i just read this. simply amazing. of course they probably wont even attempt human testing for years. but the fact remains that there is reason to believe that in 20 years or so, we could be able to regenerate any new organ except the brain. skin problems = no problems. simply add the genome and grow entirely new skin from skratch!
if we can do to humans what they can already do to mice in terms of regeneration, then all these lasers, creams (yes, even sansrosa's) would seem a rediculous waste of time. all organ damage (with the exception of the brain) will be 100% treatable by virtue of regrowth.
here is one of the many news sources - i recommend you google the scientists name like i did and find out other backround info and alternative news reports:

PS. Dr. nase, I would be interested in hearing your criticisms and comments about human organ regeneration.

i'm the original poster. i forwarded a 4 year old article on regeneration by accident. it is the new developments that represent the breakthrough material. and these new developments have just been released. here they are and sorry about the slip:

if thats true. it could be a breakthrough in so many human malities from hairloss to limb loss. I dont know how true or reproducable such an idea is in humans. Nice article still though.

i respect your caution. i think scepticism is warranted in a case like this because i have been checking around at some major news sources, and they have yet to comment on the issue. if i cant find anything from the new york times on the issue by the end of the week, then im going to delete my post as it would seem resonable to regard it as sci-fi at that point.

OK. so ive done my homework and the science behind this rejeneration stuff looks legitamate. the head scientist mentioned above (who has good credentials - checked that out) is going to formally present their research results (which they have not done yet) at the much anticipated SENS conference which is set to take place at cambridge in a few days. after which we will be hearing a lot more about this rejuvination business from the press.
at this point, i really dont think that this group of scientists are fabricating truths. but who knows. i got really excited about cold fusion a decade ago and that proved to be bad science even though it had a prestigious scientist (who incidentally still claims that cold fusion is reproducable in his lab) backing the hype. so ive been wrong before.

Thanks for the post. Very interesting. I actually like the side article on "helper" genes regenerating damaged ear skin.
The heart cells are tricky because they are all pace maker cells and are much different than any other cells in the body. Hard to make out and extrapolate it to skin tissue.
If you want to do some really interesting reading in the similar thread, look at regenerating skin in burn victims.
