I am a fifty year old woman and have had rosacea for a number of years and was going to my derm over 3 years ago. Had some papules and also red flush, she rx'd antibiotics for 3 months but I stopped due to yeast infecitons.
She also rx'd some topicals. Used them for a while, then stopped. Everything seemed to be pretty well managed and didn't have alot of flushing or papules.

Fast forward: 3+ years later, Capillaries on cheeks, blotchiness, and flushed. I have had a few stressful years and have been putting off going to Dr. Went today, she rx'd Finacea topical gel (2x a day ) and Metrogel 1% (1x a day) to see which I like better.

My question is she wants to do some sort of needle, burning of my capillaries to get rid of them. She says she can do this in the office.
What is this and is this a recommended proceedure? I have intermittant red surface capillaries on my cheeks and some around my nose.

WHat is this proceedure called? and has anyone had good luck with it?

THanks,
CHeryl

Cheryl,
You should have your physician explain everything to you until you are satisfied. I am not a physician. You might want to ask this question to Dr. Crouch in the IPL, Laser section of this forum who is the only doctor posting in this forum at this time. Cosmetic dermatologists are using all sorts of light therapy to remove facial problems and there is no doubt many other treatments to do this. Keep asking questions.

I just called the Dr.s office today and found out that the procedure is called: ‘hyfrecation’

The person/receptionist who answered the phone, was not very friendly or forthcoming w/ info. WHen I asked how to spell it she was a bit impatient and said she really didn't know and that the procedure was safe and basically I had nothing to worry about. I don't like dr.s offices who are patronizing and quick to dismiss my need for information so while I think this procedure could be a good one for my capillaries on my face, I will be getting a 2nd opinion...

Anyone ever have HYFRECATION done?
Please let me know, it involves using a needle w/ electric current to burn the tiny capillaries which then collapse and are absorbed into the body.
thanks
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

After reading your post I googled Hyfrecation to find out more about it. I am wondering why your derm would use this instead of zapping your spots with a laser. I wonder if it is more permanent.

I do agree that you should get a second opinion. Hopefully you can find somewhere that has nicer people.

Let us know what you end up doing.

- I had a Derm a few years ago who used that, I passed on it, -- He said an IPL or Laser was too expensive for him to buy at that time.
