Hi i am new to this board. I have been suffering with bad dry eye for 11 months now. i have noticed recently that i have rosesea although mild at the moment, i am 20.
Can you have occular rosecea if your eyes are not red? Mine are dry, sting, stuck together in the morning. I had bleptherits, eye lashes were failing out- has calmed down now. I have been to 3 eye doctors in the UK, all say my eyes look normal. i think i have an evaporative dry eye mainly.
Does this sound like i may have occular rosecea? This may be the underlying problem of the dry problem.
does anyone have routines or treatments that have worked for occular roserea?
thanks sara

Hi Sara,
this sounds exactly like ocular rosacea to me. The most important thing is daily hygeine. You need to wash the eyelids and especially around the base of the eyelashes morning and night. There is a product called LidCare that works well, and comes with soft lint-free cotton pads to wipe with. Otherwise use diluted baby shampoo or diluted tea tree oil shampoo with cotton pads or Q-tips. Some people also find warm compresses useful for a few minutes before each wash to make the secretions a little less viscous.
The problem is that the lipids secreted by the glands at the base of the eyelashes are too viscous and become waxy. This means they don't do a very good job lubricating the eye (hence the dry eyes) and also become blocked in the glands, making good food for bacteria to thrive on (hence the blepharitis).
What worked for me was switching to a mildly alkaline diet. You can read more here: http://forum.rosaceagroup.org/viewtopic.php?t=1830.
Good luck!

Hiya thanks for the reply.
I have been addressing the dry eye thing, didnt think it was related because, the rocerea is mild and has only started bothering me abit, from the shower, and exercise (today) recently.
The thing ive been confused about with my eyes is that, with what you described as MGD, i dont have any signs of it my eye doctor said i dont hasve MGD. The M glands getting bloked, is this the main cause of occular rosacea? associated with rosacea. because i dont have any signs of this.
recently my eyes have been feeling abit better, i think its the gamma linceed oil (EPO) amongst other supplements. I have been taking in last few months.
As my rosacea problem is mild at the moment is there anything i can do to prevent it from worsening?Like cream etc. i know about avoiding certain foods. I know from my eyes which ive been going through hell with. If id known about omega 3s i mite of prevented it. And should i have a dermatologist with a mild problem? i went to the doctor and he said 'what am i treating?' coz there was nothing obvious that he could see..
I havent read much into it at the moment unlike dry eyes, so you dont have to have red eyes to have occular rosacea?
thanks sara
