Hi folks,

I sense that many rosaceans experience worsening of seb derm on antibiotics, probably its hard to tell which antibiotics are the safest, but still I sense that you can make some general suggestions
What about
1) short courses of oral metronidazole (for severe rosaceans only)
2) doxycycline hyclate, 20-40 mg
3) clarithromycin pulse dosing
4) low dose roxiethromycin (perhaps not as erythromycin seems to be similar to roxi, and erythromycin is quite bad for seb derm)

Its quite essential this, particularly for rosaceans with seb derm undergoing laser treatments which should know well which antibiotics are most effective during laser treatments. Perhaps periostat is a bad choice as itraconazole might be just as powerful in anti-inflammatory strength

Some people said Minocycline doesn't make the seb derm worse.

I took a course of tetracyclin back in 1997 or so, and it made my seb derm a lot worse.

The reason antibiotics are making your seb derm worse is because antiobiotics increase yeast overgrowth. As you all probably know, yeast is the main reason for seb derm. More specifically, the yeast Pitysporum Ovale, is the yeast that has abnormal activity on the skin surface causing seb derm. If you would like to read more about the connection between yeast overgrowth and antiobiotics, I would suggest reading: The Yeast Connection by William G. Crook.
