea?

I'm new to this forum and would like some feedback on the following photos. I'm a 60 year old, fair-skinned, healthy female (no high blood pressure) who has flushed easily for most of my adult life. I don't drink any alcohol because I learned decades ago that it instantly turned my cheeks and nose red.

Over the past several years the problem has gradually gotten much worse, and the past several months the flushing has been on a daily basis (mid morning and again in the evening, lasting 2-3 hours each time). My cheeks look and feel like I've spent too much time in the sun even though I've always avoided the sun. The burning sensation is very irritating to say the least! I've also started to break out in small "pimples" in the area of the flushing.

I have a doctor's appointment next month and I think I should bring up the subject again even though he's brushed it off more than once in the past.

The first photo was taken yesterday at a time when my face was "normal". The other two are this morning when I was "flushing". Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes that is a moderate case of Rosacea. I strongly suggest you do lots of research from this forum and others and ingest as much knowledge as possible before your condition worsens.

Rubyred,
I would say without a doubt you have rosacea.

Btw, nice photos that showed a diffference in your skin color, showing flush vs. non-flush.

Best,
Trey

Fut,
Wondering why you categorize her as having moderate rosacea? She undoubtedly has a deep red color but is missing any signs of P&P, large pores, and does not have readily apparent broken blood vessels.

Genuine curiousity.

Thanks,
Trey

My god, if this is moderate rosacea then I think I must have the worst case in history! And I thought mine was mild...

Yeah, does look like rosacea but the flushing is mild and not unusual. From the photos Id say mild subtype 1. Keep an eye on it and if it gathers steam maybe look to getting some IPL (but not now).

BB,

Since Rosacea is progressive disorder, do you not think it would be wise to get IPL now before it gets worse? :?

Thanks,
RHC

Possibly.

But (without wishing to cause offense), many women of Ruby's 'maturity' have similar symptoms to this. And from my experience most of them dont progress. IPL seems to be a risky business these days, so if its not necessary Id leave it alone.

But I may be wrong, as Im certainly no rosacea expert!

My mistake. Thought the "flushed" photos were her regular ones. I'd definately goto a consult with a good IPL practioner to see if IPL is right for you.

There are other steps you can take to help your symptoms as well. Look into that!

Yup Rubyred --- looks like rosacea to me although still at the first stage and mild.

I'm like BB...geez if yours is moderate mine is severe and I thought mine was mild

You may be "power surging" (ha-ha) with menopause (I am too) and that's when lots of women experience rosacea getting worse...that plus a natural thinning of the skin that creates even greater sensitivity to anything you put on your face. You may want to try newer products geared for sensitive skin. Can you take HRT? That might help too.

Read as much as you can...
