Has anyone considered this as causal to the 'butterfly flushing'rather than rosacea

Yeah. It was one of the first things I ruled out. If you get a blood test--god, it's been a few years--I think it's an ANA test? A proper blood test should rule out any sun allergies or other diseases/disorders.

I believe Lupus has many other serious symptoms that you would have noticed. Is it not associated with heart iregularites aswell?

welliveactually just been to doc with loads of syptoms, inc, neurological ones, enlarger spleen aparentyl, fatigue, aching everywhere, anyway basically a whole load od symtoms that match lupus. Anyways photosensitivity and the butterfly affect are also on the list and burning sensations on the face. Made me think as to whether its not rosacea rather lupus

I know lupus can be hard to diagnose, and yes an ANA test can be used, but according to my doctor (I had the test done as I was also somewhat red on my arms) a positive does not mean you do have lupus, but that you might. It is just a simple blood test.

Even if you have a positive ANA test it could be because of several different diseases or certain medications will cause a positive ANA test, the rheumatologist I went to said that about 98% of patients with lupus will test positive but only about 5% will actually have a serious disease, and one of them is lupus. A manifestation of lupus strictly on the cheeks with no other symptoms is not very common, this is what I was told be the doctor.

I was first diagnosed with MS, put on high-dose (60mg) steriods, then had the MRI so they told me I did not have that but maybe lupus. I'm still tapering off the steroids. I have numbness in peripherals, pins and needles and tingling sensations and neural burning all over my body. I was in agony sometimes before I started Lyrica; it comes and goes. Extreme neurological hypersensitivity is what my neurologist said but she is researching a connection with this and rosacea after I told her about posts I'd seen on the rosacea boards describing these symptoms.
