Hello all,

I found this forum Friday, Went to the doctor Saturday and found out my suspected Rosacea was indeed Rosacea. Been having a hard time with the fact I now have Rosacea. The doctor told me that I have a minor case of Rosacea but after looking at other peoples pictures I think I have a bad case that I hope does not progress to a very bad case.

Anyways please give me any feedback about what class or subtype you would have my signs.

Also I need advice if I should start using the Metrogel first or if I should go straight to V Beam or IPL?

here is my Photo. Now you need to understand I've been in bead all day the last two days, haven't eaten, been depressed and crying, so I look like hell in these photos.

Welcome.

My comments for the pictures are:

You don't have rosacea.
You have pale, clear skin.

Is this the worst you look? I wish ..

Take care

I too see a man with what looks like clear, blemish free skin with a balanced, non red complexion. On what grounds were you diagnosed with rosacea?

The Doctor diagnosed me with Rosacea 2 days ago. Now that I know a little about what Rosacea is, I do remember earlier signs of Rosacea when I was younger.

My cheeks will get red long then most people I noticed, with exercise, cold and wind in the winter, when I drink alcohol, and sun burn on my cheeks in the summers.

I’ll try to make this long story short. About 2 months ago my daughter Ava has red cheeks all day. We didn’t think nothing of it, until about a week later she didn’t seem to be feeling well and we noticed that it seemed like her rash was spreading to her arms and back. At this time I also started having red cheeks like my daughter for days.

We brought Ava to the doctor and the doctor diagnosed her with 5th disease. I asked the doctor about my cheeks and the doctor said I probably have 5th disease also. The doctor said that my daughter probably caught it from day care and gave it to me and because I didn’t have 5th disease as a child I was not immune to it.

The doctor tells me the virus is self limited and my red cheeks will go away in about 4 weeks. Well after 4 week my red cheeks didn’t go away and I just thought everyone is different it might take another week or so. Well another 4 weeks later and my red cheeks still didn’t go away and not my cheeks sting a little, the cheeks skin kind of flakes like dandruff, and I stared to get acne with not head.

I started researching what might be wrong with me and Rosacea and Eczema were the top 2 on my list. After I went to the doctor 2 days ago me asked me some questions about flushing with alcohols and foods, then looked at my skin in the light and said I have Rosacea and gave me a prescription for Metrogel.

I have another appointment with my normal doctor this Thursday. I’m an Army vet so I go to the VA hospital. I’ll have to wait and see if he come to the same diagnosis and wonder what kind of prescription me gives me.

Thanks,

Robert

Also the pictures do seem to show well. I will try and take more pictures and post them and hope they will show better.

I swear my skin is red and bumpy.

It seem to me that the morning my skin has almost no red but they seem to get red through out the day. It also seems that my cheeks seem to get more red over 4-5 days and them almost clear up over the next 2-3 days only to flare up again and start getting red and clear again in the same cycle.

Hello all,

Here is another picture that was taken last night. I think that this picture shows better.

The affected areas are my upper cheeks, and forehead just above the eyebrows.

Gosh Robert --- compared to most of us I think you look great. And from the way your pics look you don't look like you have rosacea! Your skin is basically clear and has a slight pink tinge in the cheeks but that is normal for healthy skin.

You may be picking up some skin stuff from your kids (5th) and you may just have sensitive skin that reacts easily to the grime kids carry around on their hands, etc. I remember my kids constantly touching my face, etc and that could be irritating for you too.

Your doc may have noticed some blood vessels, etc that could be an early sign of rosacea...maybe that's what he's referring to. If so then you're in an extremely early stage of this disease. Metrogel won't hurt and avoiding triggers won't hurt (sun, caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods, etc.) but only make you healthier.

I think the main thing is not to worry...you look great.

P.S. I wish I could have such great looking skin!

I dont see any sign of rosacea. There is no flushing for a start. Most rosacea exhibit some form of redness, even those that dont flush so bad.

My rosacea is mild, my family GP wouldnt even diagnose it. Yet I could show you photos that look a million times worse than yours.

