Hi Everyone,
I read an ad in Alternative Medicine. This Tetrasil multi-purpose topical ointment contains silver.
Is silver that good for skin problems? Any harm? I copy a part from their web site. Has anyone
tried this ointment? Please share your experiences of non-prescription for seborrheic dermatitis.
Thank you
Happy Columbus Day in US, Happy Thanksgiving in Canada, Happy
Day in Australia, New Zealand and all other countries!

Camomile tea bags helped my itching head--finally relief!
I got an idea after I finished my nightly cup of camomile tea. Instead
of tossing the bags I squeezed some of the tea out of them and put them
on my head in the itchy spot. I then removed them after about 30
minutes. When I woke up this morning the ictching was greatly subsided
and the scabbiness or ugh--crust LOL cradle cap was gone.

A good cleanser that clears the pores and flakes is an excellent start. Some can handle the 1% salicylic cleansers.
The gentle zinc or ketoconazole shampoos placed lightly against the face after fulll sudsing in hari (to evenly disperse medication) and then leaving on for at least 60 seconds (preferably 180 seconds) also helps many if they can tolerate it.
I think there is a new zinc + low percentage salicylic acid with tons of moisturizers out there by American Crew or another major brand like Dematologica.

how should the epidermis protect blood vessels against salicylic acid?

Thanks very much for your interesting post Dr. Nase! You always try
to help us. I will get this zinc + low percentage salicylic acid cleanser.
Sebcur shampoo contains salicylic 4% w/w, not sure if it is too high
or more effective.

YVonne,
Your welcome.
By low percentage, I mean 0.5% to 1.0%. Some OTC psoriasis topicals and OTC anti-dandruff shampoo's have this sort of combo. Ill keep an eye out next time for specific brand names.

I use ZNP bar and I like it. I used it for my scalp first, then I use it for my face and whole body as a shower bar. Other medicated shampoos including Sebcur and Loprox made my hair dry as the straw and look like a crazy professor  . Head & Shoulders has similar ingredients but ZNP is more gentle to the hair, especially to the face. It contains Zinc Pyrithione.
You all have a very nice weekend.

That's not too bad  because it works for one doesn't mean it works for all. Which shampoo works best for you Jordan?

STOP USING soaps and what not on your face. I never found cleansers or soaps to be of any use. They would only make the skin produce more sebum and acne and consequently worsen seborrheic dermatitis.
I have tried many topicals, the last one I used was the DRL from Cutanix. I now use that only in the evening combined with the Calm Cool and Corrected from www.dermadoctor.com
In the morning and other times in the day, after showering, I use the Calm Cool and Corrected.
It is superior to the Cutanix in that it has a powerful anti sebum/acne effect as well. Cutanix address purely inflammation, and it leaves the skin with a oily shine. Not so the CCC.
I think people should try it. I have been recommending it here on this board, but I dont no one has taken notice.

I think the key to treating Seb Derm is to cycle the types of lotions used. One week use zinc, another salicylic acid, another tea tree etc. Using them for a prolonged period or all at the same time is likely to cause the fungus to become immune to them.
All supposed Seb Derm topical treatments have worked for me initially, providing me with total clearing, then after 10-20 days my Seb Derm returns. All the above treatments do not work for me any more even ACV.

I agree. Just like using shampoos, we have to change it after a few weeks.
We need to have 3 or 4 weapons in hand

I also have used the ZNP bar and it made my face break out. But it was good for the seb derm. That is what is so frustrating. If you find something that is good for the rosacea then it is bad for the seb derm and vice versa.

Hi Buster,
I browsed the site and learned that this Calm Cool and Corrected is for rosacea. Does it help your rosacea or both rosacea and seb derm? Does it eliminate the redness and bumps aound the sides of the nose and along the eyebrows?
Before trying CCC or Neem or something new, I am going to put corn starch on my face tonight as I heard that this kitchen stuff works well for seb derm.
Best wishes, Winnie

Sometimes it is very confusing. Two doctors said what I have is rosacea, another two said it is common acne, a few months ago a derm said I have seb derm. It seems I don't have rosacea since ZNP bar did not make my face break out.
Talking about cleanser, I've brought the small Proterra marine cleansing bar with sea kelp home (from the hotel) and I must say this is the best cleansing bar I've ever used. I will go to the store during the weekend see if I can get more Proterra sea kelp products.

