Hi, could anybody tell me if they have had any results with accutane on their seb derm? Is it a good way to go?

Hey!
I had very good results a few years back when my "only" problem was seb derm and oily skin. Go for it! But -- make sure you take a small dose, the smallest possible! A too high dose can thin your skin and make other problems join your seb derm.

Yeah I took 10mg every other day for about 5 or 6 months. Really improved my condition within about 1.5 - weeks. I have seb derm and rosacea. Be wary of accutane though and don't take a high dose.

I would suggest you take 10 mg every three days, and if you can get your hand on accutane, maybe split open the capsules and mix with oil to reduce the dosages. There are posts about this elsewhere on this forum.
My question is this: Does accutane work well if the diet is not very strict? How much does diet play a part?

I believe we can cure our rosacea by diet, however, while you are taking accutane I don't think diet plays a big role. You will still see improvement, as I did, while doing the SAD diet. (Standard American Diet)

It has worked very well for me. Totally eliminated my seb-derm.
If your MD wont prescribe it, order some online. Life is too short to rely on others. :?

Hi Cantfakereality and everyone here,
How long does it take to get the totally eliminated result? Are you still taking it after your seb derm cleared up? Which is the reliable web site to order Accutane without the prescription? I had thought about ordering it online but not sure if they were selling some false drugs, how could they get Accutane for us without the prescription?
Thank you
Yvonne

Thanks very much Jordan. I just browsed that site, they have Isotretinoin Isotrex 0.05% Gel 30g. If this is Accutane in a gel form, then it might be better to apply this gel on the face instead of taking the pills into the mouth.

I wasn't aware that Accutane came in a gel form. It's not just regular old tretinoin, is it?

Yes Strive/Yvonne, the brand name is 'Retin-A' of the TRETINOIN cream and ISOTRETINOIN of the oral tablets.

Jordan,
So then, Yvonne would or would not want to get the gel she mentioned?
Sorry, I'm a little confused....

Sorry after re-reading it I'm not sure since it does say ISOtretinoin cream... I wonder what the iso prefix means exactly. I would do some research first.

Yvonne, the brand name of the isotretinoin (chemical name) capsules on the Masters Mktg. website is Roaccutane. Masters is reliable and their drugs are not fakes. They come in the original packaging, not stuck in a pill bottle with label.

irish, isotrex is an isotretinoin topical, I would not recommend anybody with rosacea to use this. I got rosacea from using this for acne on some skin which was in a bad shape after I reacted to topical clindamycin. Lessons learned: topicals are dangerous!

you can buy generic isotretinoin tabs in Denmark for $30 for 50 10 mg tabs. I pay $3 cause the government basically pays for all drugs taken above $200 per year. Its not a big deal here cause most drugs are generic as the Danish FDA imposes on pharmacies to hand out the cheapest brand (unlike in the States where you get the most expensive).

irish, isotrex is an isotretinoin topical, I would not recommend anybody with rosacea to use this. I did not recommend anybody use isotrex, did I? I used Retin-A years ago when I was in my 30's. Did not have rosacea at the time, or at least I wasn't aware of it. My skin reacted so badly that I hid in the house for 3 months and let my husband do all the shopping. The doctor told me to "fight through it" and I would be clear in the end, but I got the worst cystic acne of my life. My acne went back to usual after I quit taking it, so all I got was a few scars to show those 3 miserable months.
Fanta, what was your reaction to topical clindamycin? I took an oral climdamycin a couple of times and broke out in hives all over my body. It took 2 weeks of cortisone to stop it. That is the only drug I am allergic to. I would probably go into anaphylactic shock if I took it again considering how bad my allergy was. My face swelled up like a balloon.

I think I got oral clindamycin as 15 year old for some staph abscesses which I had removed thru a hospital stay. The when I used topical clindamycin last year I reacted to it, particularly in the eyes and side of nose, probably it triggered seb derm or contact allergy. I was so stupid to use it again cause it was effective against some abscesses on my nose. I reacted to it again, also I used isotrex at the same time - a few days later after all this irritation I got facial rosacea, a month later I got ocular rosacea. I also had been trying to squeeze out the abscess so my skin was really irritated and inhibited to heal with isotretinoin - so no wonder I got rosacea just like that. I had had a completely white face before this and never had any skin problems apart from the staph abscesses I caught in Florence. Florence, Italy is a very humid place indeed so I think it was the humidity that produced a staph infection. The abscesses could have been triggered by sun light and have been linked to rosacea, although I doubt it a bit. I have not one sun spot or wrinkle in my face or body cause I never stay in direct sun light (something you just dont do much if your from an Italian family)

Hi,
I'm currently taking 10mg Accutane every other day for severe SD. Symptoms include flaky red patches on sides of nose (oily) and in eyebrows, red scaling in beard, and crusts behind the ears and in ear canal. Also have mild rosacea (no p&p) but some underlying redness and flushing with large pores on nose.
Have taken accutane for a little over a week and have noticed the SD flaring even worse than before accutane. Red patches are more severe around sides of nose (although oil production seems down). Flushing is down (on a positive note).
Wondering if I can apply topicals (protopic) and continue to cleanse bothersome areas?
Also wondering if this is a common reaction and how long it may take to seen an improvement in the SD?
thanks.

Hi CM, my SD got worse initially as well -- took about 3 weeks for it to subside for me. Elidel helped with this a bit.

Thanks Ian! I'll wait a bit longer before a discontinue accutane.
If anyone is curious, I have experieinced almost no side effects on the 10mg every other day scheme. Slightly dry hair, but I'm still early in this routine.