Your skin looks quite normal to me (you lucky bugger  )

Robert - totally agree with other's comments - you may have early rosacea and some care in skincare would be good. but honesty your skin looks lovely! I read once a woman write she felt fat aged 20 but if she'd known at 20 what she'd look like at 40, she'd have run round naked at 20! IF you have rosacea, it may get worse, so run round naked now while you can - be sensible but do it all.

hope that makes sense!

Robert you are bit of a complicated Guy!
Firstly you got the virus from your daughter, and you may still have some effects from that, I got chicken pox from my daughter at 30, I had it on my scalp, when it cleared up I was left with severe dandruff and flaking, something I never had before, this was long before I really showed signs of rosacea!!
In addition you are really dark complexioned so these things are much harder to identify!!
I think the jury is still out, I know its not ideal, but it will be a wait and see game, yes you have some small spots, but its not accompanied by the angry redness so typical of rosacea.

I forgot to add the same proscript as everybody else, If my rosacea looked like your face I would be over the moon and a very happy guy, please do not get too worried at this time you have nothing to worry about!!!

Robert,

A new member has posted pictures that look like genuine Rosacea.

Look here: http://forum.rosaceagroup.org/viewtopic.php?t=3379

Now if you compare her skin to yours, you'll see why we all agree that you either don't have Rosacea or it is in its VERY VERY early stages.

Thanks,

Hello all,

Well now I'm more confused then ever.

I went to my normal doctor because I wanted him to confirm that I had Rosacea. I saw my doctor this morning and the first thing he said was seborrheic dermatitis. So now I have 2 different doctors with 2 different diagnoses and from my readings on the Internet the two are often mis-diagnosed for each other. I also read that the two are very similar to each other and very closely related to each other.

So now I’m not sure what to do? I don’t know if I should start with the metrogel or if I should start using the cream for seborrheic dermatitis.

I also asked the doctor if he was sure I didn’t have Rosacea and all he said was that it could be, but the more likely cause was seborrheic dermatitis because of the redness on the side of my nostrils.

I guess I’ll just have to treat both and wait and see if I have Rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis or both.

Robert --- which doctor do YOU trust more? You could always go for a 3rd opinion!

Re: topical meds...I'd think it wise to only try one at a time for a couple of weeks and keep a diary of what happens. Then switch and try the other. That way if one of the topicals is irritating and/or helping you'll know which one!

Again must emphasize...your skin looks incredibly good and even with my magnifying glass  (ha!) I can't see any redness like what you normally see with these diseases~

I definitely recommend you not to trust any of them. You skin really looks fine. I dont think seeing a 3rd derm will make you any better.

I have permanently red cheeks caused by bblushing and flushing since my childhood. I am 22 now. I have seen a derm who said I didnt have rosacea because my vessels arent dilated enough to be considered as rosacea. All the triggers can make me flush immdiately. She is a derm that is specialised on lasers, harvard graduate and dr bitter trained. She said my vessels are little so that they cant absorb te laser energy.

Well, I dont trust her. I believe that when I am flushed prior the treatment, my vessels will be fine to absorb the energy. Well, of course my vessels arent dilated fully all the time and I was calm when I went to her office. She was unable to recognise the seb derm either.

She recomended me to see another doctor, Cardiologist who will prescribe me medication that will take away the redness forever. What he prescribed me was propronalol and clonidine....... How are they supposed to take away the redness cause by continuous damage on my vessels for years!!!!!!!!!

Hello all,

Thank you, to all of you that stated my skin looks well and you don’t see any signs of Rosacea. Now if only the two doctors I visited would of said the same. Some of you also stated that I maybe in the very early stages of Rosacea and I think I very well could be. I have taken some more pictures today because I seem to be redder today for some reason. I hope there pictures show better.

From these new pictures do you see signs of Rosacea as one doctor said?
Do you see signs of Seborrheic Dermatitis as another doctor said?
Or do you see no signs of either?

Also if I am in the very early stages of Rosacea, what do you recommend I do for treatment and skin care in an attempt to try to slow down and manage Rosacea?

Thanks,

Robert
