I have been searching for answers for a while and have almost come to terms that I just might not find any. But I will keep trying as I know someone has to know what is going on with my flushing problem. So here goes again.
I am a 25 year old Caucasian male who began flushing predominantly on my upper chest and neck about 7 months ago. I went immediatly to see both Derms in my area and both said it was due to too much exposure to the sun and that I would have to live with it. This made no sense to me as I grew up in Vancouver BC, Canada where sun is something seldomly seen. The flushing, which was daily then began to spread to my ears and cheeks, but upper cheeks, close to my eyes, and always comes up blotchy and blood red, sometimes even purple. There are no pimples present nor postules or anyother Rosacea signs. Just the flushing and perminant redness on my face where the flushing occurs. This flushing began when I stopped taking painkillers (tylenol with codeine) that I was taking for 4-5 years. And also, at the time the flushing started, due to the continual use of drysol for my Hyperhydrosis of my armpits, I completely stopped sweating, which I have done so extensively for a very long time.
My theory is that because I moved to an extremely dry climate and I took away my bodies ability to release heat via sweating, My chest, neck, ears and face instead flush to release this heat. Does this make sense?
The second thing is that I had blood tests done lately and the enzyme levels in my liver were "out of wack" and was told that they have been for awhile. Could this bring localized daily flushes to these areas?
The thing I hate the most is not having any answers to this problem, and the simple fact that it hurts like heck everytime the flushing comes. I know that genetics come around when you turn 25, but nobody else in my family has this problem! Currently I've been using Clonidine and Linda Sy's Zinco, to not much avale. I bought a humidifier that seems to tone the flushes down quite a bit and I actually went one night without a major flush, which was the first time in 7 months.
Any input professionally or personally would help a great deal and aid in my search to find out what the heck is happening. BTW, the trigger thing is the same as everyone else (hot showers, hot and spicy food especially) but even if I avoid these triggers, it still happens everyday!
Thanks
Dustin