I was reacently introduced to a soap called "facedoctor", has worked wonders for me used with a French cold weather redness reducing cream, it has a slight green tint to reduce redness, aloa vera. With this and avoiding chocolate, spicy food, alcohol, sunshine, hot drinks and squeesing SP? the eruptions, I am virtually clear, Woopy.

Hi rodger,
Glad that you have found something working great for you. Does the facedoctor make the face too dry?
Some people say sunshine is good for seb derm but bad for rosacea. It seems sunshine not a trigger for me.
I don't eat spicy food, but like to bite dark cholcolate sometimes
Best wishes, Winnie

Hi group,
I have tried the Eucerin Redness Relief sample. The Soothing Cleanser and the Soothing Night Creme are fine, it contains only a very little bit in the tiny mini sample, of course can't tell the actual result. The Daily Prefecting Lotion SPF 15 and Tone Perfecting Creme are not moisturized enough for me, they could not be well-absorbed into the sides of my nose, therefore I washed it off and could not use it.
Just a tiny mini report  Hope all of you are doing fine. Winnie, the guinea-pig

Hi Winnie,
I find as do you that Pau Darco is good. I find it has reduced my sebum output.
As for the CCCm it is a very good cream, it does not leave the skin oily at all, and I find it reduces sebum output over time. It also helps reduce acne/bumps. I do not have rosacea, but I am sure you can not go wrong ordering the CCC.
Best wishes,
Mads

I am always curious about Chinese herbs and finally plunge into it. Yesterday I started to drink the herbal tea (twice per day), today my face is less oily. The Chinese doctor can speak English, she said the skin disorder is from "heat" and toxin. The herbal tea contains 6 herbs, simmering for more than half an hour. I had to buy a special pot for making this tea. Had no experience to make and drink this kind of tea before, the herbal smell is very strong, it is not that bitter, just taste too strange to me :-) My brother has seb derm for many years and he gets good result with Chinese herbs, so I give it a try. It is a three months
treatment. If it doesn't work, she said topical can be added in March.

Hi group,
Zinc Gluconate somewhat helps my skin but not as good as Pau D'arco. So far Pau D'arco is the best thing that works for my seb derm. Next week I will start to try Neem capsules see how it works, if the result not so good then I'll try topical CCC and back to Pau D'arco routine.
Hereafter I will post to this sub-forum instead of posting it on "S D is difficult to deal with". I lost my interests in prescribed medicine since I found that Pau D'arco working better than Elidel and lots of prescriptions that I used. I might get back to "S D is difficult to deal with" only if I want to take prescription again. Both are seb derm sub-forums, I don't need to post it "here, there and everywhere" Last night I dressed like the Beatles and sang this song on a stage, the wig made me sneezing, haha.
Best wishes, Winnie

Hi Everyone,
I've started to apply Dermalogica Medicated Clearing Gel once per day. According to the directions: "At night, apply a thin layer to cleansed face and let absorb. In the morning, wash off with recommended Dermalogica cleanser." I bought it from a skin clinic and I did not buy the Dermalogica
cleanser as I still have two full bottles of other cleanser. I've found this gel soothing without harsh drying effects. My face is less oily. It helps pimples but not that overnight effectiveness, need to wait for 5 to 7 days. It does not reduce the redness yet, but I will apply it twice per day and see if it works better.
Hope you all are well and doing fine.

Hi group,
I have taken Neem capsules three times a day. It works as good as Pau D'Arco. It eliminates sebum oilness. The sides of my nose is not so red, but of course unable to get rid of the redness yet. No side-effects so far. Therefore it worths to try.
December is my busiest month of the year, I work like hell  Are you ready for Christmas and the New Year? Winnie

really alters her sebaceous glands, this laser makes her looking

though, $3500 for 4 treatments.

Besides taking Neem capsules, I am using a pore clearing mask. It can really cleanse pores. Treat seb derm from the root, this mask is a must have. Seems like my seb derm is starting to get it under control. This is a very merry X'mas

I have taken Traditional Chinese Medicine for more than one month, it eliminates pimples but no help to the seb derm. I think I will quit it after February. The consultation fee is not high but the herbs are quite costly, one pack for one day only. Insurance not covered, of course. My hope is on Sebazzole now.
A wonderful 2006 to you all!

Hi,
You have some products for acne and rosacea. You should bring in
something for seborrheic dermatitis, it's a bigger market than
rosacea.
I saw an old post in the rosacea support group, said we can get
one free jar of the z cream from your shopping site, is it right?
Thanks,
Yvonne
