When you consider that this forum was started in June of this year and the number of members as of this date is 567 registered users and a total of 11163 articles these are some incredible figures for such a small group. The popularity of the php forum over the yahoo style proves the superiority of this method. I thought you might enjoy some of the highlights of the past months which brings out some interesting points.

The most popular forum is the GENERAL ROSACEA QUESTIONS with over 3000 posts. The second most popular forum is the "Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser" with 1797 posts while the "Prescription medications" comes in a close third with 1629 posts as of this date.

What is the most popular thread in all this? Drum roll.............................................. .................................................. ..................

Did you notice that two of the top five subjects that interested rosaceans were about Accutane?

You really have to give a special award to those busy Swedes who are posting like crazy in one forum! Wonder what they are talking about? Any translators?

When you look at these stats and notice what is popular among rosaceans you get some interesting views from those of us who are in the rosacea trenches.

Here is the breakdown of the most popular posts/views:

In March 2006 the Rosacea Forum has reached over 800 members. To put this in perspective comparing this forum to the world's largest rosacea support group, Pascoe's r-s yahoo group, look at the total number of posts since June 2005 as of this date March 10, 2006:

19833 articles

Compare that to 6745 posts at Pascoe's r-s during the same period and Pascoe's group has 6574 members!

The Rosacea Forum has an amazing number of articles for such a small group and no doubt it is due to the php format and how this group is run.

This ROCKS!!!

(And wow! I didn't know my little journal had gotten so many views. Very cool! Just wish I had more to update with right now. I'm just in Status Quo, which is a fine place for right now!)

Hello Brady

Like many others I belong to this group and also David's Yahoo Forum and to be honest I am not really concerned who has the most members or which one supplies the most posts or articles because it is not a competition. If I really wanted to be pedantic I could argue on this Forum nearly 300 members have never posted, some people are listed more than once and many others have left but they are still displayed as members. At the end of the day this isn't important because it is the quality of the posts and subjects raised rather than volume of them which go to make up a successful support group. I think sometimes we tend to forget that both Forums are here as support groups and by helping others from our own experiences we can go a long way to enabling them to fight this condition and make their lives more tolerable. To push this one step forward maybe eventually the efforts of the members of all the groups will contribute to a cure or better treatments being available for rosacea in the near future.

Like David, Warren has done a fantastic job with this Forum in a short time and very often in difficult circumstances, especially since events earlier this year. I think they should both be congratulated on the job they do, which as you know is usually thankless and long may they carry on the good work. The same praise should also be given to all the moderators as again that is another thankless role. Who knows perhaps one day both groups can be merged into one and have an even bigger influence on the rosacea world and future research into the condition which ruins many lives.

Interesting from the numbers you give that a combined membership would be around 7,500 which is very similar to the membership Mr Nase claimed to have for his new Forum ? Mmmmm hardly believable but then he has be known to be prone to exaggeration.

Regards

Peter

Howdy Peter!

I don't think that Brady was making a comparison as to who's site was better. I more read it that he was saying how well this place has been as far as gathering information. We've seen how well David's site has done, and it's great that now there are TWO sites that are doing it all!

At least, that's how I interprested it. :-)

The stats make for interesting reading to see what topics are most talked about. As far as competition between the groups, I see no point. I am a member of this Forum and also of the Yahoo Rosacea Support Group. Why? To find information about Rosacea. Each has its own style and 'charm' and I get a lot from both in a different way.

But as that seems unlikely, I will acknowledge that both a great boards full of wonderful individals!

LOL Thanks BB! It's amazing what they can do with makeup and photo 'softening'! I paid a fortune to have a 'glam' shot done! The pic was taken in November 2004 before my Rosacea kicked in big time. They took over an hour to put the makeup on, the photographer wasn't happy with the redness still coming through, so he rang head office to ask for advice. A whole new lot of darker makeup plastered on my face and that was the result. I wanted one last decent photo of me before the Rosacea got worse. Believe it or not, I was still pretty much in denial about having Rosacea back then but I knew it was getting worse. Stupid me! I should have done something about it back then! Ah well, at least I am now and things are going pretty well. Touch wood!

I think the Forum and the RSG have something different to offer and that's why I like to be a part of both groups. It's good to see people sharing information with links posted between the groups. Sometimes I notice something talked about in one group and think it is worth sharing with the other. Hey, the more informed we are, the better!

Hello Kelli

How are you ?

Sure I don't think for one minute that's what Brady was intending to convey but it could easily get misinterpreted and come across as if there was a competition taking place, so that is why I posted.

Both Forums have their own unique style and I suppose it is up to the individual which one they feel more comfortable with. As I said previously it is the quality of information that really matters and hopefully now we are seeing genuine articles from people who really care about each other. With rosacea we all know that there are never any guarantees which products, drugs or other treatments will work but at least with the support groups every sufferer has the opportunity to sift through the vast amount of information available, ask questions, take advice to decide what we will actually benefit them. Of course the other factor is that all of this service is actually free and just needs a bit of work and time from the person themselves.

I think it is important that people post with their experience of anything which they think has helped their condition regardless of how daft or silly it may appear to others. At the end of the day if their input helps just one person then it has been well worthwhile.

Now the climate has settled down on this Forum and there should be no fear of intimidation etc I would like to see some real professionals / experts from the rosacea and associated fields join and share their treatment methods, together their vision of the future for rosacea sufferers.

Best wishes

Peter

Ok, should we let them know now RedHotCanuck, or later? Ok, now then. You see folks, RHC and I are really from the Secret Rosacea Police (SRP), sent here to keeps tabs on anyone who posts!

Yes, I should have given it more thought before chosing a user ID! Sorry RHC!

Maybe we should start a scandal? The latest Rosacea headlines: RHC and RHO have long distance relationship! Our source (who prefers to remain anonymous) tells us that BB has put a spanner in the works!

Peter,
Pascoe's r-s has always been the 'gold standard' of rosacea groups and I am merely pointing out the number of posts, compared to the membership. As to quality, that is, as you so clearly pointed out, another discussion. Obviously the memberships of both groups are not exact due to inactive or duplicate memberships. People change email addresses like they do shirts. r-s seems to have recovered from its low dip in the number of posts in September last year (441) without much of a ripple. I follow r-s to see if anything new comes up there. Cross posting usually takes care of any news most of the time, but once in a while something actually new does come up. I have tried to consolidate all the rosacea groups into one private forum, but most rosaceans are not willing to reveal their true identity with a mailing address so it has not proved popular. The other problem is agreeing to what we should be united for. I thought rosacea research would be one uniting factor, but not everyone agrees about that subject either. I have pointed out over and over that the NRS is wanting but most rosaceans obviously are happy with the NRS. Only a handful want an alternative, but I am happy with what has been accomplished and I owe much of this success to Warren, who has tirelessly done much of the work. A few other rosaceans are now beginning to carry much of the load and have volunteered to help make the alternative a truly viable option and the list includes, Pam, Cathy, Valerie, Kelli, and Jenny. Volunteering has its good points and bad. All the rosacea support groups are volunteer and bringing them together is a great idea.

Hello Kelli

I am doing well myself thanks and hopefully rosacea will be a thing of the past soon (fingers crossed). Good to see you back on here again helping others by sharing your experiences and offering sensible advice.

Hello Brady

Well I think we have all agreed (in-between RHO's and RHC's romance :) ) that both Forums are doing a great job, so really it's just a question of whether an amalgamation is a good thing or even possible or whether we keep the status quo. I am all for one combined group using the type of format here but I am not sure whether the benefits would outweigh the potential disadvantages ? Interested to see what others think.
