Glendale Communications Group, Inc. - $365,398

I would make some comments on the expense for fundraising, planning and budgeting, Conferences, conventions, and meetings, and broadcast production but I think you can see the figures and do your own thinking.

Glendale Communications, Inc is owned by Sam Huff, President of the NRS.

However, I can't help making this comment about the grant program expense of $19,961 which I wonder did what?

You can receive your own copy of the NRS Form 990 for 2004 by requesting a copy which is provided free.

Marc,
I am happy you see that this may be a conflict of interest. Whether it is illegal is determined in a court of law.

Now, think about all those prestigious physicians who have joined Sam Huff's medical advisory board. Think about how the RRF joined the NRS.

Do the majority of rosaceans care about any of this? What are you going to do about it? I have done something about it. And you can too, join the RRDi >

I think it's hilarious that we can all spot Marc a million miles away. Doesn't matter what the screen name is, we all know when it's him...

This is an excellent example for all small business owners of how to make use of your tax dollar.

Wow Brady. Your right, nothing needs to be said it speaks for itself.

However, I did find out quite a bit of information on non-profits from the Federal Trade Commission and State Attorney General's office (the BBB does not get involved in this).

Non-profits can get away with a lot. Very few things can be deemed illegal. Just a couple incidentals:

1. Keeping up endorsements against ones will is illegal -- so if they have people listed up their that are no longer on the Society, then that is illegal and punishable by fines/imprisionment. The same day someone resigns they must be taken down.

2. Accepting donations with no "Active" intent on fullfilling your stated goals. For instance, if your one and only goal is to accept money to fund research and you dont accept grants handed to you -- thats not legal.

But other than that, they have a lot of wiggle room sad to say.

Was this taken from the NRS Grant Donation Portion only or did they lump it into the NRS in a broad sweep?

One can get fairly cynical just thinking about it.

I sit on the board of a charitable foundation for the
company I work for. We help needy children and
their families who fall through the cracks and don't
collect assistance elsewhere. 100% of what we collect
goes to our donees. We have zero overhead. If we
have an event that requires expenditures, we take it
out of our own pockets. We have a spotless 25 year record
in the community.

And last year, we awarded a scholarship to a needy
student and the IRS jumped all over us wanting to
make sure none of our board members were affiliated
with the college in question. Give me a break. And
the NRS gets away with what it does every day.

Sorry guys and ladies. I think I just woke up in a mood.
Thanks for letting me vent!

Beth

I don't understand your question. I can guess you are asking where I got this information? I got it from the hard copy of the 2004 Form 990 the NRS sent to the IRS. You can get your own copy by requesting it from the NRS. I do know that if they don't send you a copy within thirty days that they may be in violation of the law which requires them to provide copies from any who request one.

In Part II, Statement of Functional Expenses
Line 22 - Grants - $85,307

Line 22 is the expense of the rosacea research grants which the MAB recommended and the NRS board approved.

Line 43 - Other Expenses
see statement 3
$19,961 of the $267,820 was used for the grant program. In other words, almost $20K was used to distribute the $85K for rosacea research. What this entailed is not explained, but basically the NRS spent more than the RRF received in total donations just on whatever it takes to distribute the research grants in 2004. Can you imagine what they spent the money on to distribute these rosacea research grants in 2004? Wouldn't it be informative to have a breakdown of this expense?

I still like the one, 'Fundraising - $38,354' which must have been a lot of fun raising that money. It takes a lot of imagination to figure what they spent that money on to raise more money.

And the kicker is, that Sam, Mary, Datha, and three other board members according to the Form 990 received no salary for serving on the board of directors for the NRS. Absolutely no salary or compensation. Amazing isn't it?
