I wasn't sure where to post this so thought it best to do so here as it is more frivolous in nature, rather than educational........although it does give us a great insight into the ludicrous prices that women and men pay for skincare. I guess in some ways, I am trying to show how inexpensive the Neocutis cream is compared to the following, especially since the Neocutis cream is more medical in nature and hence in my opinion, more advanced. I can see how the Neocutis cream justifies itself but the list below is beyond ridiculous.

I have a girlfriend who spends an enormous amount of money on a monthly basis, ignited by the slick, glitzy ad campaigns that promise the fountain of eternal youth in a jar. I occasionally work in a looks obsessed industry and I am always shocked at the lengths people will go to and the money spent on achieving 'youth' and 'beauty'. These marketing people certainly know how to seduce their consumers. Usually with promises that fail to deliver from what I have been told.

Here is a small insight into what women and men are spending big on. Ask yourself, is it ever worth spending your months rent or whatever on a skincare product? Apparently so according to cosmetics companies, which are launching an ever increasing amount of exorbitantly priced lotions a day. And it seems that the general population are prepared to incur their accountant's wrath, for the possibility of younger looking skin.

Below are some products just launched and a small description given by the company. The dollar amounts are in Australian dollars but if you are really interested, you can convert to your own currency at www.xe.com

1) Yves Saint Laurent Temps Majeur Serum - $520 - Contains white peony extract and luxurious pearl proteins for a lustrous, smooth and supple complexion.

2) N.V Perricone M.D Neuropeptide Facial Conformer - $900- Uses complex amino acids to restore radiance and moisture in dehydrated skin, preventing premature ageing.

3) Creme De La Mer The Essence - $3500- It takes between three to four months to make one batch of this nutrient rich serum. Kelp and sea parsley rejuvenate the skin, promising youthful, dewy looks. As global supplies of this miracle elixir are limited, it is currently available by invitation only.

4) Shiseido Future Solution Total Revitalizing Cream - $402 - Derived from sea algae, this aims to minimise wrinkles and hydrates skin- leaving it velvety soft and luminous.

5) Re Vive Arrete Booster De Nuit - $495 - Containing Vitamin C, this potent night cream works wonders on blotchy and sun damaged complexions.

6) Bergman Supreme Cream - $850 - Fight fine lines with a special blend of beta-glucans (complex sugar molecules) and vitamins, clinically proven to stimulate cell rejuvenation.

7) La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream - from $560 - The star ingredient in this decadent cult product is beluga extract, which is feted for it's nourishing and moisturising properties.

8) Pevonia Myoxy-Caviar Timeless Repair Cream - $304.50 - Real caviar, pearl powder extract and a botanical ingredient called Escutox (said to mimic botox) are combined in this formula to relax and smooth the skin's cellular structure.

9) Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Re-Creation Day Creme and Re-Creation Night Creme - $1320 for the set - Contains ingredients harvested from a Hawaiian underwater grotto and minerals from the islands of Okinawa, Japan. These creams work around the clock to moisturise and combat lines.

So there is a glimpse at the enormously lucrative skincare industry, alive, thriving and ever growing. Suddenly my Neocutis cream seems like a steal at $130. I had to stop myself laughing at the descriptions........Hawaiian underwater grotto......... . I can justify money spent on my rosacea but not for beauty's sake.

Bellamermaid , on one hand i agree , but on the other manufacturers/marketers of products like that focus on the same group of people that your common papparazzi , there are $2000 hair cuts for jennifer lopez etc. etc ,its that ages old "if you build it they will come"
strategy for people with lots of spare change.
i think that $130 for such a small tube of neocutis is a lot of money for people who just want to look NORMAL (not glitzy) but i also think that if it works its worth EVERY penny
my two cents :)
mermaid i love your posts
